Prime Minister Narendra Modi always says the right things but he is unable to covert his thoughts into actions. A marketing expert has rightly said “he cannot consummate”. We must seek assistance from Israel for adopting correct irrigation techniques. Individual farmer cannot perform this task so it has to be organized with the help of the corporate, agricultural scientists and the local administration.
Rain water harvesting techniques must be demonstrated and taught at the village “panchayat” level. Development has to begin from the grassroots level. Our farmers are hard working, competent and require support. No one is paying attention to alarmingly rising population and indiscriminate urbanization. We are mindlessly creating concrete jungles in the city.
Plenty of water is wasted in semi urban areas and big water pipes keep on leaking for days together without any repairs. “Jal nigams” work in a bureaucratic fashion. Instead of wasting money on elections, we must install solar batteries and desalination plants. Abu Dhabi used to be a concrete jungle but plenty of greenery is visible on roads due to effective waste water recycling techniques. Foreign assistance is needed here also. Thus we need foreign help for undertaking several developmental works.
In the marine field, it is necessary to impart training to electrical technicians and skilled personnel for effectively handling increasing automation work. IDEMI at Sion is performing a laudable job and the shipping companies must send more staff for undergoing training.
Political parties must become responsible. RSS says that they will undertake brain storming sessions. What else have they been doing so far? I urged them to train one hundred electricians, expert welders and plumbers which require no brain storming. However, concrete and sincere action is required for this task which they woefully lack. When I visited Lucknow in December I noticed that the “jhulas” for kids were not functioning at Nehru Vatika where they have been holding morning “ shakas” for years.
The outfit seem to be more interested in calling Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to ask why she called Arvind Kejriwal a thief etc. Some BJP workers had complained to RSS leaders that they were ignored as Kiran Bedi was made the chief ministerial candidate. They could have instead invited “ sadhvis” and “ maharajas” and do some introspection and revive the BJP. They don’t have any clue about water and power problem faced by people. AAP should start working now instead of demanding full statehood for Delhi.
Women have to face huge dilemma while dating a momma’s boy. What is momma’s boy? Ask any girl and I believe every one will provide an extraordinary explanation. Well mommas’s boys are those who are always dependent on their mothers. Is that bad? Yes it is bad as such guys will always rely on their mothers to take decision in every situation. A woman would expect her man to stand up for her, prefer her to his mother and spend more time and money on her. Many times a man may make plans in accordance to his mother’s expectations which are a big turn off for his partner. These are the main issues that women who date mama’s boys face.
Well I was watching millionaire matchmaker few nights ago. Millionaire Matchmaker is a season where the host Patti Stanger is an excellent matchmaker for those millionaires who fail to find true love. Every millionaire possesses different attitude and demands from their future partner. So they are not only being offered counselling and therapy but also advice for improving their relationship.
In India we prefer matching making directly for the marriages whereas in foreign countries couples go on a date before settling down. Well what I noticed that even those millionaire firangs are looking out for a homely girl brought up from countryside. According to me, even though tattoos are not that taboo overseas and they are well accepted but sometimes it also invites troubles too. Well according to the seasons format there will bunch of girls out which the millionaire will get to pick two girls for a mini date and later chose one out of the two for a master date.
Eventually, what I saw was one of the millionaire picks two girls. One of them is covered with tattoos but holds a Master degree in Biology and another one was a fashion designer. While he was going for a mini date with the girl having tattoo he asked her to cover up all those tattoos while meeting his mother. The girl became surprised but at the same time she agreed to do so. Eventually he ended up choosing another girl instead of her. Initially I thought that these incidents only occur in India but I became disappointed after knowing that it happens overseas too. Even though I have many tattoos hopefully I never came across such guys. Finally why make such a hue and cry over tattoos?
The second working day of the Aam Aadmi Party government at the Delhi Secretariat was virtually lost to chaos with the media boycotting a press conference following an initial decision to ban reporters inside the premises, which was, however, later on lifted in the evening. Entry for the media persons was restricted to the media centre and they were not allowed to visit the rooms of ministers and other offices inside the secretariat. Even, PIB accredited journalists were denied entry. This type of ban has never happened in the past with the media.
A press conference called by Satyendra Jain, the minister in charge of Health and Industries, was boycotted by the media. Jain, who was supposed to open the briefing, reached the venue around two hours late than the given time, and had to face the wrath of the mediapersons who demanded an explanation for the ban. The debate between the reporters and the newly-elected minister became more vociferous when Jain said that he was not interested in holding a press conference. However, he immediately apologised for the remark and said that he had no clue as to who had ordered the ban.
Later, with a view of controlling the situation, the PWD, Urban Development and Education Minister, Manish Sisodia, came to the AAP’s rescue, saying, “Access for the media wouldn’t be less, in fact, (it would be) more than what it was under the earlier government”. Sisodia held an informal meeting with the journalists and finally the issue was sorted out. Meanwhile, there was too much chaos on news channels and also outrage on social media against AAP and its government. Earlier, AAP government had claimed that the public would be allowed free entry to the secretariat without any passes. On the other hand, they banned media from entering Delhi Secretariat. This entire episode took a political turn.
I personally feel that the decision taken by Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet to ban media is not a well thought out and healthy decision. However, as I belong to the same fraternity, opposing the ban does not mean that media in India is duty bound and sincere. Most of the media houses are manipulating the news. Many political parties and its leaders are running media businesses. Reporters are paid to spy and target rival parties’ leader. Leaders are deciding media houses’ agenda. In such a situation, it becomes difficult for parties like AAP to work freely. If media keeps poking them 24/7 in their cabins and come up with all sorts of weird news then how will they perform? AAP is the only party which media tried to spoil from the beginning. Literally, at many places, media has tarnished the image of Arvind Kejriwal by calling his move as ‘drama’. I think, it’s fair if they refrain from media and ‘work hard’ on the promises they made to Delhi people. Anyhow, at the end, their work should speak louder. Moreover, at such a crucial stage, even AAP needs to be more smart and sensible while dealing with media personnel, as media has the capacity to make or break.
Nowadays, media is strengthened in the hands of corrupt politicians and mafias. They have forgotten that they are the fourth pillar of democracy and are responsible to execute their work without biasness. Biggest threat to 4th estate of democracy is from those cowards who hesitate to call spade a spade. Blackmail journalism is also another threat to media and they glorify by bargaining and twisting facts for Perks. Biggest threat to the 4th estate of democracy is from those journalists who are on Contract Coverage of political parties. They are placed to spy on rivals. The ethics of journalism is lost. Journalist remains a hyped and overvalued public relation executive in the hands of banners. Bigger the banner, greater the hypocrisy. Somewhere, the social media is playing the role of a watch dog by exposing such journalists and banners.
Transparency doesn’t mean disclosing all to media. It has been just four days since the Aam Aadmi Party government has come to power in Delhi and the path is not rosy for them. AAP government has not banned media from entering the Delhi Secretariat, its entry has been restricted to the media centre and media persons are no longer allowed to visit the rooms of ministers and other offices in the secretariat.
Reforming governance is a complex task which requires a well-balanced contemplation of many aspects in law, politics, public administration, economy, sociology etc relating to the state in a calibrated manner. Every governance reform usually fails to achieve its intended objective due to the human failure in viewing all its ramifications. An ill planned reform, if fails, will probably cause more irreversible hardships to people than not having that reform at all. Therefore, carefully planned and steady reforms are what Delhi needs, particularly after a long spell of mal-governance under Congress rule. Delhi cannot withstand another spell of mal-governance. Right now, the single most comprehensive reform Delhi needs is the full statehood as Kejriwal demands. However, to run a smooth government and maintain law and order, Delhi first needs its own police, not Lokpal. Without a good police system, Lokpal may not be able to function well.
Instead of conflicting with media, CM should concentrate on meeting the immediate demands of drinking water, subsidised electricity, women’s safety and proper shelter for the poor and middle class people. Let them perform and even media should not poke them every time. They should allow them to settle and execute the promises. If AAP fails then media knows what to do. I’m ending my note, hoping that media will become mature and will allow AAP to run an able government in future.
The party is likely to name its mouthpiece Marhatta in an attempt to lure the Maratha community.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena () which had managed to win only a single seat in the assembly election is trying to revive itself and is planning to launch its mouthpiece either the end of this year or early next year. MNS president Raj Thackeray is emulating Shiv Sena which already expresses its opinion through its mouthpiece Saamna. Political parties in Maharashtra have for years used their mouthpiece to express their ideology or attack opponents.
Earlier MNS president Raj Thackeray had released blue print for Maharashtra but if failed to impress voters. He also had a meet with party workers to discuss the future course of action to be taken to rebuild the party.
According to sources, “After the poll debacle even media has been distancing themselves from the MNS party. Thus the party can use the mouthpiece as a medium to express its views and also make clarifications about any issue. It will enable the party to prepare for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections scheduled to be held in 2017.”
Sources in the MNS disclosed that the name of the daily will be ‘Maratha’. Raj had bought this title long ago from Shishir Pai, the daughter of Acharya Prahlad Keshav Atray, a legendary Marathi writer, political leader and filmmaker. Maratha was a leading newspaper during Atray’s stewardship, but it gradually died down following his death in 1969.
The paper had played a crucial role in the Samyukta Maharashtra Chalwal (movement for united Maharashtra) campaign in the 1950s and still has a recall value in the Marathi psyche. The daily closed in the early 1970s.
“However, Atre’s daughter Shirish Pai now owns all rights to the title Daily Maratha and she is not ready to part with rights to the title and that’s why Thackeray is considering the name Marhatta,” said a person associated with Marathi publishing industry who did not wish to be named.
“The party is likely to name the mouthpiece as Marhatta in an attempt to woo the Maratha community who play a dominant role in the state politics” said sources.
When contacted, Pai confirmed that Thackeray had approached her for the rights to the title but she refused to part with them.
“Thackeray himself will be editor of the newspaper,” a senior MNS leader, who did not want to be named.
When asked about the timeline for the project, the sources said it had not been firmed up yet, but the newspaper would be out well before the BMC elections are held.
Raj Thackeray had earlier released a cartoon ridiculing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah over their party’s humiliating rout in the Delhi Assembly polls, which had invited sharp rebukes from the saffron party.
“Raj Thackerayji has found a way to hog limelight (after his party’s poor show in Maharashtra Assembly poll). His cartoon has grabbed attention. (He) should do it full-time,” Mumbai BJP President Ashish Shelar had said.
Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Wednesday reviewed issues related to empowerment of minorities in Maharashtra at a meeting with the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
“My meeting with Fadnavis was a follow-up on the issues of minorities empowerment. I had earlier held a meeting with Maharashtra Minister Eknath Khadse and the concerned officials of the minorities welfare department,” Naqvi said.
“There is a proposal to develop three Maharashtra city corporations as model corporations for minority empowerment. I had detailed discussion on this with Fadnavis, and the state government will identify these cities based on population data,” he said.
“The priority is growth and development. Fundamentalist forces and Talibani mindset are the enemies of development. These forces can be defeated only when we face them with unity,” he said.
“There are some parties, which call themselves secular and try to win votes by promising reservation for minorities. Our government is committed to all-round development of all the people and not any single section of people,” he said.
On what to expect during the budget session of Parliament beginning February 23, Naqvi said, “The session will be very important from the point of view of country’s progress. Besides the Union Budget, several key bills aimed at furthering the reforms process will be presented.”
Thane municipal commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal on Wednesday tabled Rs. 1,998 crore the draft budget for the financial year 2015-16.
The civic chief presented the budget before the standing committee chairperson Sudha Chavan.
Calling this budget as “realistic”, Jaiswal said it lays emphasis on infrastructure development in the city.
It shows an income of Rs. 1,706 from various sources, Rs. 203 crore towards grants and Rs. 89 crore as loan.
He has proposed to hike water cess, sewerage tax, development tax, LBT, advertisement taxes, Garbage tax, and rates of licences. “We had no other option but to go for a hike in various taxes,” he said.
“Through LBT, the corporation hopes to earn Rs. 650 crores, Rs. 349 crore through property tax, Rs. 350 crore development taxes, Rs. 145 crore by way of water cess,” Jaiswal added.
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has allocated Rs. 15 crore for road widening and improvement, Rs. 32.50 crore road concretisation, Rs. 14 crore for New Kalwa Bridge, among other things.
The budget has proposed a traffic management system for the city, mechanical sweeping, setting up of virtual class rooms, document journey management system.
The budget also mentioned that 5 lakh trees would be planted in the city in the coming next two years.
The RTO reserves certain licence numbers for allotting them to applicants as per its discretion and that is how actor Salman Khan was given a special VIP licence number 786, a witness on Tuesday informed a sessions court hearing the 2002 hit-and-run case.
He was explaining the procedure adopted by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) on allotment of a special VIP number to Khan whose car had rammed into a bakery in suburban Bandra on September 28, 2002, in which one person was killed and four others were injured.
The witness, an inspector in the RTO, was examined by prosecutor Pradeep Gharat after evidence was adduced in the court to show that the actor was allotted a special VIP number. The evidence also showed that the entire page in licence register was blank except for a single entry regarding issue of licence to the actor.
The inspector told the court that Assistant Regional Transport Officers had the power to reserve certain numbers and allot them to applicants on the basis of specific request made by them.
Khan too had made a request for allotment of licence number 786 to him and that was allotted to him, he told the Court of Sessions Judge D W Deshpande.
Asked whether it was mandatory that entries in the licence register should be consecutive or follow each other continuously, he replied in the negative.
“We reserve some numbers and allot them to applicants on requests made by them,” said the witness.
In the cross-examination by defence lawyer Srikant Shivade, he said there was no law which permitted allotment of VIP licence numbers to applicants and RTO used its discretion in this regard.
To another question, the inspector denied that he had fabricated evidence and was misleading the court.
“I cannot say under what circumstanes the page in the licence register in which Salman Khan’s entry appears, was written”, he said.
Replying to the defence lawyer, the witness said he did not know after how many days the entry of Khan’s licence number was written in the register. Besides, he was unaware as to who had made the entries in the register.
Earlier, the same witness had said that the actor did not possess licence in 2002 when his car met with an accident and that he had procured a new licence in 2004.
Another witness, a woman constable, told the court that she had received a letter from Bandra police station asking her to serve summons to a doctor who had conducted the post mortem of a person who was killed in the 2002 mishap involving the actor’s car.
“When I contacted Dr Sanap he told me on telephone that he was retired and settled down in USA. I then informed my senior accordingly.”
This witness was examined to bring on record that Dr. Sanap has settled abroad. However, the doctor had given a statement before a magistrate in the trial earlier and the prosecution intends to rely on this statement.
Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambanihas been conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree by his prestigious Alma Mater, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai.
Ambani is only the fourth person to have been bestowed the honour, according to a company communication to its employees.
The previous three honoured include Bharat Ratna Dr. CNR Rao, Professor George Whitesides, the most cited scientist in the world, and Padma Vibhushan Professor M M Sharma, legendary chemist and Ambani’s teacher at the institute.
“Our Chairman completed his BE in Chemical Engineering from ICT (previously known as UDCT) in 1979. Over the decades, his continued bound with his Alma Mater has strengthened,” it said.
In his brief acceptance speech, Ambani said “UDCT is what I consider home and has made me what I am today.”
“For me the 35-year journey has been a very special one. I have had the good fortune of participating hands-on in investments of over Rs. 300,000 crore of building grassroots assets in India.
“And it gives me great satisfaction that most of our major decisions were taken in consultation with Professor MM Sharma or sometimes we have stood here in his room, while taking those decisions. I consider UDCT, now ICT, to play a great role in building the Reliance of today,” he said.
A day after Yuva Sena chief Aditya Thackeray said that Maharashtra Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had given his nod for revival of the “vibrant” Mumbai nightlife, a BJP leader said the plan should not be elite-centric.
“Elite parties should not be reason to do it. What is important is finding ways to improve living conditions of the common man,” city BJP chief Ashish Shelar said.
Stating it was a “great idea to have a vibrant night life,” Shelar said “Vada pav, pav bhaji vendors should remain open. It will bring relief to the hard life of these vendors.”
“Necessary laws would be amended so that the financial capital can have a nightlife by the end of the year,” Aditya Thackeray had said.
The 1.30 AM deadline for restaurants and bars is likely to be discarded after the laws are amended, 24-year-old Aditya, the son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, said.
“Malls, clubs could stay open 24X7, along with chemists and convenience stores,” he tweeted earlier.
Non-residential areas like Kala Ghoda, Nariman Point, BKC can be special entertainment zones at night, he added.
“Eateries, Cafes, Milk Shops, Chemists and Malls and Mill-Malls (with all their establishments) can be given the option of staying open,” he had said in a tweet.
Aditya had also recently on Twitter thanked Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria “for his nod to the proposal of nightlife”.
Raigad unit of anti-corruption bureau has registered offence of possessing assets disproportionate to the known sources of income against four persons, including three officials of the town planning (TP) department.
DSP (ACB) Sunil Kalgutkar said a resident of Panvel had filed a complaint last August that officials from the TP department were demanding Rs. 3.5 lakh for a building permission and non-agricultural use permit.
ACB probe revealed that assistant director Disha Sawant, town planner Raju Pandit, and assistant town planner Tulsidas Rathod had made asked for bribe.
Further, Ramkrishna Hallale, Roopesh Gharat, Vijay Mhatre, Pradeep Mane, and Mahesh Tike, who worked as agents, told the complainant that if he paid Rs. 4.28 lakh, they would get his work done.
During the probe, the ACB officials discovered that Sawant had assets worth Rs. 1 crore 58 lakh, Pandit had assets worth Rs. 1 crore four lakh and Rathod had assets worth Rs. 38 lakh.
They could not explain the source of income, and hence offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act were filed against Sawant, her husband Prabhakar Sawant, Raju Pandit and Tulsidas Rathod. Nobody has been arrested yet.
