Actor Tiger Shroff, who is essaying a superhero in ‘A Flying Jatt’, says it was inspiring to watch Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish’ act, and the ‘Heropanti’ actor hopes he’s able to match up to that level.
“As I am essaying a superhero in ‘A Flying Jatt’, I hope that I could do justice to the role. Though I don’t even think about competing with Hrithik Roshan and what he did in ‘Krrish’, but I will not let down the makers of ‘A Flying Jatt’,” Tiger said here.
“It would be flattering if I could match up the level of Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik sir has given such a beautiful film… only watching it inspires me and somehow I hope to get there,” he added.
A die-hard fan of Hrithik, Tiger is a wonderful dancer and a fitness freak, much like his idol.
“Hrithik is my role model. I wanted to be a good dancer like Hrithik in my childhood. I used to watch all his films, and ‘Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai’ blew me away.
“Every night before going to bed, I watched his video, and in my mind I used to visualize that I was dancing in the video. Slowly, I learnt his body language… I’ve still not got that perfection, but I’m getting there,” said the son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff.
On the work front, the actor is currently shooting for his next film — Sabbir Khan’s ‘Baaghi’, in which he’s paired with Shraddha Kapoor.
An intense love story, ‘Baaghi’ will hit the big screens on April 29 next year.
Often garbage collectors fill the garbage collection vehicle with loads of waste and it falls on the roads which may cause health problems to citizens.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) might be aiming to make Mumbai a garbage free city but the manner in which waste is being picked up by garbage collectors raises questions about whether the civic body will achieve this objective. Often it has been observed that garbage collectors collect waste from the housing societies in an unhygienic manner. They fill the garbage collection vehicle with loads of waste and often it falls on the roads which may cause health problems to citizens. The foul smell emanating from the garbage van creates huge inconvenience to motorists who follow the vehicle.
Dr Deepak Chaturvedi said, “The senior BMC officials should intervene in this matter. They should ask the garbage collectors to properly dispose the waste and ensure that it doesn’t fall on roads. They should refrain from overloading the vehicle with too much waste.”
Abhay Deshmukh, a Kandivali resident said, “The garbage collectors don’t follow any hygiene norms while collecting waste. Citizens should also segregate dry waste from wet waste. However when the garbage collection vehicle arrive the workers often mixes both the waste and dumps it in the same vehicle. The BMC too should start and awareness campaign appealing people to segregate dry and wet waste.”
Of the 1,27,486 tonnes of waste generated daily in India in 2011-12, Mumbai alone accounted for 6.11 per cent. It is estimated that every resident in the metropolis generates about 630 grams of waste daily, a figure that is expected to touch 1 kg in the coming years.
Uday Singh, a Borivali resident said, “Actually it’s the responsibility of both BMC and citizens to make the city free of garbage. Citizens too should not litter on roads. The civic body should appoint an official to monitor the garbage collection work and take action against the erring waste collectors.”
Questions have been repeatedly raised over the quality of service provided by the contractors in collection and transportation of waste. Critics say while the BMC has an elaborate system in place for collection and transportation of waste, there are no real-time checks in place to see if the appointed contractors are following specifications. In a major health hazard, conservancy workers involved in collection, transportation and disposal continue to work without wearing the prescribed rubber gloves, face masks, reflector jackets and safety shoes.
At present, the BMC uses a logbook to track solid-waste management. The book contains details like the number of rounds made by a collection truck and its timings. However, the corporation has realised that the manual entry system is easily prone to manipulation.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had allocated Rs 8,839.5 crore for solid waste management in the last five years, of which Rs 683.56 crore was used for development work and at least over Rs 5,000 crore for sewage disposal. Despite this, the city ranked 140th in the country on the Swachh Bharat survey of clean cities.
Let it be plot or favoured by BJP whatsoever, but the fact is that one of the dreaded gangster is coming back in India and will spend his time in jail. He is scheduled to be extradited to India today or tomorrow from Indonesia. Ahead of his deportation, the underworld don’s ‘right-hand man’ Nilesh Dinkar Paradkar alias Shatlya was arrested by Mumbai police. Paradkar and another gangster Raghu Shetty, both associated with Rajan, had allegedly demanded Rs. 15 crore from a Bhandup-based Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) developer. In this connection, the Bhandup police arrested Shatlya. Both Shetty and Shatlya are wanted in connection with many extortion cases.
Flights were cancelled to and from Denpasar airport due to volcanic eruption at Mount Rinjani. An Indian team, which has been working with its Indonesian counterparts to take over Rajan’s custody, finalised everything covering the way for the gangster’s return to India. The decision comes after Denspar Immigration Chief along with the Jakarta Interpol questioned Rajan at the Bali Police Headquarters and a clearance for his deportation was issued. Devendra Fadnavis also gave statement to media that the mafia don will be brought to Mumbai. The CM further assured that security has been beefed up for Rajan’s arrival and he is likely to be kept in Anda Cell of Arthur road prison. Maharashtra is always over burdened with the heavy amount of expenses to secure the criminals and gangsters, from Abu Salem to Ajmal Kasab and now Chhota Rajan. Hundreds of crores are spend on them to protect them whereas farmers are committing suicide. State has many crucial issues to be addressed. Government seeks donations to do relief work but manages to spend on these gangsters. Irony is that BJP is taking extra care of this gangster who is called as ‘Hindu terrorist’ by so called media because he split from Dawood gang after the 1993 serial bomb blast.
Rajan had alleged that “some members” in the Mumbai Police have links with wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim. This is world known fact that each gangster let it be Rajan, Dawood or Gawli had their uniformed shooters in department and khadi ‘goons’ to protect them. Many times, nexus between the men in khaki and the Mumbai underworld had surfaced. However, Chhota Rajan’s allegation on police officers as he is Dawood’s counterpart is purely based on his insecurity and fear. From the late 90s, the methods adopted by ‘encounter specialists’ of the Mumbai police to eliminate gangsters is under scrutiny. These men were accused of carrying out fake encounters as agents of the underworld. Just three men, Pradeep Sharma, Daya Naik and Ravindra Angre have eliminated more than 240 encounters. Pradeep Sharma has a staggering total of a 104 encounters to his “credit”.
Daya Nayak, with 85 encounters under his belt, was arrested for underworld links and owning disproportionate assets. He was reinstated in 2010. Ravindra Angre, responsible for 52 encounters, was arrested for assaulting and trying to extort money from a local builder and has been granted bail.
Rajan is a close confidante-turned-rival of Dawood, the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case. He is one of the cruelest and insensitive criminal, I just don’t feel like believing the reports that the Chhota Rajan is fearing for his life and that is why he is eager to surrender. How a don who ordered killings of hundreds of people at his will and became the king of criminal’s empire is suddenly scared of death? If he had lived like a don then he should prefer and prepare himself to die like a don.
Rajan says all cases against him are false, but he is wanted in over 75 heinous crimes ranging from murder, extortion to smuggling and drug trafficking.
Rajan’s main areas of operation, according to information from intelligence reports and his arrested aides are printing counterfeit currency and drug trade. The Interpol listed him as a wanted man in 1995 for carrying out 17 murders. Rajan was believed to be operating in south East Asian countries and also believed to be passing information about Dawood’s involvement in the 1993 blasts to Indian intelligence agencies. Irony is that, world’s top intelligence, Interpol and Rajan’s information could not nab Dawood yet. Even, Osama Bin Laden was killed but Dawood was never ever caught or traced.
Government agencies might be taking all the credit for capturing Chhota Rajan, but if sources in Mumbai Police are to be believed, the infamous gangster was the architect of his own arrest. After more than two decades on the run from the authorities and his arch rival and former crime boss, Dawood Ibrahim, advancing age and the need to constantly look over his shoulder got to Rajan (55), and he decided to turn himself in.
At 55, age had started to catch up with the gangster, who is suffering from kidney-related issues, as well as problems with the bullet injury, he had received in an attack in 2000. The bigger problem though, was paranoia. Rajan’s aides Santosh Shetty, Anil Chandra and Bunty Pandey were all deported from various foreign countries. Rajan was a very vulnerable target living all alone. Dawood’s aide, Chhota Shakeel, even tried to kill him in Australia in July, but the Indian intelligence agencies intimated him about the attack after they learnt of it by tapping Shakeel’s phone. Let’s see, how the master mind gangster rides Indian media/ politics once he arrives here.
In what may further intensify Shiv Sena’s standoff with its ally, its chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said his party was ready to tread its own way in future if BJP insists on having its mayor in the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC).
Thackeray was speaking to reporters on sidelines of a meet at ‘Shiv Sena Bhawan’, primarily called to discuss its alliance strategy in KDMC.
Sena MPs, MLAs and party’s office bearers were present at the meeting chaired by the Sena chief.
“If the BJP wants to have its Mayor in the KDMC, it means that they are not interested in an alliance with us. If that is the case, we will tread our own way and they can theirs. People have voted us as the single largest party and I am thankful to them for doing so,” Thackeray said.
He was replying to Maharashtra BJP President Raosaheb Danve, who had in a press conference exuded confidence that his party will have a mayor in both, the KDMC and Kolhapur Municipal Corporation.
Shiv Sena had emerged as the single largest party in KDMC bagging 52 seats, but fell short of majority in the 122-member body.
The BJP improved its tally by winning 42 seats from the previous nine while Raj Thackeray-led MNS bagged nine seats.
Earlier in the day, the Sena in its editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Saamna’ had extended an olive branch to the BJP by saying whatever happens during polls is temporary and one should let bygones be bygones.
Responding to Thackeray’s comments, Danve said his party’s future alliance strategy will be decided by the core committee members and that the Sena can do what it wishes to.
“Our core committee will decide whether we have to ally with the BJP or with the MNS. The Sena can do what it wishes to,” Danve said.
Meanwhile, Thackeray also said the work done by party ministers and MLAs in the last one year was also discussed in the meet and added that MLAs have complaints of work not being done at the ground level.
“Diwali has arrived now but prices of pulses have still not gone down. We have given a letter to the (Maharashtra) Chief Minister (Devendra Fadnavis), conveying our apprehensions,” he said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Tuesday said that underworld don Chhota Rajan, who was nabbed at Bali airport on his arrival from Australia last month, will be brought to Mumbai.
“Chhota Rajan will be brought to Mumbai,” he said here but did not give further details.
He said that all security arrangements are in place for Rajan to be brought to the metropolis.
The CM also tweeted that Mumbai Police Commissioner Ahmed Javed will brief the media soon on the issue.
Mumbai Police Commissioner Ahmed Javed on Tuesday stressed that there is no question of staking claim over Chhota Rajan’s custody as “he will eventually come here”. Addressing a press conference, he said, “There is no question of staking claim. We will go by the rules and adequate security and precaution will be taken while taking his custody.”
Responding to Rajan’s allegation that some Mumbai policemen are linked with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Javed said, “I do not want to respond to an allegation made by a gangster.”
On October 25, Rajan was arrested in Bali on his arrival from Australia. On the context of whether he is afraid of returning to Mumbai, Rajan said, “The government can keep me anywhere in Delhi or Mumbai. But there should be no injustice done to me. All cases against me are false.”
On Sunday, a team of sleuths comprising officers from CBI, Mumbai and Delhi police, reached Bali to get Rajan’s custody with a dossier on Rajan and his involvement in various crimes in India.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Retd) (ACP) Shamsher Pathan on Tuesday downplayed underworld don Chhota Rajan’s claim that some Mumbai cops are linked to Dawood Ibrahim and said that there might be some conspiracy behind such an assertion.
“There seems to be a conspiracy in this statement by him. Maybe he doesn’t want to come to the Mumbai Police or he is being saved from the Mumbai Police,” he said.
Pathan said the government should not ponder much over his statement and hand him over to the Mumbai Police as most of his cases are registered with them.
“So if the case has to be probed properly, then a special team of honest officers from the Mumbai Police must be created. And I think High-court’s sitting judges must supervise this probe. So that the truth comes out,” he added.
Pathan further said that he suspected the involvement of various politicians and businessmen in compelling Rajan to make a statement against the Mumbai Police.
“He is being forced to say this just so that he is not handed over to the Mumbai Police. There may be involvement of some politicians and some businessmen who don’t want him to be handed over to the Mumbai Police. They may be scared that their names will come out in the open if Rajan goes to the Mumbai Police,” he said.
“Maybe they want to take him to Delhi and form a special team and achieve selective targets. Because I think that if he comes to Mumbai Police, he will be questioned closely and the truth would be gathered from him. Maybe he doesn’t want to spill out some beans. And now that he has defamed the police, he will not be spared,” he added.
Rajan, who was arrested in Bali, had earlier claimed that some Mumbai Police officials worked hand in hand with India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.
Three alleged members of Chhota Rajan gang were arrested by Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) from George Town area in Allahabad, an official spokesman said.
“Indresh Kumar Singh, Mohd Saleem alias Shekhu and Ramesh Kumar Bind were arrested from George Town area last evening and fire-arms along with a jeep and motorcycle were seized from them,” he said.
The spokesman said that on interrogation the arrested criminals revealed that they worked for Azad Ansari alias Ejaz, who is currently serving life term in Naini jail in a murder case.
He said that Ejaz was an active member of Chhota Rajan gang.
The spokesman said that Ejaz’s uncle Anees Eda was also a member of the Rajan gang, who was killed by Dawood gang in Mumbai.
The criminals revealed that Ejaz has asked them to scare a cable operator Shetty in Bhiwandi area of Mumabi by opening fire on him so that he could be extorted.
The accused said that they had assembled in Allahabad to finalise their plan before leaving for Mumbai.
Indresh told STF sleuths that he came into contact with Ejaz through his relative Akhilesh Guru, who was also lodged in Naini jail here.
“Since then Indresh used to look after Ejaz’s operations from outside and once supplied extortion money to the latter inside the jail,” the spokesman said.
Indresh revealed that after arrest of Chhota Rajan in Indonesia, Ejaz was “glad as after the don’s deportation to India he could use his name for extortion and the money was to be invested in real estate,” the spokesman said.
Three corporators of the Thane Municipal Corporation including a former Mayor were disqualified for involvement in unauthorised constructions.
The corporation said in a press release that Shailesh Patil (MNS), Manohar Salvi (NCP, a former Mayor) and Ram Egde (Shiv Sena) were disqualified by the Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal under the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act’s section 10(1)(d).
The order followed final hearing of show-cause notices issued to the three corporators in the Commissioner’s chamber.
While Patil had carried out unauthorised construction on his own land, Egde had purchased an illegally built house in his wife’s name. Salvi was accused of preventing a demolition squad of TMC from pulling down an illegal structure in his ward and assaulting an assistant municipal commissioner.
The Bombay High Court granted till December 22 interim protections from arrest to four corporators of nearby Thane who had sought anticipatory bail in the suicide case of builder Suraj Parmar.
The interim bail was granted by a vacation bench on separate petitions filed by corporators Vikrant Chavan of Congress, Najib Mulla and Hanumant Jagdale of NCP and Sudhakar Chavan, an Independent.
Justice Ravi K Deshpande asked the corporators to pay Rs. 1 lakh surety each and deposit their mobile phones and passports to Thane police.
They were also directed not to enter the premises of Thane Municipal Corporation until further court orders.
Thane police had registered a case of ‘abetment to suicide’ and for offences of criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act after a notebook left by Parmar in his car revealed their names as the ones who had allegedly harassed him.
Public prosecutor Raja Thakre said the petitioners were not cooperating with police and their mobiles were found switched off. They were also not available to police. Besides, their names were found in the builder’s notebook.
Their lawyer Sirish Gupte argued that they should be given anticipatory bail as their custodial interrogation was not required in this case. The lawyer argued that allegations pertained to bribes being taken by municipal officers from the builder and they (corporators) were not those officers.
