BJP can lose Goa polls 2

BJP has a lot of challenges in Goa, it could have become the single largest party in the polls but now they have to depend on others to form a government if they at all manage to pull some seats. BJP has failed in most of the promises and handling the issues in the state but have developed the state to some extent, with most of their projects being completed in the coming five years or so. Also, there are major corruption charges against the government.

Utpal Parrikar, son of former Goa chief minister, the late Manohar Parrikar, is the most-watched person in Goa BJP these days. Utpal has announced he will contest the Assembly election in February 2022 from the Panaji constituency on a BJP ticket. However, BJP was adamant about not giving him a ticket from the said constituency and he had to leave BJP. Right now there is huge anti-incumbency against BJP in Goa. Aam Aadmi Party made its mark and they can get good seats to their kitty.

AAP and TMC fighting Goa polls separately, they could have benefited BJP by cutting Congress votes but the surprise entry of NCP and ShivSena will definitely dent the prospects of BJP. The late Manohar Parrikar had made Panaji his constituency throughout his three-decade long political career that began in the early 1990s. He shifted his residence from Mapusa to Panaji first and then to Taligaon to be in touch with his voters.

But Utpal leaving BJP and contesting independently may not go in favour of BJP and its contesting candidate. Earlier also, Utpal wanted to contest the May 2019 by-elections from the Panaji seat which fell vacant with his father’s demise in March. But Pramod Sawant, who wanted Utpal to back Sidharth Kuncolienkar, a Parrikar loyalist, however, proved it a disaster for BJP. Congress’ Atansio (Babush) Monseratte defeated Kunkolienkar despite the voters’ sympathy for Parrikar. For the first time since 1995, the BJP had lost in Panaji.

The opposition also now has ganged up against Utpal whose only credential is his surname, Parrikar. Another defeat in Panaji would dent the party’s reputation to a great extent. Parrikar however believes he has it in him. Now, he has taken a politically correct stand by showing all love for BJP and contesting on an independent seat. In 2019, Utpal had said that his father did not want him to join politics as it was not a family business like their engineering firm. He now believes his father’s politics ended with his death on March 17, 2019. He calls himself an independent person who can make a difference in politics.

Last time BJP managed two seats in the Goa assembly elections. Everyone wanted Manohar Parrikar as CM of Goa. Then the opposition came together to make Manohar Parrikar a Chief Minister. Congress required only four seats to retain the government, but they couldn’t make it to power. This time BJP may win but never underestimate Congress. Goa assembly election 2022 is open for both parties. The third party will be the kingmaker.

BJP might be perceived as a conservative right-wing party all over India. But that is not the case in Goa. People of Goa live in harmony with Hindus and Christians (the two major religions of Goa) actively participating in each other’s festivals and events. BJP has several Christian MLAs in the state. This point is not to make any communal divide, but just to show you that the vote share is not based on communal lines in Goa and won’t ever be. BJP, Congress and Goan regional parties have exceptional leaders, who people put faith in and have been doing so for several decades. Believe it or not, this factor does matter as political leaders in several constituencies are directly connected to the people, maybe due to Goa being a small state.

AAP has done good work in Delhi, but with a lot of freebies distribution and minority appeasement. If they promise something like this in Goa, it probably won’t go down the throat of the people of the state as the BJP government has already provided them with many subsidies and a reduction in taxes. Also, minority appeasement is simply not acceptable in Goa. Goa is the only Indian state with a uniform civil code and I personally do not know of a single person opposing it.

AAP’s reach in Goa is being overhyped. Just as BJP could not win a single seat in Tamil Nadu or just one seat in Kerala despite their hype, AAP may meet a similar fate. The regional parties are too strong to be contested against. TMC had contested elections in Goa in 4–5 seats in 2012 and I don’t even remember who their candidates were. AAP, a rookie party, with any known local leadership, expects to win 35 seats out of 40. The party has not come out with any policies to suit the people of Goa. They have not made any study of Goa’s problems and requirements.

Goa Assembly Elections: Utpal Parrikar can dent BJP Votes 4

Utpal Parrikar, son of late former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, quit the BJP while announcing to contest from the seat as an independent candidate. After resigning from the party, Utpal claimed that he tried to convince the BJP leadership that he enjoys the support of the local party leaders as well as of the public. However, he was not given a ticket.

While speaking to the media Utpal Parrikar said, “I have resigned from the party and I would be contesting as an independent from Panaji. It is a difficult choice for me; I am doing it for the people of Goa. No one should be worried about my political future; the people of Goa will do it. The BJP had offered him other options constituencies other than Panaji, Parrikar said. I am fighting for the values which I believe in.”

He also said that resignation was a formality but the BJP will always remain in my heart. On the other hand BJP’s Goa in-charge Devendra Fadnavis had said while releasing its first list of candidates that the party offered some other seats to Utpal, but he was not willing to contest from any of them. Taking the situation to its advantage Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said his party, which had formed a tie-up with the NCP for Goa elections, would support Parrikar if he promised not to back the BJP post-elections.

Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had slammed the BJP for adopting the ”use and throw” policy regarding the Parrikar family and invited Utpal to join his party.

The Shiv Sena MP, however, set a condition to back Utpal. Raut said that the Sena-NCP alliance will back Utpal Parrikar if he promises not to support the BJP after election results are announced. Before Utpal’s resignation, Raut had said that his party will back him if he contests from the Panaji seat as an independent candidate.

Utpal resigned from the Goa BJP yesterday after the party denied him a ticket from the Panaji seat. While the BJP had claimed to offer him two other alternatives, Utpal was firm on contesting from the seat which his father represented for 25 years. The BJP has fielded sitting MLA Atanasio Monserrate ‘Babush’ from the seat. Babush is one of those legislators who had defected from Congress to join the BJP.

Bombay HC seeks reply from Centre, Maha govt on plea for policy on booster doses of vaccine 6

The Bombay High Court on Friday directed the Union Government, Maharashtra Government, and the Mumbai civic body to file a reply to a petition seeking a policy for administering booster doses of anti-coronavirus vaccines.

Advocate Aditya Thakkar, appearing for the Centre, told a division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Anil Kilor that guidelines have been framed for administering ‘precaution doses’ to senior citizens and frontline workers.

The bench then asked the Union government, the state and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to file reply affidavits within ten days.

Lawyers Dhruti Kapadia and Kunal Tiwari, who have filed the public interest litigation, submitted that the third wave of COVID-19 was likely and therefore there was an urgent need to administer booster doses (to those who have had their first two doses of vaccines). The hearing was adjourned for two weeks.

Study finds the quick and best way to fix a sad mood

Study finds the quick and best way to fix a sad mood 8

During a recent study, researchers found the best way to improve sad mood. They suggested that people who were feeling sad improved more quickly when they used a mood-improving method that they were told was their strongest skill.

These participants improved more quickly than people asked to use a skill that they were told was a relative weakness. The study was published recently in the ‘Journal of Clinical Psychology’.

“We found that it helps people to think they’re working with their strengths rather than something they see as a weakness,” said Samuel Murphy, lead author of the study and a doctoral student in psychology at The Ohio State University. What might be most surprising about the study, though, was that participants were randomly told that they were best at one mood-enhancing skill or the other.

“Our results suggest that whether participants were good at the skill was not relevant. It was the belief that they were good at that skill that made it effective,” said study co-author Daniel Strunk, professor of psychology and head of Ohio State’s Depression Research Laboratory. One reason for this finding’s importance was that for many years, psychotherapists focused on trying to fix what was wrong with their clients. In recent years, it has become more common to focus on a client’s strengths and use them to help deal with their problems, such as depression.

But researchers are still learning how focusing on strengths helps clients, Strunk said. “How therapists frame the treatment for a client may play an important role in how well it works. Telling clients that you’re going to be working on their strengths may further enhance the effectiveness of their treatment,” Strunk said.

The study involved 616 undergraduate students. The researchers briefly told participants about two therapy skills — cognitive and mindfulness — that they said may be useful in their everyday lives. Both have been used by therapists to help clients with issues such as depression. Cognitive skills were defined as identifying and re-evaluating negative thoughts and beliefs. Mindfulness skills were defined as awareness and acceptance of one’s thoughts and feelings without trying to change them.

Participants were then given a hypothetical situation in which they could use those skills — feeling hurt by not being invited to a social event by a friend — and directed to practice both skills and complete some measures on how they used them. Each participant was randomly told that one of the skills — cognitive or mindfulness — was their strongest skill or their weakest skill and they would be using that skill in the next part of the experiment — a “sad mood induction.”

The researchers then made participants sad by having them vividly imagine someone they cared about dying while they listened to the sad song “Russia under the Mongolian Yoke,” played at half speed to make it sound even sadder. As expected, most people reported a significant decrease in mood immediately following the induction. Participants were then asked to respond to five mood assessments in the minutes after the sad mood induction.

All participants saw their mood gradually improve after the induction was over. Results showed that whether they were asked to use cognitive or mindfulness skills didn’t have a significant effect on mood recovery — but the framing of whether they were told it was their strongest or weakest skill did. Participants who were told that the skill they would use was their strongest — regardless of whether it was cognitive or mindfulness — saw a bigger improvement in mood than participants who worked with a skill they were told was their weakest.

The study results couldn’t say for sure why framing the intervention as a strength provided better results. “It may be that if there is this initial encouragement early on that they are really good at one particular strategy, that may inspire greater confidence and persistence in using this skill, which leads to better results,” Murphy said.

Or it might be the other way around. “People may be discouraged if they’re told a particular skill is their weakness and not try as hard or be as confident that it will work,” Strunk said.

The researchers said the findings might be helpful to therapists who focused on building clients’ strengths. “It is very easy to let clients know that you’re building on their strengths, so if it enhances the benefit, that will be important to try,” Murphy said. Strunk added that the results could help anyone dealing with a problem like a sad mood.

“We only studied mindfulness and cognitive skills here, but there are a variety of approaches to improving mental health,” he said. “The ones that you think would work best for you probably will indeed work best.”

Britain warns Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping: West will stand up to ‘dictatorship’

Britain warns Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping: West will stand up to 'dictatorship' 10

Britain on Friday warned Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping that its allies would stand together to fight for democracy against dictatorships that it said were more emboldened than at any time since the Cold War.

Speaking in Australia, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said Britain and its allies in the “free world” must respond together to global threats, deepen ties with democracies in the Indo-Pacific and “face down global aggressors” who were using economic dependence to get what they want. Truss and Britain’s defence secretary, Ben Wallace, met with their Australian counterparts in Sydney on Friday for the annual Australia-United Kingdom Ministerial Consultations (AUKMIN), where a deal for Australia to acquire nuclear submarines was discussed.

Australia’s defence minister, Peter Dutton, said there was no plan to establish a British military base in Australia, even as the British navy stepped up its presence in the Pacific. The two countries signed deals to fund infrastructure in the region as a counter to Beijing’s influence. In a joint statement, the ministers expressed concern at Russia’s military build-up on the border with Ukraine and “their absolute support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

Truss warned Putin to “desist and step back from Ukraine before he makes a massive strategic mistake”, in a speech at the Lowy Institute foreign affairs think tank. Truss argued that the “Kremlin has not learned the lessons of history” and that “invasion will only lead to a terrible quagmire and loss of life, as we know from the Soviet-Afghan war and conflict in Chechnya.”

More than 15,000 Soviet troops died in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989, while hundreds of thousands of Afghans perished. The U.S.-led war in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021 led to more than 3,500 deaths among the international military coalition. Global aggressors “are emboldened in a way we haven’t seen since the Cold War,” Truss said in the speech.

“They seek to export dictatorship as a service around the world,” she added. “That is why regimes like Belarus, North Korea and Myanmar find their closest allies in Moscow and Beijing.” Britain should work with allies such as Australia, Israel, India, Japan and Indonesia to “face down global aggressors”, especially in the Pacific.

“It is time for the free world to stand its ground,” she said, adding that China’s “economic coercion” of Australia was “one of the wake-up calls” to Britain that Beijing was using its economic might to exert control over other countries. Beijing, which imposed trade sanctions on Australian goods after Canberra called for an international investigation into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic, has denied accusations of economic coercion.

The West casts Russia as a dictatorial kleptocracy governed by a mercurial elite that has involved itself in irresponsible escapades such as the 2014 annexation of Crimea, attempts to meddle in U.S. and European elections, and a series of high-profile espionage and assassination attempts abroad. Russian officials say the West is riddled with division, gripped by Russophobia and has no right to lecture Moscow on how to act.

Why are most Indian laws unfair to Men?

Why are most Indian laws unfair to Men? 12

For decades we’ve seen headlines debating gender bias laws. In India gender, biased laws are created for empowering women. But most of the reasons given for the creation of biased laws seem to be unfair. We don’t have to look too far for such laws. The IPC defines rape (Section 375) as an act that can be committed only towards women, only by men. This is not a law that “favours” women because rape in itself is a despicable crime. But this means that if a man gets raped, he literally can’t even file the FIR, the most basic document in an official complaint, while a woman can. This is a glaring discrepancy in the IPC which has not been recognized at the legislative level to date.

498A (“Dowry Law”) – the foremost among these laws, with numerous cases of misuse reported every week and the Supreme court of India referring to it as “a new legal terrorism”. Going against the basic principle of the Indian legal system, the accused under this law is presumed guilty until proven innocent. To make matters worse, the charge under this law is also non-bailable. Widely used as a tool of extortion and intimidation by women, there are several thousand men who have been ruined and their families terrorized by this law. Refer to this website dedicated to the cause of supporting the victims of this law for more info.

Domestic Violence Act (2005) – another arbitrary law under which wife/female live-in partners can legally gain tyrannical control over the household. The definition of violence in this law is so expansive that it only takes a woman to feel insulted, for her husband to find himself on the wrong side of the law. Check this page out for more information.

Law on Sexual Harassment at Workplace – assumes that only women can be harassed, and has a provision that makes it a great risk for an organization to even employ women. Under this law, a manager may find himself in trouble if he gives a woman reporting to him work that is too challenging, requires her to work late to finish an important project or puts her in the same team as other members that she doesn’t like – because these satisfy the law’s definition of “creating a hostile work environment” for women.

IPC Section 304B – if a woman dies by burns or bodily injury, or in circumstances other than normal within 7 years of her marriage, the husband will be deemed to have caused the death and has the onus to prove his innocence. Male dominance was not enforced on society; rather it was part of evolution and natural choice for the survival of mankind. Even today, most men die to save common human beings from all-natural disasters

If Women are more unsafe today than they were before independence, men too are not very safe. You will find hundreds of cases where men are voiceless victims. The creation of a special section called “Crime against Women” itself denies men safety from those crimes committed against them. Simply because these crimes are committed against women doesn’t mean they are not committed against men. The absence of any recording mechanism denies the right to safety and equal treatment to men.

We see many viral videos where senior citizens are abused by their daughters-in-law. Men suffer from domestic violence from women too but can’t even report it. Women are granted maintenance irrespective of their behaviour in a marriage. Anyone who opposes women-friendly laws is misogynist, insecure- This is being said about the men who are branded as criminals on marriage and many of whom are highly educated. These men spend money from their pocket to help victims in need, give them free legal consultation or take leave from work to stand by the innocent families jailed under false 498a. These people shed a tear with victims or stand by the woman who is raped by another woman but can’t get justice under feminist rules.

Even with women-friendly laws, women are unsafe, gender-neutral laws will endanger them – Crime is not gender-dependent. To instil public confidence in our legal system, we need legal and policy reforms, else criminal women like Rohtak Sisters, that women who were seen beating ola drivers with sandals publically will continue to take bravery awards for being cruel to other women or men. A lot of them, and guess what, they aren’t biased against females but biased against men.

Under the Hindu Succession Act of 1956, if the deceased has no will, the spouse, mother, and children inherit the property belonging to the deceased. The father is only entitled if the deceased does not have a spouse, mother, or children. The Hindu Succession Act, 1956 is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted to amend and codify the law relating to intestate or unwilled succession, among Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Sikhs. It is hailed for its consolidation of Hindu laws on succession into one Act. The Hindu woman’s limited estate is abolished by the Act. Any property possessed by a Hindu female is to be held by her absolute property and she is given full power to deal with it and dispose of it by will as she likes. Parts of this Act were amended in 2005 by the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005.

1956 – Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act is another biased law, enacted in India in 1956 as part of the Hindu Code Bills. The Adoptions and Maintenance Act of 1956 dealt specifically with the legal process of adopting children by a Hindu adult, as well as the legal obligations of a Hindu to provide “maintenance” to various family members including, but not limited to, their wife or wives, parents, and in-laws. A boy is entitled to maintenance only till he turns 18, whereas a girl is entitled to maintenance till she gets married or decides to provide for herself.

Under the Hindu Marriage Act, both the man and woman can claim permanent alimony and maintenance, but under Section 37 of the Special Marriage Act of 1954, it isn’t so. There are several laws regarding rape in India, taking into consideration its prevalence in our country. However, most of these rape laws seem way too biased towards women where men stand at a terrible disadvantage. The stubbornness of this problem lies in the fact that it is rooted in our societal beliefs about men, women. We believe men should be ‘agentic’ (assertive, decisive, strong) and women should be ‘communal’ (warm, caring, sympathetic). These gender stereotypes clash with the prototype, i.e. the societal view of what a prototypical person should be. We all talk about equality of all genders, but sadly when it comes to the Indian constitution, it is far from realism. This is true that there was a time when the government had to compose special provisions in the constitution for women to ensure equality, but clearly, some of these provisions are undoubtedly unfair to men.

Hindu Widow’s property would be divided into two parts if no child: Supreme Court

Hindu Widow's property would be divided into two parts if no child: Supreme Court 14

The bench was dealing with the legal issue concerning the right of the daughter to inherit the self-acquired property of her father, in the absence of any other legal heir.

“Right of a widow or daughter to inherit the self-acquired property or share received in the partition of a coparcenary property of a Hindu male dying intestate is well recognized not only under the old customary Hindu Law but also by various judicial pronouncements…,” the verdict said.

Referring to the legal provision, it said the legislative intent was to remedy the limitation of a Hindu woman who could not claim an absolute interest in the properties inherited by her but only had a life interest in the estate so inherited. Section 14 (I) converted all limited estates owned by women into absolute estates and the succession of these properties in the absence of a will or testament would take place in consonance with Section 15 of the Hindu Succession Act, 1956…,” it said.

If a female Hindu dies intestate without leaving any issue, then the property inherited by her from her father or mother would go to the heirs of her father whereas the property inherited from her husband or father-in-law would go to the heirs of the husband, it said.

“The basic aim of the legislature in enacting Section 15(2) (of the Hindu Succession Act) is to ensure that inherited property of a female Hindu dying issueless and intestate, goes back to the source,” it said. Dealing with the facts of the case, the bench set aside the trial court and the high court’s findings dismissing the partition suit of the daughters.

The top court said, “…since the property in question was admittedly the self-acquired property of a father despite the family being in a state of jointness upon his death intestate, his sole surviving daughter will inherit the same by inheritance and the property shall not devolve by survivorship.

“Thus, the impugned judgment and decree dated March 01, 1994, passed by the Trial Court and confirmed by the High Court vide judgment and order dated January 21, 2009, are not liable to be sustained and are hereby set aside,” it said.

In a noteworthy verdict, the Supreme Court on Thursday said the daughters of a male Hindu, dying intestate, would be entitled to inherit the self-acquired and other properties obtained in the partition by the father and get preference over other collateral members of the family.

The judgment, which came on an appeal against the Madras High Court verdict, dealt with the property rights of Hindu women and widows under the Hindu Succession Act. The bench was dealing with the legal issue concerning the right of the daughter to inherit the self-acquired property of her father, in the absence of any other legal heir.

“If a property of a male Hindu dying intestate (without a will) is a self-acquired property or obtained in the partition of a coparcenary or a family property, the same would devolve by inheritance and not by survivorship, and a daughter of such a male Hindu would be entitled to inherit such property in preference to other collaterals (such as sons/daughters of brothers of deceased father),” a bench of justices S Abdul Nazeer and Krishna Murari said.

Justice Murari, writing the 51-page judgment for the bench, also dealt with the question of whether such property will devolve on to the daughter upon the death of her father, who died without a will, by inheritance or shall devolve on to “father’s brother’s son by survivorship”.

Shakila Bano, a housewife said, “What about the sad state of affairs of girls with brothers? A large percentage of society still passes on the majority of their assets to their sons. Some say they do this because the sons stay with them. But in many cases, the girls are the ones who take care of their parents despite living with in-laws and they still don’t get any significant part of the parent’s assets. And who made the rule that girls shouldn’t stay with parents once married?”

Tell me who is proud of this culture?

veda book, hindu, religion, culture, women, women respect
Tell me who is proud of this culture? 16

From the Vedas to the Puranas, from Manuscript to Chanakya it has been mentioned that Lying, harshness, deceit, stupidity, greed, impurity, and cruelty are the natural vices of women. Now tell me, if a woman is seen and understood from this point of view, who will give her the basic respect?

Male dominance, adjective to women and substandard behaviour towards her has given natal to Rapes in our country’s culture. Both religion and culture have created a rapist mentality. The woman whom you are abusing has also created you, your mother, sister, and daughter are also the same.

Even today most of the population of India lives in villages, where the lifestyle includes ghosts, vampires, pirs, mazars, gunia, exorcists, tantriks and scavengers, snakes, scorpion poisoners, curing jaundice by sweeping, physical and mental diseases like hysteria and epilepsy. There is no dearth of those who consider it to be a divine calamity and the handiwork of ghosts. All this is seen not only in the villages but also in the cities and many people are running their business from it.

To protect against evil spirits, advertisements of threads and amulets are also seen in newspapers. Instruments and rings for luck are also sold by giving big advertisements in the newspapers. Thugs like Nirmal Baba give you grace only by feeding them samosas. Is this not superstition?

Isn’t religion and faith at the root of all this? And all the people who believe in all this nonsense are not only illiterate but also very educated and I know many such people personally. The New York Times says that 1 lakh women are burnt to death every year in India for dowry and 1.25 lakh women are injured and die in violence. Most of the incidents are not even reported as murder. Domestic violence is traditionally accepted in India, according to a 2005 government survey, 54% of married women said that their husbands justified beating them.

Every day we read in the newspapers that girls and minors of 2 or 3 years old are raped, most of them get injured and die. Most of the rapists are acquaintances, relatives, teachers, and neighbours. Because of being born in a particular caste, a person is considered untouchable, but when those women are raped to show their status, then they do not remain untouchable.

In the last ten years, 60 lakh girls were killed in the womb in this country. We all know very well how much discrimination is done in the upbringing of girls in our culture. Religious teachings do not want women to ever be equal to men, and religion has an impact on culture. This picture of our country and culture all over the world has been made by international media. Are you proud of this culture and such a disgusting society?

Things like animal sacrifice, sneezing and cutting the path by a cat is superstition, then remember that even the worship or rituals performed for the purpose of success in any work is nothing but superstition. When the scientists of ISRO also worship the missile for its success before testing it, then they are definitely superstitious, no matter how much science they have studied.

There is no room for reform in religion, If we look at history, there is a long list of many religious reformers or social reformers to remove the evils prevalent in religion! can be taken. Great men from Buddha, Nanak to Dayanand Saraswathi raised their voices against the evils prevalent in religion and tried to remove them! But what was the outcome? as a result of these reformist efforts, new religions were established in the form of Buddhist, Sikh and Arya Samaj and in them all the same evils and superstitions which they were envisaged after suffering! Whether you believe it or not, people like Mohan Bhagwat, the head of organizations like RSS of the present day and his followers also keep themselves in the category of religious reformers and social reformers.

That is why I firmly believe that no matter what the religion is, there is no scope for improvement in it. Those who tried to reform, in fact, created a new religion, sect or a new sect with all the same evils! It is in such a way that the merge kept on increasing as the medicine was used! That is why I say it is necessary to destroy religion completely in the interest of humanity. Some diseases are such that their treatment is not possible with medicines, but they may be suppressed once under the influence of medicines, but they keep destroying the body inside and their treatment is only surgery, to get rid of the disease. They have to be thrown out! Religion is not a small disease but it is like cancer, it is cancer for society. I always say I hate the sin but not sinners, I hate religion, not religious people.

Mansukh Hiran was forfeited for an image makeover? Param Bir Singh messed it all with self-motives 18

Anil Deshmukh, a former home minister told the Justice K U Chandiwal commission that the then Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh when summoned to the council hall was in the dark and was shivering when asked about the planting of explosives in an SUV parked near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence and murder of the vehicle owner, Mansukh Hiran.

Justice Chandiwal is probing into the allegations made by Singh in his March 20, 2021, letter to the chief minister levelling allegations against Deshmukh of demanding assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze (now dismissed) to collect money from bar owners for him. Later, Singh almost backed out, saying he would neither like to depose before the commission nor he would like to be cross-examined by the witnesses.

Vipin Gaur a senior journalist said, “The person who is highly educated and who is government employed cannot make wild allegations, that would risk his job and career. He could land up in jail. What I understand is, he has some proof. He knows the whole government can be against him, and even defamation cases can be there. Cops just follow the orders. The home minister made a statement that he will file a defamation case against Param Bir instead Param Bir went to SC for an inquiry against HM. He has written a letter and he is definitely sitting on some kind of proof.”

Anil Deshmukh said, “When myself and three additional chief secretaries sought details of the incident, Singh was virtually shivering. He told us he was unaware of the bomb scare episode. We insisted upon Singh, when Vaze was so proximate to him, how it could be that he was unaware of the event.” Further, he said, “when a few senior officers suggested transferring the probe to the anti-terrorism squad (ATS), Singh opposed and insisted that Mumbai police continue the investigation. On March 6, 2021, a decision was taken to entrust the probe to the ATS, and on the same day Vaze was shifted out of the crime intelligence unit.”

When Vaze’s counsel Yogesh Naidu asked Deshmukh about the dismissed cop’s style of functioning, he said his pattern of working was discussed and indicated in the report submitted by the joint commissioner of police Milind Bharambe on March 30, 2021. Deshmukh said he agreed with part of the report where it was mentioned that Vaze was not reporting to senior officials in the crime branch and that he restrained all his subordinates from reporting to senior crime branch officials and in all sensitive cases, he used to accompany Singh for a briefing to the cabinet members.

When asked if Bharambe was asked to conduct a probe into Singh’s letter, Deshmukh said he was not aware. “As home minister, I never asked Bharambe to conduct an inquiry. I have no idea as to whether the CM directed such an inquiry.”

Journalism Pramesh Jain said, “Param Bir Singh is not a saint. The Sushant Singh episode and continued attacks by Republic TV got a lot of humiliation to Singh and the Mumbai police department, the entire world was suspecting them of the conspiracy, social media and Tv news succeeded in creating the wrong perception of Mumbai Police and Maharashtra Government. In damage control mode Vaze and Singh might have planted explosives in an SUV parked near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence and murdered the vehicle owner, Mansukh Hiran. Killing is not new for cops, Vaze is known for killing many youths for his so-called cop image. They never imagined that the things would boomerang them.”

Sangita Amladi, a former Reserve Bank employee said, “I don’t believe Param Bir Singh, when he gets such information, being an IPS and working for the Central government, would he keep this hidden and suddenly after retirement decide to grow a conscience? I also don’t believe the home minister of the richest state in India would need to collect chanda and hafta like underworld Bhai. In cities like Mumbai- the bars and pubs pay the local police stations and the cut goes upwards but never beyond corporators who already pay crores to the party corpus for their nominations.”
