Paul Giamatti has been roped in to star in “Jungle Cruise” alongside Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
The 50-year-old actor will play a crusty harbourmaster in the film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, according to agencies.
The film, a feature adaptation of Disney’s theme park ride, follows a boat captain (Johnson) who takes his sister (Blunt) and her brother (Jack Whitehall) on a mission to find a tree believed to possess healing powers. Wild animals and a competing German expedition figure into the proceedings.
Giamatti and Johnson are reuniting after having worked together in “San Andreas” (2015).
Jesse Plemons and Edgar Ramirez are also a part of the cast.
Scribe Michael Green has written the script of the film, set in the early 20th century and takes place in the Amazon jungle.
Beau Flynn, John Davis and John Fox are producing alongside Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia. Scott Sheldon will serve as the co-producer.
