Is Modi's Feku label well-deserved? 2

As usual when Narendra Modi failed to talk about his government’s achievement, he resorted to a brutal attack on the Congress and the Gandhi’s in parliament today. Over the last few days, one opposition MP after another attacked the Centre on these issues, while the Union ministers could not come up with considerable rejoinders. As has happened before in such circumstances, it appears that the BJP’s last-minute resort was to fall back on Modi’s talent of skilfully evading important concerns by indulging in rhetorical aerobics, even as his speech failed to concretely address any of the opposition’s questions.

However, his speech contained more condemnation and bouts on the Congress and previous governments it steered. The political messaging was parallel to his poignant election speeches, rather than including any concrete evidence to counter the opposition’s allegations against his government. In 2014 BJP came to power due to anger against Congress, but not because of the merits of BJP. After seven and half years of ruling still they are trying to blame Congress but are hardly able to display their merits.

Priyanka Gandhi has already posed a threat to BJP in Uttar Pradesh. Somehow Congress across India is regaining its popularity and the frustration was very much evident in Modi’s speech.  He said the Congress’s problem is it has never thought beyond its dynasty, but conveniently ignored the nepotism in BJP. Maybe the recent firebrand speech of Rahul Gandhi might have devastated him. The biggest threats to democracy are the liars in power corridors but not the dynasty that has shed the blood for India.

The PM must have forgotten the sponsored event of stadium launch in Gujarat that had put Mumbai in miserable conditions due to thousands of attendees coming across the world but no one was put through medical examination. Mumbai being the financial heart of the country, a lot of people travel in and out of the country and this further increased the risk of COVID spread. Besides the first case of Corona virus was detected in Gujarat was in January 2020 and the stadium inauguration event was held in February, in the same Gujarat state. Mumbai is a travel hub and in a way it’s an important gateway, people land here and go to nearby areas such as Gujarat, Goa, Rajasthan etc.

No other city in India has such a large population living under such extreme conditions, and that’s why the virus spread faster here, point to be noted the efforts made by Maharashtra government and civic authorities were lauded by the Supreme Court.  The state government took all the possible precautionary measures to stop the further spread. The BJP in opposition tried creating fear and unrest among people, by circulating horrible videos on social media. When the first COVID case was dictated in Kerala, Rahul Gandhi cautioned Indian authorities, but by calling him Pappu, the central government conveniently ignored the consequences.

The migrants left Mumbai because they were instigated and panicked by the IT cell propaganda. There was enormous funds flowing in PM care, instead of serving all the sections of people Pm was busy in photo-shooting his new bungalow and those fancy peacocks. Indians were made to clap and tap with that false claim of controlling COVID in 45 days. Modi is Prime minister of India; he should not be in a campaign mode always by putting all culpabilities at opposition. He needs to be more responsible and accountable.  India Today survey published a report stating Narendra Modi’s popularity fell from 66% to 24% in 2021, within one year and the primary reason for the fall in ratings was attributed by respondents to the handling of the Covid-19 crisis. Maharashtra Government rather gained world attention while smartly dealing with Pandemic.

Time and again, our PM Modi restored to lies and that is the reason he was coined as Feku means a braggart who makes false claims. He’s so infatuated with himself that he doesn’t see reality. He began with the Make in India hook and started believing that India is becoming a manufacturing giant. One fine day he realized that his claims are meaningless and then he never spoke about Make in India. Perhaps the words rang hollow to his ears. Modi electrified India when he lauded about eradicating open Defecation (OD) .It was an issue no PM had even mentioned. So when Modi spoke against it, India saw him as a Messiah. Alas, Modi’s passionate words remained what they were. He didn’t have the application to follow through. Today Modi’s anti-OD campaign is seen as a farce. He says his anti-OD call led to 85 million new toilets being built in rural India. Some media reports show these toilets are being used as animal fodder storages due to lack of drainage system and inadequate water supply. The result is Modi no longer mentions OD any more. He understood that his anti-OD campaign had flopped utterly.

Modi’s slogan of a Cashless India after his Demonetization blunder of November 2016, literally slew many citizens and the business opportunities. He started boasting of how he had straightened out rich Indians by lining them outside banks for new currency notes. He bragged he was turning India into a cashless paradise where all transactions would become electronic. With a customer paying a vegetable-seller with the click of a PayTM button. No black money returned from so-called Swiss banks or from corrupt Indians, or clogged the printing of fake currency. He said he was making India cashless. But 99.3% of the demonetized currency came back into circulation. Modi talked of a Cashless India after his disastrous Demonetization. The reality is that there’s more Cash in Circulation today than ever before. Corruption has doubled with 2000 notes; no corrupt officers are ready to settle on lower notes. Earlier this denomination was 1000, still breathable for the public. Money laundering also became easy with 2000 notes, and Havala businesses prospered.

The Modi government has made laying an art form. This non-stop obvious deceitfulness was described by George Orwell as doublethink: “Every message from the extremely repressive leadership reverses the truth. Officials repeat ‘war is peace’ and ‘freedom is slavery,’ for example. The Ministry of Truth spreads lies. The Ministry of Love tortures lovers.” Modi knows quite well how to manipulate people of India, unfortunately people are more attracted to glamour and he was giving them those fancy baits.

Since 2013 he has been lingering around Jawaharlal Nehru to hide his own falsehood. He tried becoming Cha-cha of children but again failed, when school children were harassed by the teachers in this forcible event on 14th November.  Modi’s visible frustration was against Rahul Gandhi, who had attacked the government last week. Whenever he had to deal with the awkwardness of his own status, he indulged in history by attacking freedom fighters. His lies were very obvious, when someone is caught lying they can’t be considered credible anymore. What’s happening here is the plain assertion of power. Our politics has become a contest of who gets to lie and get away with it and who will have to go on a back-foot when their lives are caught. Weak opposition, mouthpiece media, social media manipulation, and Modi’s personality cult that makes his voters repose great faith in him, but now the voters are somewhat understanding that they were fooled.

Congress Party is the ultimate political establishment — it’s the Gandhi family party and has controlled India’s government for most of its history since breaking from British rule. During 2013, Anna Hazare’s agitation, Baba Ramdev’s false promises, Hindu Khatreme, and Shri Shri Ravi Shankar’s 40 rupees leter petrol and above all 1500000 rupees deposit in each bank jumla has worked from BJP. Indians voted out the Congress Party because they were fed up with its economic mismanagement and corruption, and voted in Modi because they thought he would change things. But the Indian government is one of the world’s largest bureaucracies and it is dealing with tremendous and very basic problems at every level that are enormous challenges for India. One needs experience and wisdom to execute the same. A fancy false promise leads it nowhere.

Hindu nationalism is another drive of right-wing nationalism and social conservatism combined with a Hindu political identity so strong that its ultimate effect has been described as, if not Hindu supremacy, then Hindu hegemony to the potential detriment of the 20 percent of Indians who are not Hindu. That often means Muslims. The lure of Hindutva is making people blind and vile.

Moral of the story, Modi should realise that the people have trusted his promises of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas”, “Band Karo Nari Par War”, and “Beti Bachao, Beto Padhao”. His grand ideas don’t become reality just because he announced them.  His claims of make in India was the biggest scam ever, manufacturing doesn’t mean making a dhokla. After nearly seven years of your pompous rule, we are Number One laggards in manufacturing. In short, Chinese goods have excelled. Our goods are lousy, which is why India buys five times more goods from China than China buys from us. Not only our productivity but our borders are also encroached by China.

Countless farmers, Jawans, students lost their lives in adamant dissertations of the Modi government. There was never such an odious environment in India. The previous governments were never so high on social destructions. All those policies, be it Aadhar card or demonetisation opposed by BJP in opposition were implemented by BJP in power. They actually had no blueprint of their ruling or policy making, but name changing of Congresses old policies and re-introducing.  Dear Modi ji, people of India want to see you as PM of India the most and campaigner of BJP the least.

AAP opposes the construction of RTO Shed in Mumbai’s Aarey

The Aam Aadmi Party Mumbai on Monday expressed its vehement opposition to the construction of an RTO shed in the Aarey forests, for which a tender notice has been issued by the Public Works Department (Tender Notice no. 22 for 2021-22). The Aarey forest is the shared natural heritage of 1.5 crores Mumbaikars.

Not only is Aarey the largest catchment area for groundwater percolation in Mumbai, but also is the source of two of Mumbai’s rivers – namely, the Oshiwara and the Mithi. It is also a hotspot teeming with biodiversity and Schedule 2 species as defined in the Wildlife Act 1972. It may be recalled that the Aarey movement was a city-wide movement having support from across the spectrum. The Aam Aadmi Party has been at the forefront of the movement to save the forest.

The Office of Executive Engineer, PWD Special Projects division, Public Works Department, Government of Maharashtra has invited tenders through Notice No. 22 for 2021-22, for an RTO shed to be constructed in Aarey. As mentioned, Aarey is a designated forest, an environmentally sensitive zone, and a green buffer zone. The above-mentioned construction activity is simply impermissible given the sensitive ecology of the area.

“Mumbai has ample land which can be used for whatever purposes the government deems fit; we cannot allow the government to encroach on the forest land for any purposes whatsoever. We urge the Chief Minister and the Maharashtra Government to withdraw the tender to construct the RTO shed at the earliest, failing which, we will be compelled to start an on-ground agitation,” said Preeti Sharma Menon, National Executive Member of AAP.

Evil eyes around argued Shah Rukh Khan's prayers for Lata Di 5

People are so wicked and soaked with hate against a particular community that they created controversy out of Shah Rukh khan’s prayers. A video clip of actor Shah Rukh offering prayers for Lata Mangeshkar has gone viral for erroneous reasons. Sudarshan news channel came up rabble-rousing about some so-called “Spit Jihad”. Many on social media shared this video, claiming that Khan spat after reciting prayers.

Many users on social media made this video viral by attacking Khan. This was also reported by the mainstream media which can be seen here and here. To defend the actor’s gesture, some netizens even shared a clip from Khan’s film “My Name is Khan”, where he can be seen blowing air on his son in the movie. Shah Rukh was surely not spitting, this is a typical Muslim tradition of blowing air into something after reciting the holy verses. This is called Ruqyah in Arabic and Dum in Urdu.

When a Muslim attends the funeral of someone close, they offer Namaz and then blow in the air like (SRK did). This is his way of saying the final goodbye. This should not be viewed in the wrong way. Several others tweeted the video saying that what Shah Rukh did is an act of faith. Congress leaders BV Srinivas and Urmila Matondkar, an actor and Bollywood filmmaker Priya Gupta defended Shah Rukh. But hate-mongering clan was not ready to settle on these simple explanations, some of the BJP leaders took a chance to make it Hindu-Muslim.

Shah Rukh Khan made a rare appearance on Sunday, as he attended Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral at Shivaji Park ground in Mumbai. The actor arrived much in advance and patiently waited to pay his last respects to the singing legend. Being extremely religious, Shah Rukh Khan offered a dua for Lata Mangeshkar. For a split second he removed his mask and did a facial gesture, which several ill-informed netizens deemed as ‘spitting’.

He raises his hands to the chest and asks Allah for whatever is required. This prayer can be anything, whether it is for the welfare of someone or for the job or for the peace of the soul. We have seen such pictures in movies. Shah Rukh did the same thing near the body of Lata Mangeshkar. Like millions of his fans, he prayed for her soul to rest in peace. When Shah Rukh was praying with his hands raised, he had a black mask on his face. He prayed for about 12 seconds, took off his mask and bowed slightly and blew in the air towards Lata Didi’s mortal body.

Among those sharing the false and misleading claims included Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Haryana IT cell in-charge Arun Yadav, and Hindi news channel Sudarshan News that is notorious for peddling misinformation and communally charged information. Actor Shah Rukh Khan’s fans rushed to defend him online after questions were raised against him.

Shah Rukh Khan and his manager Pooja Dadlani made an appearance at singer Lata Mangeshkar’s funeral practicing their own religious theories. While Pooja prayed with folded hands, Shah Rukh said a prayer with his hands raised and then blew his blessings on Lata. The ‘Queen of Melody’ Lata Mangeshkar, aged 92, breathed her last in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Everyone was mourning her death but right wingers were bust spreading hate across social media.

Her last rites were performed at Shivaji Park, Mumbai with full state honours. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and other celebs who paid their last respects to the mortal remains of the singing icon. Photos from the funeral ceremony had gone viral in which Shah Rukh was seen offering dua alongside his manager Pooja Dadlani who joined hands in prayer. While the picture received much love from the netizens, another moment in which Shah Rukh allegedly “spat” on Lata Mangeshkar’s mortal remains irked many netizens.

The central government announced two days of state mourning – February 6 and 7. During this time, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across India in honour of Lata Mangeshkar. And here some of our section is busy in hate-mongering.

My humble lifetime gratitude for Lata Di

My humble lifetime gratitude for Lata Di 7

Last year it was the Newsmakers Achievers Award, and we wanted to pay our gratitude to Babasaheb Purandare and Lata Didi. I was really hesitant to call the number that I had. To my surprise, when I called her number Lata Mangeshkar ji’s niece, Rachna Shah picked up the call and she was so humble in her approach that I really could not believe for a moment that I was talking to Lata Ji’s family member. She was very warm and considerate.

I expressed my wish, and she asked for more details. That is how Lata di gave her consent to receive “Newsmakers Achievers Award 2021- Lifetime”. My happiness knew no bounds; I was eagerly waiting for days to pass. Trust me, for a few days I was just a lost person.

I shared my happiness with my team but they hardly believed, imagine a legendary singer who has got all the highest civilian awards. Lata Di hailed as one of Indian cinema’s iconic singers, Mangeshkar received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in the year 2001. She is also the recipient of several other awards, including the Padma Bhushan, the Padma Vibhushan and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and multiple National Film Awards.

She is the most worshipped person in our country; she could have easily said no to us. But appreciation needs a lot of thoughtfulness for life; we wanted to say thanks to her through this award. Our intentions were poise, maybe it’s her understanding towards her fans and especially our generation, she stood by us in all her capacities. I have no words to express Rachna Shah’s ease, and the way she fulfilled the entire event. Perhaps, this is what imbibing values and this is what samskaras are all about. No matter how tall their status is, they are still approachable.

Lata Di has ruled the hearts of the people with utmost love and acclaim. The accomplishments never changed her. Such humble soles are rarest of the rare. The award event was nearing and Rachna made me talk to Lata Di, at that moment the sky was looking small to me. Her melodious voice, and especially when she said Vaidehi, melted my heart. That was the ultimate nirvana of life. Lata di expressed her regrets for not attending the event due to her ill health. But she sent a beautiful audio message to play in the award event. When her voice was played, Babasaheb was wiping his tears; the Honorable governor was just amazed and calm. For a few moments, the hall was pin-drop silence. I think we all felt her presence there.  Some voices are so powerful that they remain in your hearts and mind forever. Her song “Meri awaz hi pehchan hai” is very true in her regard.

My impulse or you can call it the strongest urge to meet Lata di knew no limits. I wanted to greet her and just seek blessings for life, I wanted to tell her how much I feel for her, and I know each of her fans thinks the same. She is our melody queen, thousands of minds solaced with her beautiful songs. She played magic with her vocals. For decades she served the Indian music industry.  She was always in my prayers. I was waiting to hear about her good health and returning back to normal life.

When she got admitted to hospital, my heart broke. Whenever there were rumors, I literally used to get shattered and not only that, the idea of losing her was tearing me apart. I landed up disturbing many of her known people, just to know how she is doing.

Finally, that painful day arrived, and she bid good bye to all of us. My inconsolable pain was not allowing me to settle, meanwhile one song was played on the TV channel after her funeral….

Huh… we need to accept the fact that life is perishable,

We have to bid them send off, keeping them in our hearts.

Rest in peace, Lata Di!

The President and the Prime Minister led the tributes for Mangeshkar who spent close to a month in the hospital before her demise.

”Lata-ji’s demise is heart-breaking for me, as it is for millions the world over. In her vast range of songs, rendering the essence and beauty of India, generations found expression of their inner-most emotions. A Bharat Ratna, Lata-ji’s accomplishments will remain incomparable,” President Kovind wrote on Twitter along with a photo with the veteran playback singer.

”An artist born but once in centuries, Lata-didi was an exceptional human being, full of warmth, as I found whenever I met her… My condolences to her family and admirers everywhere,” he said in another post.

PM Modi also shared a photo with Mangeshkar and said the legendary singer’s demise leaves ”a void that can’t be filled”.

”I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerise people,” he wrote.

”Lata Didi’s songs brought out a variety of emotions. She closely witnessed the transitions of the Indian film world for decades. Beyond films, she was always passionate about India’s growth. She always wanted to see a strong and developed India.” In another post, PM Modi said he spoke with Mangeshkar’s family and expressed his condolences.

”I consider it my honour that I have always received immense affection from Lata Didi. My interactions with her will remain unforgettable. I grieve with my fellow Indians on the passing away of Lata Didi,” he said.

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also tweeted his condolences, saying that he is ”extremely saddened” by Mangeshkar’s death.

”India has lost its voice in the death of Lata ji, who has enthralled music lovers in India & across the globe with her mellifluous & sublime voice for many decades,” he added.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who visited south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital earlier in the morning, said that Mangeshkar was ”the pride of our nation”.

”She took the country to greater heights, all over the world with her singing. Her voice was magical. Her loss is humungous, it’s a void for all of us. I visited the hospital and had her darshan. It’s the end of an era,” Gadkari told reporters.

From the film industry, actors Shabana Azmi, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and filmmaker Hansal Mehta paid tributes to the singer.

Calling Mangeshkar India’s national treasure, Azmi said her voice lit up our lives, gave us solace when we were sad, gave strength when we were low”.

”’Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hain, Gar Yaad Rahe’… And how can one forget such a voice! Deeply saddened by the passing away of Lata Mangeshkar ji, my sincere condolences and prayers,” Kumar tweeted.

Devgn wrote, ”An icon forever. I will always savour the legacy of her songs. How fortunate were we to have grown up listening to Lataji’s songs. Om Shanti. My deepest condolences to the Mangeshkar family.” Mehta said ”the heavens are blessed” to be in the company of the Nightingale of India. ”The nightingale moves on. The heavens are blessed. There will never be another Lataji. Om Shanti,” Mehta tweeted.

Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle said ”one of the greatest Indian has left us” today.

”Thank you for the songs, the memories, the pride we felt because of you. #LataMangeshkar,” he tweeted.

Pravin Raut: Patra Chawl and PMC Bank, the scams under investigation 13

Pravin Raut, an entrepreneur, was arrested by the ED on Wednesday. He has been accused of being involved in the Patra Chawl land scam worth Rs 1,034 crore. He was arrested on charges of money laundering by a Special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court. He is accused of cheating the residents of Patra Chawl and Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) by selling pockets of land to private builders instead of developing them.

Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd a subsidiary company of Housing Development Infrastructure Ltd (HDIL), is already accused of Rs 4,300 crore fraud at the Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank. Reports mention that the Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd was involved in the redevelopment of Patra Chawl at Goregaon that had 672 tenants in tenements on 47 acres of land belonging to Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA).

Parvin Raut illegally sold FSI to various builders for Rs 1,034 crore with the help of Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan and Sarang Wadhawan, Directors of Guru Ashish Constructions Pvt Ltd. This was done without constructing the rehab flats and flats to be handed over to MHADA, which was the pre-requisite.

A deal was made to construct 3000 flats – on a piece of land in Goregaon – out of which 672 were to be given to the Patra Chawl residents. In this entire deal, Pravin Raut received 95 crore rupees from Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL), which the ED believes that this money might have come from the illegal sale of the flats. Pravin Raut on the other hand clarified to ED that the money was received after he sold HDIL shares in 2010.

In the meantime, Sarang Wadhavan along with his father Rakesh Wadhavan was sent to judicial custody and has been lodged in Arthur Road jail since October 2019 in connection with the Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank fraud case. The court remanded Sarang to police custody. During the probe, Pravin Raut’s name appeared once again because he was the former director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd.

On February 1, the ED conducted a search operation at the house of Pravin M. Raut. His statement was also recorded under section 50 of PMLA. During the raid at Pavin Raut’s house, ED found some documents of Guruashish Constructions. The ED is probing Magpie DFS Pvt Ltd and its director Sujit Patkar, a close friend of the now arrested Pravin Raut, for the alleged fraud in the development of a plot in Goregaon in suburban Mumbai. The probe agency had searched the office and residence of Patkar as well as the premises of Raut.

Agencies suspect that a part of the proceeds of the illegal sale of the FSI may have been invested in Magpie DFS, where Sanjay Raut’s daughters Purvashi and Vidhita are directors, so far there is no official statement by the authorities on this.

Earlier in 2010, Pravin Raut had received Rs 95 crore in his bank account in the guise of sale of equity and land deal though the company was not able to complete the project and had not generated any income. The Economic Offences Wing had then first filed an FIR to probe the allegations made in the re-development of the chawl.

Rs 95 crore amount was routed in Raut’s account from HDIL sourced by illegally availed loans from the PMC Bank. The accounts showed that HDIL had given money to Raut for acquiring land in the Palghar area. Further, as per the ledger of M/s. HDIL, the funds were given to Pravin Raut for acquiring land in the Palghar area. The investigation also revealed that Pravin Raut paid an amount of Rs 1.6 Crore to his wife Madhuri Pravin Raut from the proceeds of the crime.

Out of the said money, Madhuri Raut transferred Rs 55 lakh as an interest-free loan to Varsha Raut, who is Mr Sanjay Raut’s wife. The amount was further utilized for the purchase of a flat in Dadar East, Mumbai. The investigation further revealed that Varsha Sanjay Raut and Madhuri Pravin Raut were partners in M/s. Avani Construction. Varsha Sanjay Raut received Rs 12 lakh from this entity (as overdrawn capital converted to loan) on a contribution of a mere Rs 5,625. Varsha Raut’s statement was also recorded last year in connection with the same incident. Madhuri Raut also recorded her statement with ED. Sarang Wadhawan, the promoter of Housing Development has also recorded his statement.

"I am not scared of such political vendettas", says Sanjay Raut after his Businessman brother Pravin is arrested by the ED 15

Businessman Pravin Raut is remanded to Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody till 9 February, 2022. A case of criminal conspiracy and cheating was registered by the Mumbai Police in March 2018 after which ED registered a money laundering case in September 2021 and began their investigation. During the court of PMLA investigation, it is revealed that Raut was holding 25% shares of Guruashish Pvt Ltd till March 2010 and was actively involved in various activities relating to the project.

On Tuesday, ED had conducted a search at Raut’s Wadala residence which resulted in seizure of documents. He was placed under arrest early on Wednesday morning. The investigations so far confirms that Raut, Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan and Sarang Wadhawan all directors of Guruashish had conspired together and hatched a conspiracy to fraudulently raise and siphon off money from this project without any intent to complete the project and thus jeopardizing the future of 672 tenants whose dwellings had already been demolished.

Shiv Sena MP, Sanjay Raut said, “Such occurrences will continue till 2024 elections, but I am not here to bow down. We all will come clean in all the investigations because all the allegations made in the media are based on sources and speculations. This is one more attack on my family, probe agencies can follow the orders of their bosses. Me and family are here to give required cooperation to the agencies during probe.”

The ED also alleged that, as per the Deed of Confirmation and Modification Agreement dated November 03, 2011, entered into between society, MHADA and Guruashish, the estimated cost of construction of the whole project was Rs 1017 crore and the rehabilitation portion required to be completed first. “As per the agreement, it was incumbent on the developers to seek permission of MHADA for each sale. This was for the purpose of keeping an account of inflows accrued by the developer by MHADA. In order to circumvent this requirement, Raut wrote a letter in May 2011 to MHADA and sought permission to sell the sales portion of the flats without specific permission of MHADA for each such sale.

However, examination of sale documents revealed that stamp duty and registration was paid on each such transaction by the developer. There was, therefore no loss to MHADA if MHADA waiver was taken on individual sale permission. Once the conditional permission of MHADA was received for sale of flats (with condition that OC shall be given only after handover of Rehab component to MHADA), M/s Guruashish sold the FSI (not flats as mentioned in the letter) to various builders and received Rs 1034 crores from the builders. They also sold certain flats directly to home buyers and pocketed that money.

Earlier, the ED attached assets worth Rs 72 crore of Pravin Raut under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the PMC Bank case. The ED alleged that Pravin Raut siphoned Rs 95 crore from loans taken by the HDIL through Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank. It found that Raut transferred around Rs 1.6 crore to his wife Madhuri Raut, who is a business partner of Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut. Of this Rs 1.6 crore, Madhuri allegedly transferred around Rs 55 crore to Varsha as an interest-free loan.

This money was then allegedly invested by Varsha in buying a flat at Dadar. The ED is probing Magpie DFS Pvt Ltd and its director Sujit Patkar, a close associate of the now arrested Pravin Raut, for the alleged fraud in the development of a plot in Goregaon in suburban Mumbai. The probe agency has searched the office and residence of Patkar as well as the premises of Pravin Raut.

The agency suspects that a part of the proceeds of the illegal sale of the floor space index (FSI) may have been invested in Magpie DFS, where Sanjay Raut’s daughters Purvashi and Vidhita are directors. But they have not given confirmation authenticating this claim.

AAP terms BMC budget as 'Contract and Contractor drive', calls it a string of 'misplaced priorities' 17

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has termed the BMC budget as ‘Contract and Contractor Driven’, slams BMC’s ineptitude for not being able to spend last year’s budget outlay; calls BMC budget a string of ‘misplaced priorities’.

Terming the BMC budget as ‘Contract and Contractor Driven’, the Aam Aadmi Party today slammed the Shiv Sena led BMC for its lack of focus on improving the standard of living of Mumbaikars. That the cash-rich BMC is the fountainhead of all corruption in Maharashtra, is an open secret and is validated by the lived experience of Rs 1.5 Crore Mumbaikars.

Despite the massive revenue shortfall, the budgetary estimate for the financial year 2022-23 has been pegged at Rs 45,949 crore, which is 17.10% higher than that of the budget for FY 2020-21 (Rs 39,038.83 crores).

Where is this additional money going to come from? As stated by the municipal commissioner, we will be dipping into our reserves, while also taking additional loans, thus further burdening the exchequer, without demonstrated capacity to actually spend it!

“Huge budget outlays mean nothing when only 48% of the last fiscal year 2021-2022 budget was actually utilized. This has been happening year after year, for the past several years, where the BMC has been consistently unable to spend its budget outlay, despite making provisions for it.

It speaks volumes of the BMC’s ineptitude and poor capacity to execute projects that have already been budgeted for. We demand that like the Delhi Govt, the BMC must also present an Outcome budget to state what was achieved in the previous year, else this entire announcement is useless”, said Ruben Mascarenhas, Mumbai Working President of the Aam Aadmi Party.

“This budget has nothing for those living in slums, who make up the vast majority of Mumbai’s population. Mumbai has poor physical infrastructure like roads, footpaths, water and sewage lines, degrading natural infrastructure and crumbling social infrastructure like education, healthcare and lack of public conveniences.

One would have thought that the recent covid pandemic and its aftermath, would have served as a wake-up call to the civic administration, but this budget has proved otherwise and is nothing a string of ‘misplaced priorities’.

BMC’s allocation to the education department is Rs 3370 Crores, which is a mere 7.33% of our budget and reeks of vast under allocation. Our Government in Delhi spends 25% of 69000 crores – 16377 crores.

That’s why Delhi’s 17 lakh+ students are thriving, while BMC schools keep closing with less than 3 lakh students left.

“BMC has to think beyond these band-aid efforts of fixing a failed system. Why can’t BMC simply replicate, Delhi’s successful model of Universal Healthcare through Mohalla clinics within 1 km, where diagnostic tests and medicines are free, for every Mumbaikar?”, said AAP National Executive Member, Preeti Sharma Menon.

BJP's Naqvi hits out at Rahul Gandhi over 'two Indias' remark says "Get over Indira is India" 19

Union Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Thursday slammed Congress and the governments led by the party before 2014, saying they have to get out of “Indira is India” belief to understand that there are no two Indias.

Speaking on behalf of the BJP during an ongoing discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, Naqvi said, “We need to get out of the hangover of thinking of Indira is India and India is Indira and Congress is the country and the country is Congress”.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday, criticizing the Presidential address that marked the beginning of the Budget Session of the Parliament, said the speech had no strategic vision and did not touch upon the main challenges that our country is facing currently including the growing gap between the extremely rich and the poor in the country.

Naqvi also informed the House that the PM Modi-led government has ended the rule of “cuts, commissions, family politics, Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, and brought Citizenship Amendment Act to protect religiously persecuted people”.

The BJP leader said there are two India; one is of the sanatani or thinking and the other of samanti or feudal. Listing 28 changes by the PM Modi government, Naqvi spoke on how the situation has changed since 2014 and the ruling of cuts, commissions have been stopped completely.

In the Modi government, Naqvi said “the politics of the country is not being decided on the basis of the political circumambulation of the family, and that it is now based on hard work of eligible people.” The Modi government ended the red beacon culture and the politics of power, Naqvi said, adding “We also destroyed political appeasement.”

After becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi made laws that were needed and removed those in which rules were not framed and these were lying for years without any use, he added. The Minister said a total of 1,500 such unused laws were repealed.

Naqvi further said “week of riots” and “months of terrorist blasts” have come to an end, and “we replied to the neighbouring country by doing surgical strikes against its terrorist activities”. Referring to late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s statement that money sent by the Central government from Delhi does not reach people in its original form, the Minister said that this scenario has now changed and people receive what is sent by the Central government.

Noting that there was a time when decisions of the Supreme Court were rendered ineffectual, Naqvi said, “The government took steps to make Supreme Court’s decision on Triple Talaq effective and brought forth a law to protect the rights of Muslim women.” Naqvi also mentioned how the government abolished Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the law which cut off the erstwhile state from the country’s stream of development was removed.

Bypassing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, Naqvi said, “Modi government provided citizenship rights to people persecuted on the basis of religion and allowed citizenship to six undocumented non-Muslim communities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.” The Minister also added that the CAA helped in bringing the minorities from Afghanistan after the Taliban took over the country.

The CAA was passed by Parliament on December 11, 2019, and the Act was notified within 24 hours on December 12. CAA exempts the members of the six communities from any criminal case under the Foreigners Act, 1946 and the Passport Act, 1920.
