Decentralisation of power

Narendra Modi should demonstrate that he believes in decentralizing power by enlisting co-operation of others working for his party. Modi must induct Baba Ramdev as Health minister, Kiran Bedi as Home Minister, Subramanian Swamy as External Affairs Minister into his cabinet. He must select one of our renowned industrialists ( he must decide fast) for becoming industries minister. General VK Singh may be inducted into the Defence Ministry but let us wait for some other deserving candidates name to crop up. The only point which has worked against him is the controversy pertaining to his date of birth. He has been eyeing for a post too quickly.

RK Singh should be ousted from BJP or he must not be offered a plum post as he has already started badmouthing his boss whom he was serving till recently. If Singh had differences, he should have sought a transfer. It’s not about giving credit to Sushilkumar Shinde, who according to me is the worst home minister with dubious loyalty. He only wants to go to Rashtrapati Bhawan therefore he is trying to remain in good books of Sharad Pawar. It is our misfortune that he is continuing with the post of home minister. Baba Ramdev cannot be inducted into Finance Ministry because that is not his core competency, inspite of him having very radical views on tax reforms.

Salman Khan has rightly said that Modi is a good man. Rahul Gandhi had indirectly compared Modi with Aurangzeb which is unjustified. He will be declared as the Congress party’s prime ministerial candidate. Rahul is young and clean but he must refrain from criticizing any one and solely concentrate on implementation of policies and programmes. He can announce the formation of Rahul Brigade and induct youth to work for the sake of nation’s development. Here he can seek the assistance of Priyanka Gandhi for inducting good and strong girls. This brigade (or give another name) is to be trained in disaster management, fire fighting techniques and first aid techniques.

I was so impressed watching our “jawans “of the army rigorously trained in difficult combats. We need a very well trained cadre of youth who will rise to any calamity with power in biceps, smile on face and gold in heart. In the past, I wrote about creating a force of Muslim young girls, burka clad, only eyes visible but with power of a tigress whizzing past on motor cycles assisting the police in maintaining law and order. It will be a force to reckon with and suitable Urdu or Arabic name to match should be provided.

Mulla, Pandit to
Influence ‘aam aadmi’

Mulla-Pandit-InfluenceThe Aam Aadmi Party which had conducted a successful membership drive across India is now adopting a unique strategy to enroll new members. Priests from temples are joining AAP and convincing their disciples to join the party. The party already is aiming big and plans to induct 1 crore people by January, 26. It has already waived Rs 10 membership fee charged for enrolling people.

Ram Sevak Tiwari, a priest from Vakola temple who had joined AAP has already started convincing his disciples to join the party. Ram Sevak would explain in detail about the functioning of AAP and urge them to get registered.

The party had started enrolling people visiting temple two days back. Till date more than 400 people have registered their names and more than thousand people are expected to enroll within a week.

Ram Sevak Tiwari, a priest from Kalina said, “I am hugely influenced by Arvind Kejriwal and his performance. The common man is already fed up with rising corruption and now wants change. Hence I am supporting AAP and want the party to win the general election so that it can work for the welfare of the common man. I also explained to people about the ideology of AAP. I am not forcing them to join the party.”

Dharmedra Singh, a member of the temple said, “Everyone wants a change in governance and is hoping that Arvind Kejriwal will root out corruption from the society. I want all the devotees visiting the temple to become member of AAP.”

Sayad Adam, who enrolled with AAP after visiting temple said, “AAP is a honest party and has immense potential to grow in future. If the party comes to power in the centre then it will root out corruption which will pave way for India’s development. Since I have registered my name, I expect others to do so.”

Abdul Karim, a devotee from Kalina said, “Most of political parties are indulging in caste based politics and appeasing minorities. We want clean governance and only AAP can deliver it.”

Gulam Mohammad, another disciple from Vakola said, “We have full faith in Arvind Kejriwal and his party. I will try my best to enroll more members in AAP.”

The membership drive is soon expected to begin in other temples in the city too. More and more youth are coming forward to join the party and are also enrolling people.

Deora seeks Kharge’s intervention over safety on Mumbai locals

Deora-Kharge-interventionAlarmed at a 16-year-old girl losing her arms after she slipped from a crowded Mumbai local at suburban Ghatkopar station, Union Minister Milind Deora has urged the Railway Ministry to urgently look into safety of train commuters and take strong measures to prevent such mishaps.

Deora, an MP from Mumbai South constituency, in a letter to Rail Minister Malikarjun Kharge, raised the issue of lack of passenger safety on locals and demanded that top priority be accorded to it.

“As you may be aware, travelling in local trains in Mumbai during peak hours is already fraught with risk due to the unmanageable rush of lakhs of daily commuters attempting to board or alight from the trains.

The huge gap between the platform and the footboard of the train makes the process even more risky and there are already several tragic instances of people losing life and limb on this account,” Deora said in the letter dated January 13.

“I am appalled at the indifferent attitude of the Railway authorities where by putting the lives of lakhs of commuters using these trains day in and day out,” he said.

Deora also asked Kharge to look into the matter “seriously” and initiate strong and quick measures to ensure travel safety on local trains.

“As observed by the Honourable Court, I urge upon you to take steps urgently to prevent recurring of such incidents in future,” he added.

Later talking to reporters he said, “The Railways should launch a campaign on the safety of commuters. The issue should be looked into holistically. Rail safety is an important issue in Mumbai which is very crowded.”

Western and Central railway should see how to launch the safety campaign as it will help in saving lives of commuters, he said.

Early this week, college student Monica More lost both her arms after slipping from the train at Ghatkopar and falling in the gap between the platform and footboard onto the tracks.

Wait till CBI probe is over: HC to activists in Adarsh case

adarshThe Bombay High Court on Wednesday said if the CBI was still investigating benami transactions in the Adarsh housing society case then activists who have filed petitions should wait for the outcome of the probe.

Social activist Pravin Wategaonkar, who has filed a public interest litigation seeking CBI to probe against Union Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Shivajirao Patil-Nilangekar, today mentioned his petition before the High Court and sought urgent hearing of the case.

Wategaonkar told a division bench of Justices N H Patil and V L Achiliya that the Maharashtra government has partly accepted the findings submitted by a judicial inquiry commission which probed into the Adarsh case and hence CBI should also be directed to look into the findings.

“The commission in its report has named several bureaucrats and ministers for alleged favouritism towards the society. CBI should look into these aspects,” Wategaonkar said.

CBI counsel Hiten Venegaonkar told the court that while investigation into the scam is complete and a chargesheet has been filed, probe into benami transactions is still on and those details cannot be disclosed.

“When investigation is still on you (petitioner) have to wait for the outcome,” Justice Patil said.

Wategaonkar, however, alleged that the CBI was suppressing certain facts from the court regarding Patil-Nilangekar.

Following this, the court agreed to hear one application filed by Wategaonkar seeking a direction to CBI to make Patil-Nilangekar an accused in the case on January 23.

The application alleged that Patil during his tenure as state revenue minister granted certain approvals to the society illegally. In return, his son-in-law was allotted a flat in the plush high rise in south Mumbai.

He was also a pioneer of the Dalit literature movement known for its deep concern for the under-privileged.

The Padma Shri awardee also has a medical history of myasthenia gravis which is one of the lesser known auto-immune disorders.

Ashok Chavan set to be let off the hook in Adarsh scam

ashok-chavanMaharashtra former chief minister Ashok Chavan, charge-sheeted in the Adarsh scam, on Wednesday looked set to be let off the hook, with the CBI moving a special court seeking approval to drop his name as an accused in the case following governor’s refusal to sanction his prosecution.

Special Public Prosecutor Bharat Badami filed an application before CBI court judge S G Dighe requesting him to allow it to remove Chavan’s name from the list of 13 accused charge-sheeted in the case, citing the governor’s decision, which it said was “non-appealable”.

The court reserved its order on the application for Saturday.

Acceptance of CBI’s plea by the court would come as a huge relief for both Congress and Chavan, the only former chief minister to have been made accused in the case though two of his predecessors–Vilasrao Deshmukh and Sushilkumar Shinde– were also under the lens. Deshmukh has since died.

A judicial commission of inquiry set up by the state government had indicted all three for “blatant violations” of statutory provisions in granting various clearances to the scam-tainted Adarsh housing society.

The judicial panel’s report had said, “There was certainly a nexus between the acts of Chavan and benefits derived by his close relatives. The membership process clearly indicates that grant of requisite permission by Chavan was by way of quid pro quo.”

Chavan (55), who had to step down as chief minister after the scam surfaced, had challenged his inclusion in the charge sheet on the ground that no sanction for prosecution had been obtained from the governor. The CBI had maintained that since he was a former chief minister at the time of being charge-sheeted, gubernatorial approval was not required.

The court had, however, directed the agency to get sanction for Chavan’s prosecution which was denied by Governor K Sankaranarayanan, apparently leaving CBI with little choice but to close the case against him.

CBI had alleged in its charge sheet that Chavan had increased the floor space index of the controversial Adarsh society in return for flats for his relatives. Chavan as revenue minister had also asked the housing society to include 40 per cent members from civilian category despite it being originally meant only for war veterans, CBI had alleged, claiming Chavan played a key role in the scam.

Chavan’s mother-in-law Bhagvati Sharma, sister-in-law Seema Sharma and father-in-law?s brother Madanlal Sharma have flats in the society. All of them have been held ineligible by the judicial panel to own flats in the society.

In its charge sheet filed by July 2012, CBI had accused Chavan and 12 others of criminal conspiracy, cheating and criminal misconduct under Indian Penal Code and also under Prevention of Corruption Act. The court is, however, yet to take cognizance of the charge sheet.
