Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal was ranked as the 18th most charitable sports star in the world by Dosomething.org.

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list of 20 athletes, which included some of the biggest names in the world of sport.

WWE’s John Cena, tennis star Serena Williams, former South Korean figure skater Yuna Kim and Brazil’s football captain Neymar rounded up the top five.

“(Ronaldo) raised money for various causes including donating more than $83,000 to a 10-year-old fan in need of brain surgery and giving more than $165,000 to fund a cancer centre in Portugal that treated his mother. Ronaldo has also used his fame as a global spokesperson for a variety of causes including childhood hunger, obesity and biodiversity,” Dosomething.org said.

Interestingly, Saina is the only Indian to find a mention in the list. No Team India cricketers, considered to be the highest earning athletes in the country, featured in the top 20.

Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi was the only international cricketer to have made the cut.

Maria Sharapova and Lebron James made it to the top 10.
