#MaharashtraPoliticalCrisis – Breakthrough expected in Sena-BJP logjam

Shiv Sena, BJP maharashtra, maharashtra Political Crisis, #MaharashtraPoliticalCrisis, Uddhav Thackeray, Devendra Fadnavis, Aaditya Thackerasy, Sanjay Raut, Maharashtra CM, Chief minister of maharashtra, fadnavis government, fadnavis, maharashtra new chief minister, new cm, maha cm, maha new cm, thackeray, devendra, bharatiya janata partyShiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray warned his allies stating, “No one should take anybody for granted”. Meanwhile, a resolution to the BJP-Shiv Sena stalemate over government formation in Maharashtra is expected and a new dispensation may take office before the term of the outgoing assembly ends on November 9.

Till now, the BJP has put up a brave face and termed the Sena’s stand as posturing and bargaining tactics in an ongoing negotiation for better portfolios, such as finance or revenue, the deputy chief minister’s post, rural development, PWD and finally home department. Earlier all it used to take was a phone call from senior ministers to sort things out, but things have now changed with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the helm.

Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut said, “We don’t have a personal grudge against Devendra ji. We have good relations with him. This is a fight of truth and lie, dharma and adharma. This is for the future of Maharashtra. There is no deadlock from Shiv Sena’s side. We have only one key, that is of truth. One must come forward with what was decided.”

Two weeks have flown by since Maharashtra’s voters gave the BJP and Shiv Sena a combined majority, but there’s still no government in sight. It’s been said that their relationship is “on again, off again,” and this fortnight’s events show why. The BJP and the Sena have been fighting over the chief minister’s post (the Sena wants to share it; the BJP doesn’t). And now, a key deadline looms: if a new government isn’t in place by November 9, president’s rule will have to be imposed.

BJP’s ministers Chandrakant Patil and Sudhir Mungantiwar met the Governor, they may stake claim to form the government again but nothing seems to be easy for them.

Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar says,  “99 per cent” of the Congress’s MLAs did not want a BJP government, and that Sharad Pawar of the NCP was a good option for the chief minister’s post. The NCP and the Congress won fewer seats than the BJP and the Sena in last month’s election, but their tallies 54 and 44 would make them viable coalition partners. He further stated the “marriage” between his party and the Shiv Sena can be discussed after a “divorce” takes place between the Sena and the BJP, whose differences have delayed the formation of a new government in Maharashtra.

Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that there will be a decision soon. “Government in Maharashtra should be formed under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis,”. The Union Minister also denied any mediation by RSS in the issue. “RSS and Mohan Bhagwatji have no connection with this,” he told reporters. He further said, “No question of me returning to Maharashtra, I will continue to work in Delhi,”

Supporting Gadkari’s statement, Sudhir Mungantiwar also dismissed the rumours and said “Nitinji will never come to Maharashtra. It is not even his distant dream to come to Maharashtra as chief minister.”

Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut has also denied that the Sena wants BJP leader and Union minister Nitin Gadkari to be the chief minister instead of Fadnavis. Gadkari himself denied being in running for the CM post and backed Fadnavis for the top job. The Union minister said there was “no question” of him returning to state politics and expressed confidence that the Sena and BJP will reach a deal soon. The tenure of the current Assembly ends in two days and a special three-day session of the House may be convened next week to swear in the new MLAs, said sources. A resolution to the BJP-Sena stalemate over government formation is expected and a new dispensation may take office before the term of the outgoing Assembly ends, they added.

Shiv Sena MLA Abdul Sattar told AV, “The party has unanimously decided that only Shiv Sena leader be made the chief minister, all the party MLAs and 8 independent legislators will remain at Rang Sharda Hotel in Bandra till the government is formed in the state.”

At a meeting in Matoshree, Shiv Sena MLAs have reportedly asked party leader Uddhav Thackeray to be firm on his demand for a rotational CM during negotiations with ally BJP. Negotiations on government formation have dragged on for the 14th day since the election results were announced. Sena leader Sanjay Raut has denied rumours of party MLAs being moved to resorts to thwart alleged poaching by ally BJP, but sources say arrangements are being made to move the MLAs to a five-star hotel in case necessary.

Causes of pollution and its effects on our health

Air Pollution 1

Pollution or air pollution is one of the most dangerous problems not only in India but also in the entire world. It refers to the contamination of the atmosphere by harmful chemicals or biological materials. Similarly the toxic level of air pollution in and around Delhi is creating quite a menace. Adding to the severity, the changing weather conditions have locked the pollutants in the air and made the situation worse. Experts have warned people that they may undergo dire consequences if the condition remains for long and discouraged them form stepping outdoors.

But do we ever think about the reasons behind this soaring pollution are? The Delhi government wisely managed to blame the neighbouring states responsible for such condition. It claimed that stubble burning in Punjab, Haryana and West UP is the major cause for the air pollution in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR).

On the contrary to it, environmentalist Sunita Narain – director general of Centre for Science and Environment also a member of the SC-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA), claimed that about 65 per cent of pollution in Delhi is due to local sources and it is the main reason why the state and surrounding eras are seeing poor or very poor air quality. She also said pollution from stubble burning contributes only about 5-7 per cent to Delhi’s pollution load, but this could go up if there is wind blowing down from the north.

Then another study, conducted by The Energy and Resources Institute (Teri), throws some light on the reasons behind pollution in Delhi. According to Teri’s Sumit Sharma, who works on environment and pollution issues, 36 per cent of the pollution has its source in Delhi itself, 34 per cent in NCR while 30 per cent comes across international borders.

However, the studies may be different in figures but what is the common in all studies and figures is that Delhi itself is majorly responsible for such disastrous condition. Let’s turn to the major factors for which Delhi is responsible. There may be more than one reason that are contributing to worsen the air quality of the national capital but some are very important should be pondered over. Unusual increase in population of the city is deteriorating the environment.

Moreover unplanned development of industries and factories is also the factor which may develop the city but devastating human life. According to the studies, only about 20 per cent of the industrial units are set up in the approved industrial areas whereas the rest of them are in residential and commercial areas.

There are some other causes too such as huge rise in the vehicular population, increase in vehicles, solid waste, liquid waste, industrial and hospital wastes in the city. There has been too much dependence on fossil fuels like coal-fired power plants, improper use of energy in buildings and the excessive use of biomass for cooking and heating, etc.

According to Gardiner Harris (The New York Times, 2015) Delhi is quietly suffering from a dire pediatric respiratory crisis, with a recent study, showing that nearly half of the city’s 4.4 million school children have irreversible lung damage from the poisonous air. In addition, research shows that pollution can lower children’s I.Q., hurt their test scores and increase the risks of autism, epilepsy, diabetes and even adult-onset diseases like multiple sclerosis. Poor air quality is a cause of reduce lung capacity, headaches, sore throats, coughs, fatigue, lung cancer and early death.

Letters to the Editor: 07 November, 2019

letters to the editor, afternoon voice,Reduce passport application charges for senior citizens

Presently the senior citizens need to shell out an exorbitant charge of Rs.1350 in order to apply for a fresh passport under normal category at the Passport offices across the country and it thus causes an inconvenience. The passport officials are now kindly requested to empathise with the sensitivities and other related compulsions of Senior Citizens who otherwise lead a frugal retired life or are either dependent on their wards. While it is given to understand that other facilities are offered with atleast a 50 per cent rebate such as railway concessions, air fare etc. There is now an urgent need to revise the existing charges by upto 50 per cent for senior citizens applying for passports under normal category at the passport offices.

Hence the Ministry of External Affairs is kindly requested to reduce the normal category passport application fee by 50 per cent and thus enable senior citizens to apply at a fee of Rs. 750 only instead of the existing fee of Rs.1350. The move to reduce the normal fresh passport application charges as suggested will highly benefit the needy senior citizens to avail the passport facility and thus travel abroad in an affordable way.

Gilchrist’s advice to Pant

Former Australia batsman and wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist in a recent interview with the media has aptly said that young Indian wicket keeper Rishabh Pant must not try to become the next Dhoni and also advised the youngster to learn from the former Indian captain but not to ape him. He said that fans and journalists  have started comparing Pant to Dhoni and that in a way has pressurised  the youngster as he is nowadays found embattled, hard pressed and lacking form. Pant definitely has been selected, reckoning his splendid performance  in some of the series held home and abroad. His imitation and actions of a legend like Dhoni did prove fruitful earlier but then one can’t charm the spectators always  just with that. Good players have to have their own panache. Legends like Adam Gilchrist, Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, and Dhoni etc rose to greater heights only because they had their own style and  displayed splendid skills on the field. They carved a niche of their own by braving all the odds and by working hard to come out with their best. Sadly today’s youngsters get carried away by applause, praise and publicity. Mistakes made  in one or two matches is quite common but a failure throughout results in doubts and comparison. No doubt Pant’s grit and mettle plus his skills landed him in the  squad and definitely the young player should come out with his best and come out with his own style.

Dehli a city of moving masks

The Supreme Court-mandated Environment (Prevention and Control) Authority made the declaration as the air quality deteriorated sharply and the region experienced its most polluted day in about two years. The air quality index topped out the highest pollution level that can be recorded at many places and gave the city the dubious distinction of being among the most polluted cities in the world. There is no normal life in Delhi, with people being advised to stay indoors, schools shut down, office timings rescheduled, and construction activity banned. It has been reduced to a gas chamber where all living things are gasping for air. It is a city of moving masks. A great responsibility rests on the people also, who should follow the rules and norms to tackle pollution and force governments to act right.

WhatsApp not safe

Amidst the row over the alleged surveillance of phones through WhatsApp, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said her phone was also “trapped” and asked PM Modi to investigate the matter. Even mobile phones, WhatsApp aren’t safe. It is a very serious matter.

Indian Sikh pilgrims will need passport to use Kartarpur Corridor: Pak Army

Kartarpur CorridorIndian Sikh pilgrims visiting the Kartarpur Sahib will need a passport to use the Kartarpur Corridor, which will be inaugurated this week, the Pakistan Army has said, according to a media report on Thursday, days after Prime Minister Imran Khan announced that Indian devotees would only need a valid ID to visit the revered Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Kartarpur corridor on November 8.

The comments by Pakistan Army spokesman Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor came a day after India asked Pakistan to clarify whether passport will be required by the Sikh pilgrims to visit the Gurdwara in Kartarpur.

The Kartarpur Corridor, which provides a visa-free access to Indian Sikhs to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, will be inaugurated on Saturday by Pak Prime Minister Imran Khan to mark Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev‘s 550th birth anniversary.

Maj Gen Ghafoor on Wednesday said that Indian Sikh pilgrims would require a passport to use Kartarpur Corridor, Dawn News quoted Hum News channel as saying.

“As we have a security link, the entry would be a legal one under a permit on a passport-based identity. There will be no compromise on security or sovereignty,” Ghafoor said.

On Wednesday, India asked Pakistan to clarify whether passport will be required to visit the Kartarpur Sahib.

On November 1, Prime Minister Khan, while announcing the completion of Kartarpur Corridor on Twitter, said he had waived two requirements relating to passport and registering 10 days in advance for Sikhs coming for pilgrimage to Kartarpur from India.

He said that Sikh pilgrims from India would only need a valid ID and not a passport to travel to Kartarpur. The service fee of $ 20 dollars for those coming for the inaugural ceremony and on the 550th birth anniversary of the Sikh Guru on November 12 was also abolished.

The year 2019 marks the 550th birth anniversary year of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, whose birthplace is Sri Nankana Sahib in Pakistan. The corridor has been established to commemorate his birth anniversary.

The Kartarpur Corridor will connect the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Punjab with Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur, just 4 kilometres from the International Border, located at Narowal district of Pakistan’s Punjab province.

Notwithstanding a chill in bilateral ties over Kashmir, Pakistan and India after tough negotiations signed a landmark agreement last week to operationalise the historic Kartarpur Corridor to allow Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit the holy Darbar Sahib in Pakistan.

The two countries decided that 5,000 pilgrims can visit the shrine daily. India and Pakistan have also decided that the corridor will be operational through the year and seven days a week and that pilgrims, except kids and elderly persons, will have a choice to visit it as individuals or in groups.

Sena-BJP faced each other over distribution of power

Amid of tussle between Shiv Sena and BJP, six Shiv Sena ministers attended a meeting called by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the farm crisis. Formula for government formation was discussed in that meeting where Shiv Sena is still stuck to 50-50 formula. Battling allies BJP and Shiv Sena met for the first time after assembly election results, with just two days left to the deadline for government formation in Maharashtra. There were speculations that NCP might support Sena in formation of government, but Sharad Pawar told media refuting the support that the two should act fast and form government together instead of plunging the state into a constitutional crisis. Sena ministers present at the meeting included Eknath Shinde and Ramdas Kadam. You cannot separate water, no matter how much you try to. Shiv Sena and BJP are together… We should wait for the news; the good news can come anytime proclaimed BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar after the meeting. Hours later, BJP ministers met at the Chief Minister’s home to discuss how to divide portfolios with the Sena, which has demanded an equal share in power including a turn at the Chief Minister’s post by rotation. Despite the BJP-Sena alliance winning a clear majority together, the Sena’s demand for a shot at the chief minister’s post and the BJP’s refusal to accept it has blocked government formation in one of India’s largest states.

The BJP-Sena are allies for over 25 years. In present scenario, BJP-Shiv Sena government was the only viable option in Maharashtra. Where as Sanjay Raut, already declared in media that he has 170 numbers to show and form government.

Pawar’s comments were seen to clamp a lid on talk of a political reconfiguration in Maharashtra, with the Sena dumping the BJP and getting together with rivals NCP and the Congress. Congress president Sonia Gandhi reportedly told Pawar that her party would not support the Sena. In the middle of the churnings, a top Sonia Gandhi aide and Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel met Union Minister and a senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari. Meanwhile, soon after Pawar’s discussions with Raut, Sena ministers joined a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and other ministers on crop damage in Maharashtra. May be Pawar is mediating to patch the equations. To a question on Raut’s claim that the Sena has the support of 170 members, more than the majority mark of 145 in the 288-member Maharashtra assembly, Pawar made it clear that the calculation did not include his party and the Congress.

Since BJP alone cannot form the government, Sena is trying to take advantage of the situation and demanding 2.5 years CM position. BJP is not ready to accept this. If both do not settle the differences, there cannot be a stable government in Maharashtra or even it may lead to the governor’s rule. There is also a possibility of many Sena MLAs defecting to support BJP. So, right now stretching too much is not in favour of Sena, where as Devendra is already a sitting CM and doing his best.

Congress-NCP turned out Shiv Sena, otherwise this alliance was much stronger and enjoyed governance for many consecutive terms. Shiv Sena even then was the major party in Maharashtra but missed out on the required majority since it didn’t have any alliance, similar to what happened with BJP in Haryana but with a stark difference in the number of seats. After the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance and more importantly popularity of Modi, BJP-Shiv Sena won the election in 2014 quite dominantly that too BJP winning more seats than Sena, even then Sena felt that they deserve the equal power in the governance since they are the local party and understand the people and their expectations better. BJP is considered as a party that originates from outside Maharashtra. That is the main reason why Shiv Sena claimed for the post of CM now and in 2014. Now, let’s look at this issue from both i.e. Shiv Sena and BJP’s angle separately.

Sena has always kept “ Maharashtra Madhe Marathi pahile..” and “ Hindavi Swaraj Ram Rajya..” narrative which was completely opposite of the Muslim and other minority appeasement of Congress-NCP alliance. Shiv Sena ideologies are somewhat similar to BJP’s and that is why the Sena supporters accepted the alliance calmly in the first place. In 2014, Shiv Sena was denied equal power in government which lead to a lot of petty politics weakening the alliance but both parties needed each other to form a government, hence the bonds grew stronger again in the face of 2019 elections. This time Shiv Sena had two options, either continue with the Sena- BJP alliance and somehow convince BJP to agree on a Sena CM or to break the alliance and join hands with Congress-NCP to make sure that Aaditya Thackeray or someone else from Sena becomes the CM, but giving up on a lot of loyal voters in the process since while doing this they would have betrayed their own ideology and the very reason for the support they get. In both cases, Shiv Sena would be ruling until 2024. BJP on the other hand, after 2014 has been the most dominant party in Maharashtra and no one comes close to it except Shiv Sena. BJP wants to maintain its government in the state. And for that they need the alliance with Shiv Sena. But since BJP has won more seats in the election, they don’t want to give up on the post of CM either (same reason why Devendra Fadnavis became CM in 2014) and quite frankly that’s fair according to me.

BJP government is anti-farmer

AAP attacks BJP,BJP, AAm aadmi party, bharatiya janata party, maharashtra, devendra fadnavis, Dhanajay Shinde,Aam Aadmi Party, alleged Maharashtra Government for misuse of Police mechanism to coerce social activists like AAP state secretary- Dhananjay Shinde, who organised farmers’ long march to press for Swaminathan Commission’s implementation for MSP. The party also called press conference to talk on justice to agrarian distress given large-scale damage to standing crops as well as harvested crops due to unseasonal rain. When our Editor-in-Chief Dr Vaidehi Taman spoke to Aam Aadmi Party leader Dhananjay Shinde, General Secretary, AAP Maharashtra, he said that the “BJP government has adopted the practice of institutionalised lies and deceit. Whenever there is a protest, it engages in a discussion with protesters, gives them fake assurances and then conveniently goes back from its promise. They even took the lies to the parliament when Union Agriculture Minister Radhamohan declared that BJP never promised implementation of Swaminathan Report, even though PM Modi, who was also present in the parliament, had distinctly promised the same to the farmers. It is evident through the deteriorating situation and government apathy, that this government is not serious about farmers issues and is insensitive to their plight.”

Kishore Mandhyan, Co-convenor of AAP said, “We got together to convey our disappointment because of the manner in which government has responded to drought. Lot of people has been affected. The government has not responded adequately. We are not sure whether the state institutions like the disaster management commission have been fully equipped and they have a concept about how to reach people. We need to upgrade the system otherwise Maharashtra is failing in its duties to people.”

AAP national spokesperson Preeti Sharma Menon said, “We had received notice of state secretary Dhananjay Shinde for supporting the farmers march that came into Mumbai. After the big farmers march from Nashik the second farmers march was of landless farmers. A chargesheet was filed against us for supporting farmers. The government gives assurance to farmers about doing something for them. There was a meeting with the chief minister and he agreed to all their demands. However, no single demand has been fulfilled instead cases have been filed against farmers. This government is anti-farmer.”

It becomes imperative that all of farmers, organisations, common people and we come together to fight for the rights of the people. AAP protests with fellow member organisations of Sukanu Samiti like Shetkari Sangathna, Mumbai Tiffin Services Organisation, Kisan Morcha, Janata Dal Secular, Baliraj Shetkari Sangathna, Indian Environment Movement, Shetkari Kamgar Paksha, Communist Party of India, Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha and others. Aam Aadmi Party conducted a press conference to speak in front of media and express their concerns.

Here are the excerpts of the interview with Dhananjay Shinde

What is the objective of this press conference?

On October 14, there was State government GR – Government Resolution, any individual having any issue or problem or concern.  For an example, it might be farmer, students or youth or teacher, they cannot go to any of their friends, relative, organisation or any political party other than approaching the government. Basically which is against the Constitution. If I am a farmer and I have a problem and I felt my crop is an issue, then I will go to the farmer’s organisation, I will inform other farmers or I will go to other political party or Raju Shetti and say hey this is my problem help me to get government grant. But if I approach government directly, there is no guarantee that I would get some benefit, this is what has happened to so many agitations by farmers across India. In the past five years, the farmers of Maharashtra are on constant strike and government tried to break the agitation. This government is not able to handle the issues or problems, faced by people and the country. And if the people come together to request the government or agitate, the government is making false promises and forgetting to keep their words.

So, do you think the government is getting good numbers of votes, just by not keeping promises?

This government is managing votes, they are hacking EVMs and managing voting for them. Government is not paying attention at all they are unable to solve the problems of our country. They have just created big media machinery, social media machinery, they are taking help of the international agencies to hype their agendas but in reality this government is a big flop. They are making misuse of the machinery.

Can EVM be really hacked?

I am a technocrat, I have worked with the companies like IBM, I was in US and basically my core competency has been into malware, hacking, spyware, spams, and viruses. So, basically they are making misuse of the machinery and they are getting elected, it’s absolutely the election has been hacked by BJP government.

Looking at the current scenario in Mumbai, Maharashtra do you think they really hack the EVM?

The primary objective was to get the power at the Centre and if they try to hack every election then people will realise that. BJP is smart enough to choose where they should compromise EVM and where they should not. You see, the moment political parties and leaders including Raj Thackeray took an initiative as he took a press conference in Mumbai on August 3 stating EVM threat, within seven days of press conference ED notice lands at his door. It’s not only BJP but also the Congress was aware of this. Congress has also done the same in 2009 elections. Our allegation is not only at BJP but Congress also has been doing the same when they were in power with absolute majority. The Congress and BJP are the two side of the same coin where policies are same, behavioural disorders are same.

Why Congress has failed in 2014 if they know how to manage EVM?

Look at the relationship between these leaders; have they ever managed to send Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Ajit Pawar to jail? Why only other leaders in the jail? It did not reach to the logical conclusion.

There are allegations on former AAP member also that they diluted the subject by taking benefits from the ruling party such as irrigation Scams and PWD scam.

It was just a hype created by the opposition and if you know just tell us which member is doing it; we will sack them immediately from the party.

They are not with AAP now, they themselves resigned long back.

Resignation is individual decision but party also asks them to resign, if he/ she is a culprit. The Congress and BJP are in close alliance and if you have seen it in a current BJP, they have 105 MLAs and couple of them from NCP and Congress. When there was majority movement at that moment NCP supports BJP. Our submission is that Congress; BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP all four of them are just fooling people of the country. They are managing the machinery for their personal benefits.

So, you are questioning the intellect of the voters?

No! Voters are very honest, I respect the voters a lot and they are very honest but there are some instances like the misuse of EVMs. How come every time EVM’s votes go for one party? Like whenever there is fault in the machine the vote goes to only one party.

AAP has failed to gain the confidence of people other than Delhi. AAP came with the movement, came with the good leaders and then they split wide open, may be that is reason people lost faith in them?

No… You being the editor of the newspaper you know how to run the organisation, there is concept called management of change and managing the change is the most difficult part in front of any organisation. And with the transition phase and capable leaders to mange is big challenge. AAP came out of the movement, so people from different class, different background supported this party giving their best contribution. For your information, in Goa AAP managed 6-7 per cent votes, in this assembly elections our candidate from Kalyan and Mumbra  were at the verge of winning. We got 30,500 votes. Basically its all political experiment and look at our background, we all are common people none of us belongs to any wealthy family. We are farmers, professionals, youths and housewife.

Every political beginner is from the normal family.

If we talk about the alternative political organisation we want to experiment. We are successful in Delhi and we want to replicate same model for Maharashtra.

What are your demands through this press conference?

We are asking government to provide MSP as per Swaminathan report, instead of giving subsidy for fertilizers to companies, it should be deposited directly into the farmers bank accounts to ensure proper access. A Universal Basic Income of 6,000 rupees per month to be ensured to all the farmers and landless labourers. In cases of death or injury due to fertilisers or pesticides, an FIR and criminal proceedings must be initiated against the companies and concerned officials under IPC 304. Building markets for farmers to directly sell their agricultural produce to consumers without having to go through middlemen. We want government to be sensitive to the problems of the people, farmer and youth.

When can we see AAP ruling Maharashtra?

Our plan is ten year down the line, in 2019 AAP would be in principal opposition, by 2024 we will be in power. This is basically our ten years plan and lot of professionals are working on it. We have people like Kishor Mandiya who was political advisor and security general of United Nations.  He is the same gentleman who wrote the Constitution of Iraq, which was destroyed by America. We have IITians. We have several best people who wants to do best for the society, they are just trying to build the organisation and will try to be the opposition party in BMC.

Demands made by AAP

  1. Deposit fertiliser subsidy directly in farmers bank accounts
  2. A Universal Basic Income of Rs 6,000 rupees per month for farmers
  3. If farmer gets injured or dies due to pesticides FIR must be initiated against companies.
  4. Build markets for farmers to directly sell their agricultural produce to consumers

Thanks to Kriti and some blessed hands, I got out of the pit, says Pulkit Samrat

Pulkit SamratPulkit Samrat says there was a time when he was going through a low phase in his life and, thanks to his family and actor Kriti Kharbanda, he emerged a winner.

The actor, best known for “Fukrey” films, made his film debut in 2012 and said he saw many ups and downs over the years which hurt people close to him more.

“When I entered the industry, I was what I am right now. I changed a bit in the middle due to some circumstances.

“I just went down a bit within myself in the middle, I was in a big pit. Then realisation happened, then some good, blessed hands helped me get out of the pit. Then I got back to who I was when I came to Mumbai,” Pulkit told PTI.

The 35-year-old actor said the moment he reconnected with his passion to act, he felt better.

“I came here for the movies. The moment I reconnected with that part of mine, I got what I came for. Everything fell into place, all thanks to her (Kriti) and my family.

“Only a handful people are there, because of their blessings… They all would’ve gone through more pain than I went through. But I am good now. Even professionally I am much more confident today,” he added.

The actor will next be seen in the Anees Bazmee-directed comedy, “Pagalpanti”. The film also features Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Ileana D’Cruz, Kriti, Arshad Warsi among others.

Though Pulkit has featured in comedies before, he believes one can’t be “too confident” about knowing the beats of the genre.

“You cannot have that attitude. Till today, Anil Kapoor doesn’t take success or his craft for granted. For him, ‘Pagalpanti’ must be a cakewalk and yet you see him on the sets doing so much hard work. We have learnt from him.

“He had a Rs 200 crore hit with ‘Total Dhamaal’ and came here, completely moved on from that, ready to immerse in the new film,” he said.

“Pagalpanti” is scheduled to be released on November 22.

PeeCee savours her first Daulat Ki Chaat while shooting in the capital

Priyanka Chopra,Daulat ki chaatSeems like Priyanka Chopra is making the most out of her stay in the national capital while shooting for ‘The White Tiger’ with Rajkummar Rao, and her mouth-watering Instagram post is proof!

When in Delhi, missing out on some of the local delicacies might not sound like a good idea. And now while she is staying here, Priyanka savored some delectable Daulat Ki Chaat.

And this might be the first time she is gorging on the Delhi delicacy, as indicated in the caption, “Cash in my dessert. Now that’s a first #daulatkichaat #onlyinindia #delhistories #setlife #thewhitetiger.”

Surrounded with Rs 500 notes, the scrumptious looking dessert is beautifully decorated with nuts making it all the more appealing and Priyanka staring at her food looks totally into it.

The 37-year-old is currently shooting for Netflix’s ‘The White Tiger’ based on the Booker prize-winning book by Aravind Adiga.

Bhumi will be seen breaking the definition of beauty in ‘Bala’

Bhumi PednekarWhile Ayushmann Khurrana battles premature balding in his upcoming release Bala”, Bhumi Pednekar will be seen combating societal wrath coming her way in the film as she plays a dark-skinned girl.

Pednekar, who has essayed distinguished roles in her past films like ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ and ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, once again has picked up the baton to spread yet another social message with ‘Bala’

“I realised from my first film that the kind of cinema I really like being a part of has to be entertaining. It has to be fun, quirky; it really needs to take my audience through a journey full of emotions but at the same time it needs to leave them with a thought and this is the precise reason why I selected ‘Bala’. My character deals with the colour bias that exists in our country.”

Bhumi reveals that ‘Bala’ is trying to give out aloud an important social message that self-respect and self-love are extremely important in a judgmental, myopic visioned society.

“My character is a dark-skinned but extremely beautiful girl. She is very confident, she is everything, and she is perfect. But people around make her feel like she is just not complete because of the lack of awareness that our country has,” said the 30-year-old actor.

“Just the obsession with fair-skinned people – I mean if you look around you will see advertisements of fairness creams, if you look at matrimonial ads – there is a constant need of a fair girl, they need a girl who is thin, tall and obviously fair,” continued Bhumi.

The ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ star also hopes to fight this mindset that society has for dark complexion.

“As a society, we have set such wring benchmarks, these incorrect moulds about the perfect definition of beauty. And I have personally taken it upon myself to break the definition of beauty because beauty is very subjective. It is very unique to each person. God has made each of us differently and we need to accept ourselves. And that is what ‘Bala’ is about. The movie is about self-respect and self-love and when I read about the script there was something that instinctively connected with me,” she said.

Bhumi also talked about her character Latika in ‘Bala’ and how she made efforts to change the mindset of people about conventional beauty.

“My character Latika, she is an orphaned and lives with her aunt. Her aunt is a very open-minded person but I think Latika is just a confident girl who always has her defences up. She is a lawyer. The reason she is like this is that ever since she was a child, people teased her for her colour and she has been called names and humiliated her by saying really derogatory things,” she said.

“I think that is why she has taken it upon herself in the film to kind of set things straight in this really flawed society. The whole idea of ugly being associated with the word dark is something the film will try and demolish” added the actor.
