The nomination of V.K. Sasikala as AIADMK’s general secretary by its general council is no surprise. She has become the second woman leader to lead the party after Jayalalithaa’s demise. It reveals the fact that her acumen to control the party, a trait she must have “inherited” from Amma with whom she spent her long years. Sasikala or ‘Chinnamma’ as she was later called remained a wall of support for Jayalalithaa through thick and thin over the next three decades. There is no doubt that Sasikala is the right choice for leading the party. By virtue of her long association with Jayalalithaa, she has been admired and recognised by the leaders of other political parties too.
