In a surprising development from the Indian sports world, badminton stars Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap have announced their mutual separation after over five years of marriage.
Saina took to Instagram on Sunday to share the personal news, writing, “Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We’re choosing peace, growth, and healing – for ourselves and each other.”
The 34-year-old Olympic medalist and two-time Commonwealth Games champion added, “I’m grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time.”
The couple, who trained together at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad, tied the knot in December 2018. While Saina achieved international acclaim with a world No. 1 ranking and an Olympic bronze, Kashyap also had a stellar career, notably winning the gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
