In order to discourage the mob and mischief mongers during riots or other law and order situations, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is looking for options like high-tech sticks that will ‘stun’ offenders for their women personnel.

This special Polycarbonate baton will have electrical features that will generate an electric shock that will not be lethal.

CRPF is in a process of framing Qualitative Requirements of Polycarbonate Shield and Lathi for women personnel in collaboration with the Defense Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences (DIPAS).

The document accessed by agencies reads that baton (Lathi) shall be used by women troops during their deployment. It is self-defense equipment for troops during their deployments in riots or riot situations.

It is required to be lightweight and made of good quality material. It should have resistance, be flexible and easy to carry.

Polycarbonate baton is a high-impact, durable and lightweight lathi meant for the use of police, paramilitary, allied forces and other security services.

Polycarbonate shield for women troops has to be lightweight with shock absorption capabilities, good quality material and fire resistant for handling crowds with varying degrees of hostility.

Besides that, it must be able to protect the whole body of women personnel from injuries due to impact, blow from blunt objects, brick batting, Lathi blow, stone pelting, projectile /missile, acid bulbs, Molotov’s cocktails and industrial chemicals thrown at her.

The baton should have operational life of red color LED and should glow for 30 minutes continuously with the recharging facility. The Polycarbonate Lathi for women has some added features by means of its electrical components providing better deterrence against the violent mob.

“The Lathi comes well equipped with features meant to deter and discourage the mob and mischief mongers, with its electrical discharge making a buzzing noise, threatening the approachers around. Also, it contains a charged source (battery) that comes with an in-built charger for easy recharging,” the document reads.

At present, CRPF has six battalions of women personnel that contain more than 6,000 women personnel who are deployed in active duty in Jammu and Kashmir, Ayodhya, Manipur, Assam, LWE area and other parts of the country where they are doing a commendable job.

Out of these six battalions, Rapid Action Force (RAF) has 15 small battalions with 35-40 women in each battalion.

When Karan Johar asked the ‘Mr India’ actor, about his view on Nepotism. Anil said, “I just don’t take it seriously. I feel you just keep doing your work and your work speaks. This is a kind of question, especially if you are an actor, you can’t pass on that legacy to your brother or son. You either have it or you don’t. I remember when I started, there was Sunny (Deol), Sanju (Sanjay Dutt).”

Karan Johar interrupted him and brought Jackie’s (Jackie Shroff) name. To which Anil responded, he was an outsider but he got his big break with a Subhash Ghai film and he became an A-lister just with the announcement.

Uganda’s world half marathon record holder Jacob Kiplimo will feature in the Delhi Half Marathon on October 16, the organisers announced on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Kiplimo is the reigning world half marathon champion after winning the title in 2020.

Last year, he ran a phenomenal world record time of 57:31 in Lisbon.

The young Ugandan star has already had an outstanding season, winning both the RAK Half Marathon in the UAE in February in a world-leading time of 57:56 and then the Great North Run half marathon last Sunday.

Kiplimo had also won a 10,000m bronze in the World Athletics Championships in USA and a memorable 5000m/10,000m double at the Commonwealth Games last month.

Ethiopia’s Amdework Walelegn improved the Delhi course record to 58:53 in 2020, but Kiplimo believes he can run the fastest half marathon ever seen on Indian soil during his first visit to the country next month.

“I have been told that the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon course is a quick one and the record suggests that you can run fast times there…with a month to go to the race, I am in good shape, and I will focus on preparing specifically for the race over the next few weeks,” said Kiplimo.

“I had a successful track season although I would have liked to have done a little better at the World Championships, but I have not raced too much this year, so I am still fresh and I want to show the people of Delhi and India what I am capable of,” he added.

The 17th edition of Delhi Half Marathon, a World Athletics elite label event, has a new title sponsor, with the race promoters Procam International joining forces with India’s leading natural resources conglomerate, Vedanta Limited.

The race has a prize fund of USD 268,000, and the international elite field will have its sights on the first prize of USD 27,000 for both men and women.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar on Thursday said the VedantaFoxconn semiconductor plant should not have gone out of Maharashtra, but there was no hope now of the big-ticket project coming back to the state after the joint venture company opted for Gujara.

The Opposition parties have sought to corner the Eknath Shinde-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government following the announcement two days ago that the Rs 1.54 lakh crore semiconductor plant would be set up in neighbouring Gujarat and not in Maharashtra as proposed earlier.

Addressing a press conference, Pawar said the Centre’s assurance to Maharashtra that it will get a bigger project than the Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor plant was is akin to trying to ”convince a child”.

He said the mega project was originally envisaged to come up at Talegaon near Pune city, which already has an automobile hub near Chakan.

It would have been good for the company (Vedanta-Foxconn) had the plant come up at Talegaon, said the former Union minister. Two days ago, India’s mining conglomerate Vedanta and Taiwanese electronic giant Foxconn jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat government to set up a Rs 1.54 lakh crore semiconductor and display manufacturing unit in the adjoining state.

Leaders of the erstwhile ruling coalition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), consisting of the Shiv Sena, the NCP and the Congress, have slammed the Shinde-led government for Maharashtra losing out on the mega project.

American comedian and TV host Jimmy Kimmel recently showered praises on Andrew Garfield while revealing how the actor turned into real-life ‘Spider-Man’ by saving him at the 2022 Emmys.

According to Media reports, Jimmy Kimmel during the opening monologue of his late-night show shared how Andrew ended up swooping in to prevent a potentially dangerous situation.

He said that at the start of the award show, there was a musical number featuring TV show theme songs. During the performance, music from ‘Game of Thrones’ came on and dancers with spears appeared.

“About halfway through the dance, the tip of one of the spears comes flying off the handle straight at us at our table,” said Jimmy, who shared an Emmys table with Andrew, Amanda Seyfried and Jeremy Allen White, as per Media reports.

He continued, “Out of nowhere, and I swear to God this happened, Andrew Garfield lunges forward and snatches it out of the air, like Spider-Man.”

“Like he might be really Spider-Man. Just as Spider-Man would have done were he in an undercover situation,” Jimmy said of the actor, who was nominated for best actor in a limited series for his role in ‘Under the Banner of Heaven’.

He then poked fun at the situation, sharing that Andrew’s “shirt came open” and his “wife almost had to be resuscitated.” Though the moment was not aired, Jimmy did manage to get a shot of Andrew and himself, along with the infamous spear.

“Well, here I am with the superhero who saved our lives. With great power, comes great reflexes” Kimmel said, as per Media reports

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has accused the opposition of making false claims over the Vedanta-Foxconn semiconductor plant going to Gujarat, and also questioned it over the Nanar refinery project.

Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress have sought to corner the state government following the announcement two days ago that the Rs 1.54 lakh crore semiconductor plant would be set up in Gujarat and not in Maharashtra as proposed earlier.

“It is disappointing that negative, false and baseless claims are being spread to gain political mileage. This is only to hide their own incompetence. I want to ask opposition leaders, who sent back Rs 3.5 lakh crore refinery from Maharashtra? My advice to these leaders is to focus on becoming competent & efficient and not negative and desperate, ” Fadnavis, who is visiting Moscow, tweeted.

He also welcomed Vedanta chairman Anil Agarwal’s tweet that Maharashtra will be key to “forward integration” to the joint venture in Gujarat.

“We welcome your decision to choose Maharashtra for forwarding integration. We will always remain competitive and extremely business-friendly,” the BJP leader added.

The Thackeray-led Shiv Sena had sided with the locals who were opposed to the refinery project that was to come up at Nanar in the coastal Ratnagiri district.

Earlier, in a series of tweets, Agarwal said Vedanta-Foxconn JV had been professionally assessing the site for the multi-billion dollar investment.

“This is a scientific and financial process that takes several years. We started this about 2 years ago,” the industrialist said.

They shortlisted Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu and had been engaging with each of these governments as well as the central government and “have received fantastic support,” he said.

“We decided on Gujarat a few months ago as they met our expectations. But in July meeting with Maharashtra leadership, they made a huge effort to outbid other states with a competitive offer. We have to start in one place and based on professional and independent advice we chose Gujarat,” the Vedanta chairman said.

The multibillion-dollar long-term investment will “change the course of Indian electronics”, he said, adding that it will create a pan-India ecosystem and “we are fully committed to investing in Maharashtra as well.”

“Maharashtra will be our key to forward integration in our Gujarat JV,” he added.

BJP offers 5 autos as ‘gift’ to Kejriwal

Delhi BJP MLAs on Thursday reached Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence here to “gift” him five autorickshaws, days after the AAP supremo had an argument with Gujarat Police personnel after they tried to stop him from travelling in a three-wheeler.

Kejriwal has a convoy of 27 vehicles but he enacted a drama in Gujarat by insisting on travelling in an autorickshaw, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said outside the chief minister’s Flagstaff Road residence.

During a two-day visit to Gujarat earlier this week, Kejriwal had dinner at an auto driver’s house in Ahmedabad on September 12. He was picked up from his five-star hotel by the auto driver.

A heated argument broke out between Kejriwal and police personnel part of his security detail after they tried to stop him from travelling in the auto citing security concerns. Later, a policeman sat beside the auto driver and two police vehicles escorted the autorickshaw.

Taking a swipe at Kejriwal, Bidhuri said, “He has a convoy of 27 vehicles and 200 security personnel have been deployed for his security and yet he enacted a drama by insisting on travelling in an autorickshaw in Gujarat. So, we are gifting him these autos to fulfil his wish of travelling in three-wheelers in Delhi.” One autorickshaw will serve as a pilot, one with the tricolour is for the chief minister, another two are for those who will escort him, and one is for his private secretary, the BJP leader said.
