The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) on Friday urged the Centre to take over colleges run by the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government claiming that teachers were not getting proper salaries due to budget cuts while political activists were being appointed as head of governing bodies.

DUTA chief A K Bhagi also claimed that teachers had even held demonstrations outside Chief Minister Kejriwal’s house but to no avail. “Due to fund deficit, pay cut of teachers is happening since last two yrs in 12 colleges under Delhi government. We’ve held demonstrations outside CM’s house, gone to Deputy CM, nobody listened to us. We want the Central govt to take these colleges under its wings,” Bhagi said.

The teachers’ body took the strong stance after the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya college told staff members that a part of their salaries was being withheld due to fund-crunch. Bhagi said the 12 colleges funded by the Delhi government faced a deficit of about 85 to 90 crores. “This problem has been going on for 5 years, earlier funds were delayed, but funds are being cut for the last two years.

At present, there is a deficit of about 85 to 90 crores in 12 colleges funded by the Delhi government,” said Bhagi.

The DUTA chief claimed that “misgovernance” was rampant across several colleges being run by the Delhi government. He also accused AAP of politicising their governing bodies. “There’s misgovernance in 20 more colleges under the Delhi governemnt. Governing bodies in those colleges have been politicized, AAP workers appointed as members,” the DUTA president said.

The issue has the potential to snowball into another major confrontation between the BJP, which is in power at the Centre, and AAP, which rules Delhi. While the AAP government has repeatedly sought to project its ‘education model’ as a revolutionary one, the BJP has consistently questioned the claims.

BJP has accused AAP of corruption, improprieties and misleading people through publicity on a range of issues. The AAP has claimed that the BJP charges are politically motivated.

DUTA president Bhagi added that not only teachers but students were also facing problems as even basic amenities were not freely available on campuses. “Even the medical bills of the people are not being reimbursed, there is a problem in allowances. Not only teachers but students are also facing problems as there is no maintenance. Sometimes there is a problem of water, sometimes there is no electricity because the bills are not paid on time,” the DUTA president said.

The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan who was booked by the Uttar Pradesh government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) in 2020 while he was on his way to reach Hathras for covering the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit girl.

The top court has directed that Kappan shall be produced before the trial court within three days and he shall then be released on bail.

The court, in the hearing, observed that every person has a Right to Free Expression, and he was trying to show that the victim needed justice and raise a common voice and asked the Uttar Pradesh government if this was a crime in the eyes of the Law? It told senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani who appeared for the Uttar Pradesh government, that there were protests at India Gate in 2011 for seeking justice in the Nirbhaya gang-rape case.

The court said that sometimes protests are needed to bring a change, after the 2011 protest, there were changes in the laws. These are protests, it said.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government has opposed the bail plea filed by Kerala journalist Siddique Kappan in the Supreme Court.

Kappan was booked by the Uttar Pradesh government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), saying he has close links with the extremist organisation Popular Front of India (PFI).

Kappan has “deep links” with terror funding/ planning organisations like PFI and its student wing, Campus Front of India (CFI).

These organizations have allegedly been found to have connections with Al Qaeda-linked organisations like IHH in Turkey, the Uttar Pradesh government has said in its affidavit.

It stated, “The investigation of the case has revealed that the Petitioner has a deep nexus with the extremist PFI and its chapters including CFI, and its top leadership, in particular P Koya, ex-SIMI member, PFI Executive member, and Editor in Chief of Thejas. P Koya, along with EM Abdul Rahman, has connections and interactions with Al Qaeda linked organization IHH in Turkey.”

The High Court has not taken into account the fact that Kappan is an established journalist with over 12 years of experience, and that he is a member of both the Delhi press club and the Kerala Union of Working Journalists, said the appeal, adding that both outfits have issued certificates authenticating Kappan’s credentials as a journalist.

The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Kappan and three others on October 5, 2020, from the Mant area of Mathura.

Police had claimed that the accused were travelling to Hathras to disturb peace and harmony in the area.

The police had said it has arrested four people having links with the PFI in Mathura and identified the arrested persons as Siddique from Malappuram, Atiq-ur Rehman from Muzaffarnagar, Masood Ahmed from Bahraich, and Alam from Rampur.

Govt should focus on improving condition of govt-aided madrasas, schools: Mayawati

Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati, on Friday, lambasted the Bhartiya Janta Party over its order to survey the unrecognized Madrassas in Uttar Pradesh.

“Complaints of Muslim society being exploited, neglected and riot-victimized, etc. have been common in Congress times, yet after coming to power by doing narrow politics in the name of ‘appeasement’ by BJP, now they are being oppressed and there is (Muslim teasing). The game continues uninterrupted, which is very sad and condemnable.”, Mayawati tweeted in Hindi.

The government should focus on improving the condition of government-aided madrassas and government schools.

The BSP chief tweeted, “In this sequence, now the BJP government has a sharp eye on madrasas in UP. In the name of the madrassa survey, efforts to intervene in private madrassas running on community donations are also unfair, while the government should focus on improving the condition of government-aided madrassas and government schools”.

The Uttar Pradesh government on September 1 declared to conduct a survey in unrecognised madrassas to ascertain information on the number of students, teachers, curriculum, and its affiliation with any non-government organization.

An executive order to transfer the teaching and non-teaching staff of aided madrassas with the consent of the managers of the madrassas concerned along with the approval of the Registrar, UP Madarsa Education Council.

Another reason why the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Government of India (GoI) has taken a decision to conduct a survey of unrecognized Madrassas is to ensure the basic facilities of the students of Madrassas.

Danish Azad Ansari Minister of State for Minority Welfare, Muslim Waqf and Waqf Department has informed that the order also holds to give maternity leave and child care leave to women employees working in madrasas in the light of the rules applicable in the Department of Secondary Education and Basic Education.

CM Yogi Adityanath’s government taking a fully active approach regarding the education system in madrassas as all the District Magistrates (DMs) have been issued instructions regarding the survey.

Meanwhile, on September 6, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, a leading body of Islamic scholars held a meeting where it decided to back the Yogi Adityanath government’s decision to survey unrecognized madrasas in Uttar Pradesh, but not with force.

Expressing concerns over the actions taken against madrasas in Assam, Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani said, “You saw what happened in Assam. It is illegal if that method is taken up. We will send an application to concerned authorities, seeking time to meet them”.

The Assam government had demolished a Madarsa alleged to be involved in anti-national activities after it was found to be on government land in the Barpeta area.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that the place is involved in anti-national activities and Jihadi outfits.

Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani (National President, Jamiat Ulama-E-Hind) in a press conference, had said, “Today madrasas are not looked at in a good way. I appeal to the government to understand us. We will always follow our duty. We are always ready to talk but not with force. We should be given time and we are ready to meet with the concerned authorities.”

Moreover, it has been ordered that in case of a disputed management committee or in case of the death of any employee in an aided Madrassas, a post-facto approval for appointment by the principal Madrassas and District Minority Welfare Officer in the dependent quota of the deceased and the existence of a valid management committee has to be sought.

Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly.”

Actor Helen Mirren stated, “I’m mourning along with the rest of my country, the passing of a great Queen. I’m proud to call myself of the Elizabethan age. With a heavy heart, I say it’s devastating the thought of England without Queen Elizabeth II.”

Dear Queen Elizabeth, you remain in the hearts of people forever

Dear Queen Elizabeth, you remain in the hearts of people forever 8

She was a very dignified and beautiful royal woman. Her calmness was unique, behind her quiet smile and proper voice, there is a shy lady who loves animals and the countryside. The Queen is beautiful in how she possesses riches while enjoying the simple things in life like walking with her dogs or driving her own vehicle, riding the horse. She had her own way of humble living. She always had lovely, flashing eyes, and now, as a senior woman of 96, she carried herself well. She appears to keep her hair and makeup simple. She has the smooth skin characteristic of British women. It takes effort and daily commitment to keep oneself looking healthy and presentable after 80. It might be tempting to sit around eating chocolates, but she seems to make the effort to go outside and move.

Her self-presentation in public was powerfully elegant and can even be robust at times, which is something beautiful knowing that she has the aches, pains, and limitations that all of us have when we reach old age—if not middle age. Queen Elizabeth was always dedicated to her people and job as monarch. Since declaring before the world on her 21st birthday that she would serve till the end of her life with the help of her people. On 9th of September last year, she became the longest reigning British monarch ever, some great achievement for her. I don’t think anyone in Britain had a work ethic like Her Majesty. She, even at the old age of 96, was bustling with robustness, zeal, and drive. She never actively sought out to become Queen for ulterior, selfish motives, rather royalty was thrusted upon her.

The adage is that Princes are born while Dukes are made. She was a hybrid of both. She never sought the monarchy, engulfed with its Royalty and riches, but rather inherited it. She has however crafted it in her own right, meaning she really works for it and earns her status. Queen Elizabeth uses to rise early and was busy working from daybreak up until past sundown. Only hard-working people can age like she has, and she was a very, very hard-working woman. Her Majesty, aside from being the monarch of the nation which has culturally influenced the globe like no other nation in the world has, is deeply nonpartisan and apolitical.

Considering how influential Britain historically was and still is, both within its historical global context, as well as economic, political, legal, and most significantly, cultural. This is strikingly unusual. Queen Elizabeth also doesn’t really speak much in the public. Her Uncle Edward’s abdication from the throne to marry a twice-divorced woman, Wallis Simpson, is what led to Princess Elizabeth becoming Queen Elizabeth II on the death of her father, King George VI, in February 1952 when she was only 25 years old. She was a mechanic during WWII. Prince Philip appears to be the only man she ever loved. She met him when she was 13 and he was 18.

When Queen Elizabeth became Queen, Prince Philip had to give up his naval career. Queen Elizabeth was very close to her parents and her younger sister, Margaret. Her mother had a lot of control over her life even after she became Queen. Queen Elizabeth knew her mother, Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, lived a very extravagant lifestyle but she indulged her and knew she couldn’t change her. Her mother lived to be a hundred years of age. The Queen loves dogs and horses. She got her first corgi named Susan about age 18. She finds her animals easier to communicate with than her own children. She couldn’t spend much time with Prince Charles and Princess Anne when they were young but she spent much more time with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

The Queen said Prince Andrew was such a beautiful baby and everyone was going to spoil him. Prince Philip spent more time with Prince Edward and he may have been the first child he was in the room with when the Queen gave birth. The Queen once said in interview that Prince Andrew was a terror as a child since he liked to play pranks on family members and staff. The Queen tried to warn Princess Diana during the time of her marital problems to be careful as there are powerful men out there that we know nothing about.

Princess Diana did not take her advice and paid with it with her life. The queen is the only female member of the British royal family to serve in WWII. She was only 18 when she joined the service. Furthermore, she was a driver for the military truck and used to change the wheels. She also drove ambulances. She has visited more than 115 countries without a passport. However, other Royal members do need to have a passport. She was one unique human being and royal queen, no one can ever replace her persona.

A 4-year-old child is feared to have been washed away into a drain in Thane, due to a heavy downpour on Thursday. The police and disaster management have been carrying out the search and rescue operation.

On Thursday evening, water flowing from Kalwa hill and also after a heavy downpour caused waterlogging in the slums of Bhaskar Nagar in the Kalwa area.

The strong waterflow is feared to have swept the 4-year-old child, named Aditya Maurya into the drain at the compound.

After the police were informed about the incident, police along with the Disaster Management team reached the affected slum. They have conducted enquiries from the locals, but no one has seen the boy being flown in water.

But since the child is not with his family, there is a huge probability that the child might have got swept in the water, if he had stepped out of his house.

The search operation is underway which started on Thursday, but had to be stopped at night.

The search operation again resumed today.

Actor Anushka Sharma is a happy and proud wife as her husband Virat Kohli completed his 71st century in international cricket on Thursday in the Asia Cup 2022. Taking to Instagram, the ‘Sultan’ actor dropped pictures of her hubby Virat from the match along with a sweet caption. She wrote, “Forever with you through any and everything,” with a heart emoji

In the series of pictures, Virat was seen celebrating his century during the match. As soon as the pictures were posted, the couple’s friends chimed into the comment section.

Star Indian batter Virat Kohli completed his much-anticipated 71st international century and powered India to a massive 212/2 in their 20 overs during their last Super Four clash against Afghanistan at the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. After his 71st century in international cricket, Virat Kohli dedicated his ton to his wife and their daughter.

“Last two and a half years have taught me a lot. I am going to turn 34 in a month. So those angry celebrations are a thing of the past. Actually, I was shocked. This is the last format I thought. It was an accumulation of a lot of things. The team has been open and helpful. I know there was a lot of stuff going outside,” said Virat after his innings to broadcasters.

“And I kissed my ring. You see me standing here because one person has put things in perspective for me. That’s Anushka. This hundred is for her and for our little daughter Vamika as well. When you have someone next to you having conversations putting things in perspective, like Anushka has been… when I came back I was not desperate. Six weeks off I was refreshed. I realised how tired I was. Competitiveness doesn’t allow it, but this break allowed me enjoy the game again,” he added.

Charles had become King Charles III

King Charles remained at the Balmoral Castle, the Queen’s summer residence in Scotland, with his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, and addressed Britain. Condolences poured in from around the world following the demise of the 96-year-old monarch.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered her as a “stalwart of our times”, saying she “provided inspiring leadership to her nation and people” and “personified dignity and decency in public life”. The change happened after seven decades, and it’s still not clear when his coronation will take place as Britain is observing the 10-day mourning period. But nearly 70 years ago, in 1953, Charles was four years old and attended coronation of his mother who acceded to the throne a year ago at the age of 25.

Mumbai’s famed dabbawalas on Friday said they were grieving with the royal family and people all over the world after the demise of Queen Elizabeth. “On behalf of all the dabbawalas of Mumbai, I pay my heartfelt condolences to the royal family,” said Raghunath Medge, an office bearer of the Nutan Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Association. Medge and another association office-bearer Sopan Mare attended the royal wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles in April 2005.

The Queen was not keeping well of late and was under medical supervision as doctors were “concerned for Her Majesty’s health”. Buckingham palace announced she died at Balmoral Castle where members of the royal family had rushed to her side after her health took a turn for the worse. The Queen had been suffering from what Buckingham Palace called “episodic mobility problems” since the end of last year. After her coffin is brought back to London, the Queen will lie in state in Westminster Hall for about four days before her funeral.
