Have you won a ‘lottery’? Your money may be going to Dawood Ibrahim

Stepping up pressure on underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, the Income Tax officials on Thursday unearthed Rs. 100-crore hawala racket in Kolkata, West Bengal.

Dawood’s D-Company is suspected of having a role in the racket. The 60 sacks of Indian currency seized by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) was meant to be transferred to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said an initial probe.

The raids were conducted on the basis of inputs provided by the Intelligence Bureau (IB). It is estimated that more than Rs. 50 crore has already been accounted for.

Sources said that the modus operandi suggested the money laundering group has ties with Dawood Ibrahim, who is hiding in Pakistan.

“All such money laundering syndicates which route money to UAE or Saudi Arabia have links with D-Company,” said an intelligence official.

Sources further claimed that the money was generated through lottery schemes in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, and kingpins from the two states are involved in the racket that has links with the underworld.

Not only this, intelligence agencies have zeroed in five businessmen who are said to be the kingpins of the international money laundering syndicate.

“Their business enterprises are a front for money laundering. Their links in the UAE and D-Company are being investigated. They run small businesses, but the real objective is money laundering,” the intelligence official said.

Sources said the money laundering network is being controlled from Pakistan through fraudulent lottery schemes which dupe people across India.

The IB has submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in which it was said that the swindle is estimated to be over Rs. 4,000 crore as the money is routed to Pakistan through hawala channels via Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Muslims should sacrifice their sons instead of animals on Eid: BJP leader

BJP’s Indore MLA Usha Thakur has stirred up a hornet’s nest when she advised Muslim community to either sacrifice their sons or give up the practice of sacrificing innocent animals on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

Citing an ancient tale, Thakur said that it was the son who was sacrificed and later it was substituted by a goat.

“So if we have to sacrifice somebody then it should be either our sons or if we can’t do that then we have no right to take a life of an innocent being,” she said.

“I appreciate the decision taken by some of our Muslim brothers to not sacrifice innocent animals. I believe that if we can’t give birth to someone, we have no right to take away its life. These innocent animals are also the creation of God,” she added.

Bakri’ (Goat) Eid or Eid-ul-Zuha is one of the most celebrated festivals among Muslims all over the world. The festival is a day to commemorate the Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail on God’s command.

Youths addicted to technology – Part II

While driving or even travelling through trains and walking young boys and girls use the ear phone as they fail to hear the sound of the train or vehicle arriving. Thus the writing is on the wall it is better from overdoing anything will spell doom in the end. By applying to technology one should not fall victim of cyber-crime. One should remember that breaking the law online is an offence and punishable. The major flaw in the present system is the way youngsters are given freehand to move in isolation or in a group thereby the developing a bad character and that lead to all the troubles. The biggest problem is that technology has become such a large part of the way we live in that it has become virtually impossible to live without it.

The mind of the youngsters have become corrupt and they look for money to lead a better life style. They are unable to mingle with a group belonging to good background and fall into the trap of bad elements. Watching Bollywood films make them more aggressive as they tend to emulate the stunts performed by actors. Teenagers are not scared to commit rape in open as they are shameless in their acts and do not foresee the repercussions. Today’s children even kidnap their own brothers to achieve their aim of making easy money.

Teachers act as friend, philosopher and guide for the children. They should also try to inculcate good behaviour among children and ask them to follow discipline. Preventing the youngsters from the follies of social life is a difficult task. The mind should be developed in such a way to face any eventuality and the will to go on the right path. Youths have to face many obstacles. However it is up to the person to make a decent living instead of committing unwanted offences and thereby bringing insult to the family and the institution you study or work. Parental care is of utmost importance to guide them to achieve a religious frame of mind and that gives the additional protection when one encounter such ticklish situation. All are not born criminals. So the right approach and the right mix of friendship prevent you from becoming perpetrators of such heinous crimes. One should not get carried away by infatuation.

Mile Sur Mera Tumhara unites the World

Bringing gorgeous women together on one stage through Beauty pageants has become very common nowadays, but there are very few contests that have stayed and made a mark in the hearts of people. Miss India Worldwide Pageant is one such beauty contest that has been held for 24 years now. Sustaining and running an International beauty contest where the world unites together and fight for the same crown year after years for over two decades is surely not an easy task. Miss India Worldwide contest has a unique motto ‘Beauty with talent and brains’ which over the years has proved that a quality product always finds a way to sustain itself.

Indian have spread their roots all over the world, be it a small butterfly shaped island of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean or the romantic country France or even oil rich nations like Kuwait and Oman or for that matter of fact very quickly developed countries like Singapore and Malaysia. Indians have reached all over the world, they have settled there have had inter-region marriages and even made a mark for themselves in different fields. So why not give an opportunity to their gorgeous daughters who have the capability of being a beauty queen. Keeping this in Mind Mr. Dharmatma Saran founded the Miss India Worldwide Pageant in 1991 and since then there has been no looking back for this dynamic man who lives in New York city.

Each year Girls of Indian origin from all over the world compete for the Miss India title at their respective countries and the winner then come together to win the crown at the ‘Miss India Worldwide’ . Each year the event is held in different countries making the contest more and more popular all over the world, this year it was turn of India to host the event. To be precise The Lalit hotel in Mumbai was chosen as its venue for Indian beauties from world over to meet and compete.

I was fortunate that Mr. Saran and the team of Emirates events chosen me to choreograph and train the girls for the 24th Miss India Worldwide 2015. This pageant is a talent based contest where the talent of the girls is taken into consideration more than her beauty and body. Yes she has to have the qualities of a beauty queen but she has to be a beauty with a talent, apart from that she has to be someone who is global at heart but truly Indian in spirit.

To bring 33 stunning women from world over together on one stage for the opening act was not an easy task for my team and me. Because I did not want to look partial to any contestant or country at the same time bring out the grace and beauty of each girl. Keeping this in mind my team of Ankita Dolawat, Ashutosh Arya and Jameel Shah planned the opening round on the popular track ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ as I believe this song is ideal for bringing Indians together. Week-long of hard work, hope, fear, tears and smiles finally paid off when the beauties appeared on stage waving with the flags of their respective countries and then dancing mix steps between Indian classical dance and few Bollywood steps to the most famous track of Indian unity. This was one choreography that was difficult for me not because the girls spoke different languages and it was tough for me to communicate with them but because I wanted to give equal importance to each girl and bring out the best move from them.

The crowd consisting of all NRI parents of contestants and celebrities from Bollywood like choreographer Geeta Kapur, Actors Shekhar Suman, Hrishita Bhatt, Karan Tacker, Designer Rohit Verma, singer Richa Sharma, Astrologer Sundeep Kochar and more, all had tears in their eyes seeing the world come together. It actually looked that the ‘sur ki nadiya’ (the each country they represented) ‘Sagar mein mile’ (come together to India).

All I can say is that, meeting and teaching dance to the Indian origin girls from 33 countries was an experience of a life time that I will always remember. I will never forget few talented girl like Miss India Martinique who spoke nothing but French, her great grandfather’s father was an Indian, knowing this one would think she is not an Indian from any side, but she was a Kathak dancer, who also danced the salsa, meringue and bachata along with telling stories of Krishna Raas Lila, Geeta and Ramayan all in French. Miss Sweden danced the Mohiniattam, Miss Jamaica on the other hand danced Jamacian traditional dance Jonkonnu as gracefully as she performed the Indian classical dance Odissi. Miss Malaysia spoke of how few episodes of Malaysian Ramayan were a bit different from the Indian version and the best was Miss Sri Lanka who danced the Canadian dance and compared it to Bharatnatyam. This is what I call a true Indian who accepts new cultures but never leave its traditions whereever they go.

The contest that brings the best Indian girls together from all over the world finally concluded when Miss India South Africa Ms. Shivani Govender was declared 2nd Runner up, Miss India India Ms. Apeksha Porwal announced 1st runner up and Miss India Oman Ms. Stephanie Lohale was crowned Miss India Worldwide 2015.

Calendar Girls – Save yourself the trouble and give this one a miss.

MadhurMadhur Bhandarkar has been unmasking the world of showbiz to the audience for a while now. Be it “Fashion” or “Heroine”, the director has stripped glamour industries naked for his viewers and with “Calendar Girls” he hopes to do the same, or at least promises so.

He showed the world the real and dark side of the entertainment world through these films. When people say the showbiz industry brings in money, fame and name, Madhur showed how it is gained.

Madhur captured the Indian minds and showed them the unknown side of entertainment industry. When the news of his next film ‘Calendar Girls’ broke out, there was a lot of eagerness to watch it, as it was Madhur’s one more realistic film.

The film starts with five ambitious young women setting out on the journey of their lives for the love of fashion. A Bengali, a Muslim, a Catholic, a small town girl and another from a metro get selected to feature in the biggest fashion calendar of the year. On the very first ice breaking session with their photographer Ronit Roy, he probes into the sexual pasts of the girls.

Acres and acres of flesh—pushed-up cleavage, bare legs disappearing under the shortest, flimsiest of shim-shams, swaying washboard abs — is on constant display, cementing every single prejudice spilling out in these times of ravenous tabloidization. If you are a ‘calendar girl’, you must be, a) hot b) easy c) willing-to-compromise d) sleep your way to the top. Fill in the rest of the alphabets.

Bhandarkar has nothing interesting or new to offer in this flick. The girls look clones of each other. Everything looks forced: right from the cheesy dialogues they mouth to their lovemaking scenes! High on melodrama, the film has neither powerful cast nor content!

The film traces individual journeys of the girls after their famed calendar shoot. Predictably, everything begins on a high note for the girls and then life happens!

Gay designers, old school filmy managers, shrewd corporates, sleaze balls and high society gossipmongers… You will find these familiar characters even in this flick.

Though, all the five actresses playing the calendar girls, namely Kyra, Avani, Ruhi, Akanksha and Satapura have performed their respective roles to the best of their abilities. They do not land up playing a caricature, which makes their roles very relatable. Even though the men did not have much to do, still, actors like Suhel Sheth, Rohit Roy, Atul Parchure and Keith Sequeira shine in their respective characters.

The music (Meet Bros) is situational. Since the premise of the film did not have any requirement of music, one did not miss the want of a chartbuster song in the film.

Madhur Bhandarkar has always tried to make women centric films exposing the ugly underbelly of society. Here too he tries to do the same and as usual fails miserably. What could have been a thought provoking depiction of the dizzying heights of stardom becomes an unimaginative piece of humdrum. Save yourself the trouble and give this one a miss.

BMC’s publicity stunt?

The civic body should have taken steps to prevent the spread of dengue instead of issuing notices to celebrities.

BMCAt a time when dengue cases has been rising in Mumbai the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is busy issuing notices to celebrities like Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Jitendra and singer Amit Kumar. What is the purpose of issuing notices to celebrities when the BMC has failed to check the spread of dengue in cooperative housing societies and slum areas? The notices, which were issued under Mumbai municipal corporation act, were for failing to keep the premises of their residence clean and tidy.

The civic body should have paid more attention to sanitising slum areas as water gets accumulated in these areas thereby forming breeding grounds for mosquitoes. By sending notices to celebrities the BMC is only trying to gain publicity. The nation has been witnessing rise in number of cases since the outbreak of dengue. Delhi is the worst affected and has reported more than 3,700 cases of dengue. With temperature rising, case of dengue, caused by Aedes Aegypti breeding indoors, are steadily climbing.

“Even though the Shiv Sena has been in power for a long period of time in the BMC but they have failed to provide basic amenities to the public, weather its water, desilting, nullah cleaning. Instead of addressing these issues, they are involved in unnecessary things. It is the civic body’s job to ensure that cleanliness is maintained in the city but they are busy issuing notices to film stars. Who gave them authority to examine celebrities’ houses?” said Ex-Congress MLA Krishna Hegde.

“BMC has failed to perform their jobs efficiently. They should sanitise the slum areas and dengue-affected areas. Where does the budget of BMC go? The BMC buildings; schools are also highly vulnerable to dengue and other such diseases. Instead of serving notice to these celebrities they should first monitor the functioning of their officials” said RTI activist Anil Galgali.

Sudesh Singh, a Kandivali resident said, “There has been a rise in dengue cases in the city but the BMC has failed to take effective steps to avert it. Instead it is sending notices to celebrities simply to gain publicity.”

Ramesh Atre, a Borivali resident said, “It is necessary to maintain hygiene and clean our neighbourbood to check the rise of dengue. Citizens need to play a proactive role to prevent the spread of this disease. Simply blaming the BMC for rising cases of dengue won’t work.”

Nilu Gupte, a Santacruz resident said, “BMC officials are trying to extract some money from these celebrities, nothing else. Dengue is a serious issue, what steps is the BMC taking to curb the deaths? Was it necessary to issue notices instead of taking precautions and provide medical facilities to the affected persons?”

“I live in apartment in Jogeshwari. My bed-room window faces a nullah hence, mosquitoes thrive in our area. The situation gets worse in monsoons. Despite filing complaints with the society and local ward officers no action has been taken yet” said Zubin Lakhdawala, a Jogeshwari resident.

The BMC had inspected several bungalows including Amitabh Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty, Shabana Azmi. Those who failed to comply with the rules and bungalows had breeding mosquito spots were issued notices. The actors, who have been issued notices, will have to pay fine ranging between 2,000 to 10,000 in magistrate courts.

According to sources, BMC officials found breeding sites in a fountain in a garden at Jitendra’s residence. At Anil Kapoor’s residence, a breeding site was found outside his house in a tarpaulin sheet. According to civic officials, a breeding site was found in an ornamental pot at Chawla’s flat.

Since January, 469 patients have tested positive for dengue. The death toll has reached three, the latest victim being a 36-year-old woman from Andheri West.

The death toll due to dengue rose to three in the city with a Andheri (West) woman succumbing at Nair hospital. The 36-year-old woman, residing at Joseph Patel Wadi, was admitted to hospital on September 12 after suffering from fever, chills, body ache and vomiting for over five days. The delay in hydration and corrective treatment worsened her condition.

The maximum cases have been reported in Byculla (E ward), Lower Parel and Parel (G South ward), where 63 cases have been reported since January. In September alone, the city has reported 163 cases of confirmed dengue.

Hardik Patel’s detention theory ‘Unsatisfactory’

Hardik Patel appeared in the Gujarat High Court, which asked him to detail in writing his allegations of being abducted and illegally detained by the state police. For about 40 minutes, the 22-year-old politician sat in court and wrote on three sheets of paper, which then were ordered to be kept in sealed cover by the court. Observing that the allegations of Hardik being in illegal custody prima facie seem “unsatisfactory,” the court has also asked Patel’s lawyer to substantiate on September 29, such allegations in his petition to the court two days ago. Hardik Patel must be present in court that day, it said.

In the meantime, the court has said, the state police can proceed in the cases it has registered against Hardik Patel for defying prohibitory orders while holding a rally in north Gujarat. However, police sources revealed that his arrest was unlikely at least till Tuesday when the High Court continues hearing in the case.

Patel alleged that they threatened him to call off his agitation for reservation in government jobs and colleges for the Patel community. The state police have denied detaining Patel. It has said that Mr. Patel had fled in a vehicle on Tuesday when they tried to detain him for holding a large public meeting in the north Gujarat village without seeking permission. Patel had addressed a crowd of about 2000 to 3000 people. When Hardik Patel was briefly detained after a massive rally in Ahmedabad last month, there was violence in many cities of Gujarat. He was arrested on last Saturday, after he attempted to hold a protest rally in Surat (South Gujarat) for which he did not have permission.

Caste based reservations is biggest issue in India especially this has become a political tool, to create ruckus. In India, the Other Backward Castes (OBC) status is an affirmative action which provides reserved quotas in education and government jobs. In Gujarat, 27% seats are reserved for OBC, 7.5% for Scheduled Castes and 15% for Scheduled Tribes totaling 49.5% of all seats. The Supreme Court has capped the maximum reservation at 50% in 1992 judgement. In 1981, the Government of Gujarat headed by Indian National Congress (INC) chief minister Madhavsinh Solanki, introduced the reservation for socially and economically backward castes (SEBC) based on recommendations of Bakshi Commission. It resulted in anti-reservation agitation across the state which spilled over in riots resulting in more than hundred deaths. Solanki resigned in 1985 but later returned to power winning 149 out of 182 assembly seats. He was supported by Kshatriya, Harijan, Adivasi and Muslims; called collectively as KHAM. It resulted in other communities including Patidars losing the political influence which later alienated the INC. The SEBC (later OBC) list initially had 81 communities which expanded to 146 communities by 2014. The agitation took inspiration from the agitation by Gujjar community in Rajasthan which ended in May 2015.

We must also consider that in upper classes also there are economically weaker sections. Agricultural land is being divided and sub divided among family members. The vendors, who are selling eatable items on the roads, are earning more than these upper class communities. Most of the Brahmins in cities are taxi drivers and security guards. Their income is very low and children have no facilities anywhere. Brahamin community is considered as upper class but they have pitiable condition and are finding it difficult to provide two times meals to their children. Brahmins are respected by the people without giving any financial assistance to them. Their children also require government jobs. Is it crime to be born in the family of upper classes? Similarly, in the case of Gujarati Patel or Marathas in Maharashtra all are victims of reservation system. Reservation is becoming curse day by day. Our politicians are reserving their vote banks in the name of reservation. If the jobs are not given to those candidates who are on merit, naturally they will come out and protest. Many more Hardik Patels from every community, religion, states will come out with those people who are denied their rights of jobs.

It is in the interest of the people to abolish reservation system and the jobs should be given only on merit basis irrespective of their castes or religion. If our government fails to stop this reservation system, we should expect more riots, bloodshed, division, further sub-division among pubic in the name of castes and religions. Why candidates from upper class should sacrifice inspite of good merits. Reservation quota is just a votebank for political parties.

The Bombay High Court earlier stayed then Maharashtra government’s (Congress-NCP) decision to give 16 per cent reservation to Marathas in public service and educational institutions. The HC also stayed state’s decision to provide 5 per cent reservation to Muslims in public service, but offered them quota in education. After over 68 years of independence we are unable to overcome the reservation policy. Before this announcement Maharashtra had 52 per cent reservations, which had crossed the limit set at 50 per cent by the Supreme Court. With these fresh reservations, the total percentage of reservations in the state has gone up to 73 per cent. A Public Interest Litigation has already been filed, claiming that the Marathas are not a poor and backward caste. Marathas are richest people in Maharashtra. On the other hand, there seems to be no argument against the 5 per cent reservations for Muslims, the community have a high population of poor and deprived people. The main controversy erupted over reservations for the Marathas, was just to please Maratha votebank. Most powerful politicians in the state belong to the Maratha community. Ten of Maharashtra’s 18 chief ministers have been Marathas including the first CM, Yashwantrao Chavan. Same with Patels in Gujarat, they are considered to be most dominating politicians and also resourceful people, Maratha and Patels are of two extreme types, some are extremely privileged and some are underprivileged and poor.

Since the birth of Maharashtra in 1960 a majority of legislators belong to the Maratha community. The community also controls educational institutions, developmental boards and 168 out of the 200 sugar cooperatives in the state. It is no surprise then that people tend to believe it is a rich and powerful community and do not need any reservation. The tragedy of this community is that only 137 Maratha families are the dominant players in state politics, rest of them don’t even have half the money of these 137. The reason being that, there are 96 clans and most are backward and poor. The Kunbis, known as poor tillers, form a large part of this community. The problem within the Marathas is that Maratha politicians have failed their community. They failed to deliver the goods to the community. As a result, Maratha politicians encounter growing bitterness and want to appease their community by announcing reservations for employment and education. The politicians have hurriedly ignored the most pertinent issues. It is clear that the social stratification and economic distress faced by the Marathas engaged in agriculture is unlikely to be meaningfully addressed merely by demanding OBC status for the community. We can’t forget that Maharashtra is primarily an agrarian economy. Many agricultural peasants and small-time farmers have been reduced to labours, among them are many clans of Marathas. Even the Brahmins in Maharashtra are living an average life. However, no one thought of giving them reservation, as they are the actual minorities now.

Political parties are dividing the people on such useless issues. Is there any need to declare reservation? Basically, the reservation should not be there for general people. Let the new generation come with their own charisma instead of depending upon such tactics. By offering such quotas, the government wants to gain cheap popularity at the end. However, youngsters should go with competitive mind instead of adopting easy routes. No government should try to offer such quotas. There should be some limit to populism. Politicians can go to any limits to secure votes for capturing power. Reservation is a magic formula for this purpose. Every class wants reservations as shortcuts and nobody pleads for merit or efficiency, by making it a country of intellectual pygmies.

Governor rejects plea to cancel Sanjay Dutt’s jail term

SanjayMaharashtra Governor Ch.Vidyasagar Rao has reportedly rejected an appeal made by former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju two-and-half-years ago, seeking pardon for Bollywood actor – Sanjay Dutt – who was convicted for illegal possession of arms in the Mumbai 1993 blasts case.

In his appeal, Katju had sought pardon for Dutt under Article 161 of the Constitution, saying that he had not been found guilty of playing a role in the 1993 blasts and had suffered a lot.

Katju said the Supreme Court, having found that Sanjay Dutt had in his possession a prohibited weapon without a licence, awarded him the minimum imprisonment which was prescribed under law.

“Section 25 (1(A) of the Arms Act states that if a person has in his possession a prohibited weapon without a licence, he shall be awarded punishment of not less than 5 years imprisonment and not more than 10 years,” Katju said.

He added the power of pardon under Article 161 by the Constitution is different from judicial power as the Governor or the President can grant pardon or reduce the sentence of the court even if a minimum is prescribed.

The Supreme Court had convicted Dutt under the Arms Act for possessing weapons in 2013 and sentenced to six years in jail. He had spent about 18 months behind bars earlier and is now serving his remaining 42-month jail term. He has been out on parole and furlough a few times since May 2013.

Dutt is currently out on a parole yet again on account of his daughter’s nose surgery.

‘Maharashtra police made arrest in Pansare case only after K’taka cops got leads’

Sachin-SawantThe Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee accused the state government of not being serious about cracking down on the right-wing organisation Santhan Sanstha early on, and said it woke up only after the Karnataka police got certain leads.

Maharashtra police have arrested Samir Gaikwad, a member of Sanatan, in the CPI leader Govind Pansare murder case.

“Karnataka police (while investigating murder of the writer M M Kulburgi) reached Kolhapur and Sangli (in Maharashtra) to investigate the leads they had got regarding involvement of Sanatan members,” state Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant said.

“Now Maharashtra police have woken up and expedited investigations into Pansare case. Gaikwad had been called by the police and let off a few months ago,” he alleged.

Accusing the BJP-led government of wanting to derail the investigation of Pansare murder case, Sawant alleged that the police were being asked to look for “a different angle”.

He also alleged that former union home secretary R K Singh played a role in the Centre’s rejection of the previous (Congress-led) government’s request to ban Sanatan Sanstha.

“Singh benefited by his decision,” Sawant said, referring to his joining the BJP post-retirement and becoming an MP.
The Congress spokesperson also sought probe into financial background of Sanatan Sanstha.

“The outfit has been threatening journalists, but the government is not taking action against it, he said, demanding immediate ban on the organisation.”
Sawant also said that the tone of the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s reply to the open letter by journalist Rajdeep Sardesai was unbecoming of former.

“Maharashtra respects democratic traditions in which dissent is respected. Successive Congress Chief Ministers have always done this. It is wrong to label individuals who do not agree with you and indulge in personal attacks,” he said.

Jundal tells court he wants to shift to Delhi from Mumbai jail

JundalSuspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist Abu Jundal, an alleged mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, today told a Delhi court he should be shifted to Delhi on completion of trial in an ongoing case in the western metropolis and the case should not be conducted through video conferencing to enable him consult his lawyer.

Jundal alias Sayed Zabiuddin Ansari, who is currently lodged in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail, was produced before the court here through video conferencing where he requested the judge that he be shifted to Delhi for proceedings in the case pending here.

He told District Judge Amar Nath that trial in the 2006 Aurangabad arms haul case in Mumbai, in which he is also an accused, was nearing an end and he should be brought to Delhi after that so that he can consult his counsel M S Khan for his defence in the case.

The court had last month allowed a plea of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) seeking to conduct the proceedings in the case through video-conferencing after the agency apprehended threat to Jundal’s life.

The proceedings in the case in which NIA had chargesheeted Jundal for allegedly conspiring to carry out terror activities in India have been stalled since May 2013 as Jundal was not produced before the court here.

The court, after hearing Jundal’s submission, fixed the matter for November 5 for arguments on charges in the case.

In its application filed earlier before the court, NIA had said that Jundal cannot be produced here as the Maharashtra government, in its May 2013 resolution, apprehends that he could be assassinated or kidnapped by rivals during his transit from jail to court.
