Former FIA chief backtracks after claiming ‘26/11 terror attack was launched by Pakistan’

Former Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) head Tariq Khosa has gone back on his assertions that 26/11 Mumbai terror attack was launched from the Pakistani soil, as per media reports on Sunday.

Reports said that he has made the new claim to a Pakistani daily saying that his article misinterpreted and twisted by the India media.

Now he is saying that terrorists who were involved in the terror attack on the night of November 26, 2008 were non-state actors and added that the Pakistan government had shared all necessary inputs with India.

Khosa who was probing the 26/11 Mumbai attacks had also admitted earlier in an opinion piece published on the website of Pakistani newspaper Dawn that Ajmal Kasab was a Pakistani national.

“Pakistan has to deal with the Mumbai mayhem, planned and launched from its soil,” and had revealed that “Ajmal Kasab was a Pakistani national, whose place of residence and initial schooling as well as his joining a banned militant organisation was established by the investigators.

Kasab was executed by India for his role in Mumbai terror attack.

In more explosive revelations, Khosa had said that in the article that the ten terrorists who launched terror strikes on Mumbai were from the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and were trained near Thatta in Sindh.

Moreover he had added that the dinghy and the engine was bought in Pakistan.

At the same time the ex-FIA chief had maintained that the entire Pakistan security apparatus must ensure that the perpetrators of the terror attacks were brought to justice.

Modi warns people against Lalu-Nitish ‘poison’, CM rakes up ‘Rajdharma’

PM-and-NitishTearing into the ruling Nitish Kumar- Lalu Prasad alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asked the people of Bihar to use the upcoming assembly polls as an opportunity to “free themselves from the jungle raaj” by electing a BJP-led government to and develop and modernise the state.

“You have suffered their arrogance, deceipt and exploitation for the last 25 years. Do you want such a rule to continue for another five years,” the Prime Minister asked at a mass rally here.

“These elections are an opportunity for you to free yourselves from the jungle raaj. … You have so far seen jungle raaj … If you allow jungle raaj part two, it will only spell further disaster for the state,” Modi said.

Taking a jibe at RJD supremo Lalu Prasad over his conviction in the fodder scam, he said “those who go to jail, come out learning bad things.”

He said while the RJD stands for ‘rozana jungle raaj ka dar’ (daily fear of jungle raaj), the JD(U) stood for ‘janata ka daman-utpidan’ (suppression and oppression of the people).

The Prime Minister also attacked the JD(U)-RJD combine over the recent murder of a BJP activist in Patna, saying “this is the beginning of jungle raaj part two. Do you want this to come back?”

“The Prime Minister first pointed fingers at Bihar’s DNA, now he called the state sick,” Mr. Kumar said. ‘I had requested him to take back his words.  But he did nothing of the sort…  I think he has forgotten that Bihar is not called Bimaru anymore.”

Reacting to PM Modi’s dig that Mr. Kumar’s party, the JD(U) stood for  “Janata-ka Daman or Utpiran (subjugation and torture of people), Mr. Kumar said in that context, “India still remembers Mr. Vajpayee’s advice to you to fulfil your Rajdharma (the ruler’s duty) in 2002 (during the Gujarat riots).”Kumar on Sunday took on PM Modi from the front as the latter visited the state for a political rally. The rally was organised at Gaya, the land of Buddha.

Just ahead of the rally, the Bihar CM had dared PM Modi of promising to people that his party would not give poll tickets to criminals.

Congress hurting nation by not letting Parliament function: Venkaiah Naidu

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday said that the Congress and its allies are not hurting the BJP but the nation by not letting the Parliament function.

“By obstructing the Parliament, Congress and its friends are doing a great disservice to the nation. They may be thinking that they are hurting Narendra Modi and the BJP but they are hurting the country and themselves,” said Naidu.

“They cannot recover their lost ground by making such obstructions in Parliament. People are feeling when in power they pushed India backwards, now in opposition they don’t want India to move forward,” he added.

He further said that suspending MPs from the House was not a ‘murder’ of democracy.

“I want to remind Sonia ji, that in 1989, when Rajiv Gandhi ji was the Prime Minister, 63 MPs were suspended from the House, was it a murder of democracy?” asked Naidu.

Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan had earlier this week suspended 25 Congress MPs over disruption of parliamentary proceedings under ruling 374 (A), leading to outrage from various quarters.

Delhi Police to rope in religious figures to counsel men harassing women

In its drive to curb crime against women, Delhi Police has roped in religious figures to counsel men found harassing women in public places in the national capital.

Under its ‘Operation Shishtachar’ Delhi Police lady personnel in plain clothes will also patrol public places to keep a watch on men harassing women.

“We have adopted a two-pronged strategy including legal action and counselling. We have also involved religious figures in the counselling besides experts from the field of psychology and law,” said a senior police officer.

Emphasising that Delhi Police is committed to security of women, the officer said, “We have taken several steps specially ‘Operation Shishtachar’ for this. Lady police personnel visit public places in plain clothes to watch out for eve teasers”.

The lady cops in plain clothes also travel in public transport in the city to catch those who target women during their daily commute to work places.

The idea behind counselling is not only to educate the offenders but also to make them aware about the moral and legal consequences of their acts, said a senior police officer.

Religious figures counsel the harassers by quoting from the scriptures, stressing that disrespectful act against women was against religion.

Under ‘Operation Shishtachar’ launched in first week of August, all the district police units in the national capital have started a campaign in their respective areas.

Most of those caught have been given counselling at police stations to respect women and desist from indulging in eve teasing.

Police have acted against over 800 eve teasers during the operation so far.

Posters warning eve teasers are ready and will soon be visible soon on local buses, bus stops and Metro stations, said Madhur Verma, DCP of North Delhi.

Jail terms for various offences against women like touching, abusing, making vulgar gestures, and accosting, ranging from 3 years to 5 years, have also been highlighted in these posters.
