Rape epidemic in India-Part II

Why can’t we dress the way we want to and go whenever we want to and whichever time of the day we want to? To make matter worse we have great politician who always blames the women and sides with men “men will be men ” men make mistake”. Unless the mindset of such mens change, rapes will continue. Anti-rape laws are more in favour of accused than rehabilitating the victim. Does anti-rape law have anything to offer the victim?

We live in a country where the victim is harassed and accused roams scot free. Let’s stop the blame game. Rape is an act committed by men who treat women as a sex object to satisfy their lust or ego, it happens in each strata of society right from slums to the elite society.

Many a rapes are committed by people who are close to us such as friends, relatives, just about anyone. Sadly, many such cases remain as skeletons in closets due to family honour. Nothing and nothing should be of greater self respect than a woman’s dignity. It’s her body. She has the right to disallow anyone to touch her or penetrate into her body.

Let’s start respecting this as our right. Teach men/ boys in family to respect women “Rape is not the end of the world “as Shakti mills rape victim said. We as a society need to understand this and help the victim to move ahead in life and live normally although it’s easier said than done.

Rapist should be made to feel shameful for the crime he has committed rather than the victim. There is a need to change the mindset of men as well as women in the society. Goddess Durga is worshipped on one hand and on the other hand, we the women are crushed. What an irony !!!

Let’s bring the change within ourselves and the beginning has to be made from our family /society first. Not an easy task but not impossible too. Sex education is the need of the hour. More than that let’s educate men that outraging modesty of women is a crime and an unbailable offence. Can we have such laws wherein next time a man attempts to rape a women/child /girl, he should shudder at the very thought of it’s consequences. Let’s unleash the Goddess Durga within us and destroy the devil. This rape epidemic has to be stopped. Hoping and wishing for a new sensitive India where rape will be never heard of.
