Sanjay Raut had filed an application for bail in the Special PMLA Court in Mumbai, to which the ED filed its reply today.
In April this year, the ED had attached immovable properties worth Rs 11.15 crore, including a flat at Dadar, held by Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha and eight land parcels at Kihim near Alibag, jointly held by the latter with Swapna Patkar
. On June 28 this year, Sanjay Raut was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the prevention of the money laundering case pertaining to the Rs 1,034 crore Patra Chawl land scam. Raut is being probed in connection with the re-development of Mumbai’s Patra Chawl.

Mumbai Indians have named South African legend Mark Boucher as their Head Coach starting with IPL 2023.
The South African coach was the frontrunner for the position after new roles were appointed to Zaheer Khan and Mahela Jayawardene.
The club recently revamped its current coaching setup, which was followed by the hiring of additional support staff.
Zaheer Khan, who served as the director of cricket operations up until last season, has been promoted to the position of global head of cricket development, replacing Mahela Jayawardene, who has been the head coach of the Mumbai Indians since 2017.
Both of them will be involved with the group’s three teams.
One of Jayawardene’s responsibilities is to supervise the coaching staff at each of the three franchises.
Mark Boucher has had a long and illustrious career as a wicket-keeper, and batsman and holds the record for the most Test dismissals by a wicket-keeper.
Post-retirement he took over as coach for Titans, a top-level cricket franchise in South Africa, and led them to five domestic titles. In 2019, Cricket South Africa appointed Mark Boucher as the head coach where he crafted 11 Test wins, 12 in ODIs, and 23 T20I victories.
“It’s a pleasure to welcome Mark Boucher to Mumbai Indians. With his proven expertise on the field and off it as a coach guiding his team to numerous victories, Mark will add immense value to MI and take forward its legacy,” said Akash M Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm.
“It is an honor and privilege to be appointed as Head Coach of MI. Their history and achievements as a franchise clearly put them up there as one of the most successful sporting franchises in all of the world sports. I look forward to the challenge and respect the need for results. It’s a strong unit with great leadership and players. I look forward to adding value to this dynamic unit,” said Mark Boucher, Head Coach, Mumbai Indians.
With this announcement, speculations about the vacant position of the Mumbai Indians head coach position have been put to rest. Boucher abruptly resigned as South Africa’s head coach on Monday, effective after South Africa’s participation in the next T20 World Cup in Australia, causing a stir.
South Africa had just lost a Test series in England by a score of 2-1. Boucher wants to “pursue other interests and opportunities,” CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki said at the time.
Boucher served as the wicketkeeping coach for the Knight Riders for the 2016 IPL, despite the fact that he may not have much experience coaching in the T20 franchise circuit. He has previously played for both the Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers.
After that, he took over as head coach of Titans in the domestic South African league before taking over as coach of the South African men’s national team.

Mumbai slums have become the hub of adulterated milk 8
The police from Dharavi seized around 1010 litres of adulterated milk. Six people were arrested for allegedly buying milk packets from various companies like Gokul, Amul, and others, adding water to them, then sealing them with a candle flame, and then sealed back. When they examined the packets during the raid, they concluded that the milk had been adulterated by the addition of water.
According to police, they received a tip-off that a milk adulteration racket was underway in Dharavi, acting on which police laid traps and activated their network of informers. Police learned that the offence was committed here frequently over the past few years.
Mumbai police conducted a raid at 5.30 am, wherein the accused were nabbed while they were engaged in packaging the adulterated milk. Police also seized several packets of milk of some reputed brands, along with wax candles, test tubes, lighter, stove pin, and blade. They also seized litres of adulterated milk, which led to the arrest of the accused.
Explaining the modus operandi, police said the accused bought original pouches of milk and mixed tap water into it, which was dirty and non-potable. The mixture would be then packed into fresh packets, with original tags and prints of reputed brands, and then distributed. The adulterated milk packets would contain 40 per cent water, which is unhealthy. Police are now trying to ascertain how the accused procured counterfeit milk pouches and an investigation is underway.
The accused are booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for adulteration of food and drink for sale (section 272), using a false property mark (section 482), counterfeiting property mark used by others (section 483), cheating (section 420), forgery (section 468) and common intention (section 34) along with the Food and Safety Standards Act. They were produced before a local magistrate court and remanded in police custody.
Investigating police officer said, “There are provisions for punishment in the existing laws related to food safety for many offences such as preparation of food items in an unhygienic atmosphere; carrying adulterated food; if a person dies due to consumption of adulterated food or suffers physical ailment or distress, etc. The punishments are in different forms viz. penal charges, imprisonment, etc. The administration does pay attention to maintaining the quality of food items, but citizens should also be alert while buying food items.”
Sunil Pakhare, a scientist of ‘Zilha Sarvajanik Arogya Prayogshala’ (District Public Health Laboratory), Satara and Kolhapur said, “Police raids such adulteration businesses when they get a tip of it, otherwise, the business continues. People need to be very prompt in checking the food packaging and other details to find out the authenticity of the product.”
The adulterated milk samples have been sent to the food and drug administration for further testing.

An own goal at the half-hour mark by Spanish defender Odei Onaindia Zabala, was enough for Bengaluru FC (BFC) to overcome the challenge of Indian Super League (ISL) champions Hyderabad FC (HFC) and make the final of the 131st Indian Oil Durand Cup.
It was a largely cagey second semi-final played here at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK) with HFC having the lion’s share of chances as well as possession and their star striker Batholomew Ogbeche being wasteful for once, but in the end, the Blues did well enough to win the battle of ISL heavyweights.
All 47 games of the 131st Indian Oil Durand Cup are being telecast LIVE on Sports18 1 SD & HD and Sports18 Khel as well as live-streamed on the Over the Top (OTT) platform VOOT! The match began with no team willing to give an inch and as a result, there were quite a few rough challenges witnessed.
BFC’s Parag Shrivas was shown a yellow card early. The goal came quite against the run of play and in what was probably BFC’s first proper attack of the match.
Jayesh Rane played right to Prabir Das, who delivered the perfect cross across the face of the goal for Roy Krishna. The Fijian striker got a touch but Zabala, the BFC central defender in fact deflected it into the back of his own net in the end.
HFC exerted good pressure after the goal and in one particular instance Yasir found Ogbeche with a cross but the Nigerian just missed the target. The half ended with a chance for Sunil Chetri after he got at the end of a long ball but his volley went over the roof of the net.
HFC had 68% possession in the half and three shots on goal to BFC’s one. The second-half as has been the norm, began with each team making one substitution each. BFC gave Rohit Kumar a break and brought in Namgyal Bhutia. HFC brought in Sahil Tavora in place of Hitesh Sharma. There were two more great chances for Ogbeche to score in the half and help bring HFC level.
The first in the 49th minute saw him take a powerful header off a measured cross delivered by Nikhil Poojary, but Gurpreet Sandhu in BFC goal, was up to the task. Then in the 77th, a move involving Halicharan and Borja Herrerra found him in space for a shot at goal, but he was just off-target yet again.
There weren’t too many clear chances in the game after that and it ensured that there was going to be a first-time winner of the IndianOil Durand Cup, come Sunday.
Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer announced his retirement from competitive tennis on Thursday saying that the upcoming Laver Cup in September would be his last Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) event as a player. Federer took to Twitter to announce his retirement through a letter.
He has won 103 ATP singles titles and overall 1,251 matches throughout his illustrious career. Federer has also won 20 Grand Slam titles, including a record-making eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles.
“To my tennis family and beyond, Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest, without a doubt, has been the people I have met along the way: my friends, my competitors, and most of all the fans who give the sport its life. Today, I want to share some news with all of you,” read the letter.
“As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I have worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old. I have played more than 1500 matches over 24 years.”
“Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it is time to end my competitive career. The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour,” announced Federer.
Federer said that the decision is “bittersweet” and he will miss everything that the tour has given him. But at the same time, there is so much to celebrate.
“I consider myself one of the most fortunate people on Earth. I was given a special talent to play tennis, and I did it at a level that I never imagined, for much longer than I ever thought possible,” he added.
Federer thanked his family, former coaches, Swiss Tennis and his team for everything they did for him throughout his career. “I would like to especially thank my amazing wife Mirka, who has lived through every minute with me. She has warmed me up before finals, watched countless matches even while over 8- months pregnant, and has endured my goofy side on the road with my team for over 20 years,” he said.
“I also want to thank my four wonderful children for supporting me, always eager to explore new places and creating wonderful memories along the way. Seeing my family cheering me on from the stands is a feeling I will cherish forever,” he continued.
“I would also like to thank and recognise my loving parents and my dear sister, without whom nothing would be possible. A big thank you to all my former coaches who always guided me in the right direction…you have been wonderful! And to Swiss Tennis, who believed in me as a young player and gave me an ideal start.”
“I really want to thank and acknowledge my amazing team, Ivan, Dani, Roland, and particularly Seve and Pierre, who have given me the best advice and have always been there for me. Also Tony, for creatively managing my business for over 17 years. You are all incredible and I have loved every minute with you,” he concluded.
Federer also thanked his “loyal sponsors”, who he said are like partners to him and hard-working teams and tournaments on the ATP Tour, who consistently welcomed everyone with kindness and hospitality.
“I would also like to thank my competitors on the court. I was lucky enough to play so many epic matches that I will never forget. We battled fairly, with passion and intensity, and I always tried my best to respect the history of the game. I feel extremely grateful. We pushed each other, and together we took tennis to new levels,” he added.
Federer also extended his special thanks to his “unbelievable” fans.
“You will never know how much strength and belief you have given me. The inspiring feeling of walking into full stadiums and arenas has been one of the huge thrills in my life. Without you, those successes would have felt lonely, rather than filled with joy and energy,” he added.
The tennis legend said that the last 24 years on tour have been an incredible adventure for him.
“While it sometimes feels like it went by in 24 hours, it has also been so deep and magical that it seems as if I have already lived a full lifetime. I have had the immense fortune to play in front of you in over 40 different countries. I have laughed and cried, felt joy and pain, and most of all I have felt incredibly alive. Through my travels, I have met many wonderful people who will remain friends for life, who consistently took time out of their busy schedules to come watch me play and cheer me on around the globe. Thank you,” he added.
Federer recalled that when his love for the sport started, he was a ball kid in his hometown of Basel.
“I used to watch the players with a sense of wonder. They were like giants to me and I began to dream. My dreams led me to work harder and I started to believe in myself. Some success brought me confidence and I was on my way to the most amazing journey that has led to this day,” he added.
“So, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart, to everyone around the world who has helped make the dreams of a young Swiss ball kid come true. Finally, to the game of tennis: I love you and will never leave you,” he concluded.
