Social activist Anna Hazare who has been assigned Z category security cover has alleged that the security personnel are often careless while discharging their duties. Hazare said that government should not upgrade his security further and if anything happens to him he won’t hold them responsible for it. The social activist further added that it was not easy to support a retinue of nine bodyguards and 28 police personnel at Ralegan Siddhi village (in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district), which has a population of around 2,500 people. Hazare said there are several instances when security personnel are either absent or arrive late when he performs yoga.

Hazare said, “They are also engrossed in their mobile phones and busy chatting. They won’t even realise if someone were to walk in and kill me.”

“I faced death in Khemkaran sector during the Indo-Pak war. What I have got is a bonus. I will serve the country and society till I die,” said the former soldier in Indian Army.

Hazare said that if his security is upgraded then it will impose additional financial burden on the state exchequer.

“The financial situation of the state is poor and increasing my security will pose an additional financial burden on it,” Hazare said.

Hazare’s statement comes amid several threat letters sent to him last year warning that he will be killed. Hazare had received an anonymous letter which mentioned that he would be killed on January 26. The sender had also alleged that the anti-graft crusader has earned a lot of money and asked Hazare to declare him his heir. The police had registered a case against unidentified person in this regard. Hazare also had received a threat letter in August 2015, warning him that he would meet the same fate as rationalist Narendra Dabholkar and leftist leader Govind Pansare.

Anna has always said he has no fear of death and has dedicated his life to the country. The social activist has said that he will not stop his service to society even if he receives such letters and threats.
