Heidi Klum turns Jessica Rabbit on Halloween

Heidi-KlumSupermodel Heidi Klum, who always goes out of her way to pull off a fabulous Halloween costume, debuted her Jessica Rabbit look for her annual costume bash held in New York City.

The 42-year-old “Project Runway” host got the look down with prosthetics that gave her an hourglass figure, said reports.

Klum dressed as Ms Rabbit from the 1988 film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”. The cartoon, voiced by Kathleen Turner, became a symbol of silver screen sex appeal in the eighties.

Klum’s costume was very close to the real thing. She wore a red dress with no straps with thigh high slit and a sweetheart neckline.

She seemed comfortable in her new skin. The model had spent days in a prosthetic lab to create her stunning look.

She dropped hints several times on social media that she was adding to her rail thin figure for her Halloween surprise.

Some people guessed on her Instagram account that she was going as Kim Kardashian or Amber Rose.

Some of Klum’s most standout costumes have been Lady Godiva on horseback (2001), the snake and apple from The Garden of Eden (2006), and a purple-skinned alien (2010).

If I ever became a father, would like to become like King Khan: Varun Dhawan

VarunBollywood actor Varun Dhawan says his ‘Dilwale’ co-star Shah Rukh Khan is a hands-on father.

28-year-old Varun, who is sharing screen space with the superstar for the first time, said he had a great time playing with Shah Rukh’s youngest child AbRam.

Varun added Shah Rukh has been warned by Gauri not to talk much about AbRam.

“I most definitely played with him… He is very fond of me… I will not talk much about him because Gauri ma’am has warned Shah Rukh Sir (SRK) not to speak about Abram and so I can’t talk at all about him,” Varun said on the sidelines of the ongoing MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival here.

Varun, son of filmmaker David Dhawan, could not stop heaping praise on King Khan – a father. Shah Rukh is parent to three kids– AbRam, Aryan and Suhana.

“He (Shah Rukh) is an outstanding father… I have never met a father like him… He goes weak in his knees. If I ever become a father I would want to be as good as him. Even in his busy time he gives as much time as possible to his kids,” the “Main Tera Hero” star said.

No rush to do continues films: Nimrat Kaur

Nimrat-KaurHer last film was 2013 hit “The Lunchbox” but Nimrat Kaur is not worried about her absence from the big screen as the actress says she prefers quality over quantity.

While she was busy working in the fourth season of hit American espionage thriller “Homeland” last year, the 33-year-old actress did not have any release this year.

“For me it is quality over quantity. It is not possible for me do all types of roles. Plus, I am starting now; I cannot be dictating terms like that. I am happy the way it (career) is going,” said Nimrat.

The actress is looking forward to her next film “Airlift” in which she will star alongside Akshay Kumar. It will release in January next year.

Nimrat may have had a dry spell at the home front, but internationally she made her mark with the role of Tasneem Qureshi in “Homeland”.

Her stint on American television was followed by actress Priyanka Chopra’s lead role in another series, “Quantico”.

But Nimrat said that the trend of Indian actors appearing in TV projects in the US is nothing new.

“There are so many Indians who have good roles in American TV shows like Kunal Nayyar, Archie Punjabi and even Irrfan. I think Irrfan is a pioneer in that sense. This is nothing new, it has been happening for a while. It is just that more attention is given to it now,” she said.

The actress is open to doing more projects outside of India, saying, “I think I will go where ever the wind takes me. It is a great environment to work, amazing technicians and actors. There is so much to learn.”

Nimrat is excited about the screening of her Vasan Bala-directed film, “Peddlers” at the ongoing 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai International Film Festival in Mumbai.

“I have a very special role in the film. It is a great film. I wish the team all the very best and hope that the film gets a theatrical release soon.”

The film also stars Gulshan Devaiah, Kriti Malhotra and Siddharth Menon.

Deepika Padukone: I am ready to explore options in the West

DipikaBollywood star Deepika Padukone famously refused to work in Fast and Furious 7 and chose to promote Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram-Leela instead. While the actor says she still doesn’t regret her decision, she is now ready to explore options in the West.

“I am interested in doing Hollywood films. I am ready to explore… working in the West. I couldn’t do Fast and Furious.. I am glad I chose to do Ram Leela promotions,” Deepika said. She was speaking about her journey in Bollywood at a Mumbai event.

“If something interesting comes up I will take up. Here we are subject to shelf life… keeps arising… times have changed. There it is not like that,” the 29-year-old actor said.

The Chennai Express star is happy with the way her career has shaped up and insists success has not changed her as a person. “I have not changed … my family would speak about it. I do wash dishes at home…I did last night. My parents …school friends are supportive and encouraging,” Deepika said.

“They have not stopped their lifestyle… they continue doing their work and they do know I am going to do my work. Father would lock me up if I change,” she said.

All rapists should get death penalty: Anuhya’s father

He is pleased with the court verdict awarding death sentence to convict Chandrabhan Sanap.

AnuhyaEsther Anuhya’s family heaved a sigh of relief after special women’s court awarded death sentence to the accused Chandrabhan Sanap responsible for brutal rape and murder of Anuhya. After Anuhya’s murder her father S. Jonathan Prasad had to undergo severe hardships and run from pillar to post for getting justice. Jonathan said that he was like a close friend to his daughter and she used to share every detail of her life with him. Initially the Mumbai Police had failed to cooperate with Jonathan and asked him to file a FIR in Vijayawada instead of Mumbai. They also asked him to prove that Esther was in Mumbai when the crime had occurred. He had met the then Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde who assured him that justice will be delivered to him.

Welcoming the court verdict Jonathan said, “Justice has been done and we are grateful to the police, courts and media for taking up the cause so diligently… It will serve as a deterrent to others. All rapists should get death penalty.”

Prasad, a retired professor, who now resides in the sleepy locality of Nobel Colony, said he has complete faith in the judiciary and the fact that Sanap, 29, was convicted of the crime in just 22 months of trial, reflects that trust.

“A lot of people kept telling me that nothing would happen in my daughter’s case. Some even told me not to trust the judicial system. But I have complete faith and fast-tracking of the case has proved that I wasn’t wrong,” Prasad said.

Reacting to the death sentence Esther’s uncle Arun Kumar said, “The family is happy with the sentence.”

While awarding the death sentence, the court termed the case as “rarest of rare”.

“The case falls under the category of the rarest of rare, hence the accused is awarded death sentence…He must be hanged by his neck till he is dead,” said Special Women’s court judge Vrushali Joshi pronouncing the verdict.

Sanap was convicted under IPC Section 302 (murder), Section 376 (rape) and Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence).

The prosecution told the sessions court which tried Sanap that the killing was a “crime against society” and sought the capital punishment. Special public prosecutor Raja Thakare said there is a need for strict punishment in such cases to create a society where women are not insecure.”

“Violent crimes against women have increased, which is not a good sign. Women work in night shifts. If it leads to insecurity, it is not a good for society or even the law. Such offences deserve the death penalty,” Thakare said.

Chandrabhan Sanap, who has been consistently denying the charges put on him broke down outside the court after hearing the sentence. Sanap said, “I have not committed any crime. I never expect to be given death. There is no evidence against me. I have been punished for something I have not done. I have not seen my daughter. What should I do with my life?

Why PM Modi became nervous at Indo-African summit?

Mahatma Gandhi and former prime ministers of India Jawaharlal Nehru and his daughter Indira Gandhi was praised by many top African leaders as they recalled the historic ties Africa shared with India. One can understand how humiliating this can be for BJP’s Prime Minister who keeps on boasting about Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Deen Dayal Upadhyay and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ government was sworn in, it has been doing something which every one of us do when we take over a place from someone else – changing signage. The BJP government’s attempt towards removing the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty names from a plethora of government schemes is apparently visible. After coming to power in May, the BJP had said it would review the use of Nehru-Gandhi family names in 650 schemes, projects and institutions.

They recalled the historical ties that bind us over the last century, emphasising particularly the role of two of your visionary prime ministers, Jawaharlal Nehru and his daughter, Indira Gandhi. Calling Nehru an active participant at the famous Bandung Conference in Indonesia in 1955 and subsequently a founding member of the Non Aligned Movement in 1961, he said the principles enshrined in the Non-Aligned Movement were reflected in our South-South solidarity interactions in today’s challenging times. “Indira Gandhi, in her first 11 years in office from 1966 to 1977, changed India’s African policy through the introduction of the Africa-India Development Cooperation and India’s support for liberation struggles in Africa, including South Africa.” In his address, Mugabe said Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru led the way through non-violence and showed the path to rid India and Africa of colonialism. The 91-year-old Mugabe also termed the Indian National Congress as a “great party” as he recalled Africa’s ties to Gandhi and the Congress.

Recently, it replaced, the Planning Commission with a new institution named NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India). The institution was set up by the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in the year 1950. In such situations where they are trying to eliminate these names, a foreign delegation that came to India was non-stop recollecting those names. I am sure; Modi must be somewhere even ashamed of his deeds. We cannot neglect their contribution towards this country’s independence and thereafter.

South African President Jacob Zuma and Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe were among those who mentioned, during their speeches at India-Africa Forum Summit, the contribution of the Gandhi and Nehru families in strengthening ties between the continent and India. What is it about the Gandhi-Nehru parivar that bothers the Sangh parivar? Why do Sanghis – from the grandees of the BJP and its mentor the RSS, to the neo-supporters who have emerged from the woodwork after years of keeping quiet, to the troll Sena that robotically hits out at anyone who is seen as the enemy – break out into a rash at the very mention of Nehru and his progeny? Why don’t the ministers get on with the job of governance instead of constantly plotting different ways to undermine or even wipe out any mention of Nehru in the public domain?

Last week, the government mentioned that the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library would not remain confined to the works of India’s first Prime Minister but also include the study of great and glorious achievements of others, and especially the current regime. Given that the NMML – under the now ousted Mahesh Rangarajan – was already devoting the majority of its time and resources to personalities and themes that go well beyond Nehru, BJP leaders either don’t know what they are talking about or are using the logic of a broader agenda to undermine the institution in some way.
While this disagreement was playing out, the Philately Advisory Committee suggested that the ‘definitive’ stamps bearing the images of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi should be discontinued. Communications Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has accepted this suggestion with eagerness and declared, with disarming honesty, that there was no reason why one family should monopolise the list. The two definitive stamps are part of the series “Builders of Modern India”, which has included famous men and women, including Nehru, E V Ramasami Naicker, Gandhi, Ambedkar, Homi Bhabha, J R D Tata, Satyajit Ray, Mother Teresa and C V Raman. To this, Prasad wants to add Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Deen Dayal Upadhyay, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Shivaji, Maulana Azad, Vivekananda and Maharana Pratap, among others.

There is, of course, a political agenda – because it is the BJP’s mission to make India Congress-mukt and ensure that there is no other national political party on the scene. But the Sangh’s exertions in that direction seem overwrought, considering that the Congress itself is doing a fine job of making itself politically irrelevant. No, the BJP doesn’t want to just fight the Congress at the hustings; it wants to obliterate the Nehru-Gandhi family’s place not just in contemporary India but also in history. Anyway, BJP’s politics may play dirty but world will always remember these three great leaders of India.

Underworld don Chhota Rajan’s process of deportation begins, claims government

Chhota-RajanThe process for deportation of underworld don Chhota Rajan has begun even as India and Indonesia are to expedite the work on implementation of an extradition treaty.

India’s Ambassador to Indonesia Gurjit Singh said an extradition treaty and a treaty for mutual legal assistance have already been concluded and letters for their implementation would be exchanged during the visit of Vice President Hamid Ansari beginning on Sunday.

Singh said the process relating to the two treaties is “coincidental” to the visit of the Vice President and not being hurried up.

The ambassador said the process of Rajan’s deportation to India has begun but there is no deadline for it and termed as “speculative and hypothetical” reports that Rajan had surrendered to the Indonesian authorities.

The India-Indonesia extradition treaty was signed in 2011 but has not been implemented yet.

Lawyer Fransico Prassar, who has been hired by Rajan, met him at the detention centre where he is lodged but he refused to make any comment on his client, one of India’s most wanted criminals.

“I have met him and discussed about the case. Beyond that I have no comment to offer now,” Prassar told reporters.

In New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said the Ministries of External Affairs and Home were working together to bring back Rajan from Indonesia “as early as possible”.

The 55-year-old Rajan, whose original name is Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalje, was questioned by the Indonesian police for six hours today about his identity and criminal acts in India.

Bali Police Commissioner Reinhard Nainggolan said Rajan has been allowed to communicate to the Indian mission in Bali besides allowing a meeting with a lawyer.

Rajan, who is wanted in over 75 heinous crimes ranging from murder, extortion to smuggling and drug trafficking, was questioned both in English as well as in Hindi through a translator.

An Indonesian police spokesperson said that they have submitted a report to the Indian consulate in Bali as well as Interpol about Chhota Rajan’s arrest and identity.

Asked about the reports of threat to Rajan’s life, the spokesperson said since Rajan got a lawyer, the spokesperson can talk to him and through him can lodge a complaint.

He said Rajan has been cooperating with the police so far and has accepted that his real name is Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalje.

Mumbai-born Rajan, once a close confidante-turned-rival of underworld ganglord Dawood Ibrahim, yesterday said that he was not afraid of Dawood, the prime accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

Rajan was arrested in this popular Indonesian tourist destination on a Red Corner Notice issued by Interpol after eluding law enforcement agencies for over two decades.

Out of these 75 cases, Rajan is facing four cases under Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), one under Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) and over 20 cases under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Indian security agencies are likely to send a team of officials here to bring back the gangster who is in custody since Sunday.

The sources are tight-lipped about the exact arrangements to bring him back because of security concerns arising out of his fierce rivalry with Dawood and his gang.

They said agencies are working on more than one plan to bring back Rajan factoring various permutations and combinations.

RPI chief Athawale gives ‘Dalit’ angle, says ‘Chhota Rajan did nothing against nation’

AthawaleIn India, it takes a few irrational remarks to give a communal colour to any issue. Now, Republican Party of India (A) chief Ramdas Athawale feels that infamous gangster Chhota Rajan was arrested due to his Dalit background.

Questioning Rajan’s arrest, Athawale even went on to say that he did nothing against the nation.

“He did nothing against the nation, yet he got arrested. Dawood is still free. Is it only because he is Dalit?” said Athawale.

“Not against Rajan’s arrest but Dawood has committed more serious crimes. India has not been able to nab him despite info available,” he added.

Underworld don Rajendra Sadashiv Nikhalje alias Chhota Rajan, a former aide of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim, was arrested by the Indonesian police in the tourist resort of Bali, Central Bureau of Investigation informed on Monday.

The CBI had issued a red corner notice against Rajan on the request of the Mumbai police after he fled India in 1995. He was wanted for running an organised crime syndicate beside serious crime including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and possession of illegal fire arms.

After Sudheendra Kulkarni, Sena workers blacken RTI activist’s face

Shiv Sena workers on Friday assaulted and blackened the face of an RTI activist at Latur in Marathwada region, after he “exposed” an illegal construction case.

The activist Mallikarjun Bhaikatti had, through an RTI query, revealed that around 14,000 sq feet illegal construction was carried out in a four-storeyed building and boys hostel on the Latur-Nanded road.

Bhaikatti had addressed a press conference at Latur yesterday to “expose” the illegal construction, police said.

The Sena workers brought Bhaikatti to the college premises today when around 4,000 students were present and assaulted him with an iron rod, before blackening his face.

The injured RTI activist has been admitted to a hospital in Latur.

Local Sena activist Abhay Salunke said Bhaikatti was a “blackmailer”.

Earlier this month, Sena workers had blackened the face of Sudheendra Kulkarni, chairman of the Observer Research Foundation, in an ink attack ahead of the launch of ‘Neither a Hawk Nor a Dove: An Insider’s Account of Pakistan’s Foreign Relations’ authored by former Pakistan foreign minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri.
