Sena hits out at BJP over suicide attempts at Maha Secretariat

Days after three persons threatened to commit suicide at the State Secretariat, Shiv Sena said these are not signs of ‘Acche Din’, even as it questioned the slew of announcements being made by the BJP-led government in Maharashtra.

Three persons had on June 14 threatened to commit suicide in separate incidents at the Secretariat here after they were unable to meet Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to get their grievances addressed.

“Thousands of farmers are committing suicide and the poor and the unemployed have also taken to the path of suicide. The government has to stop this. The government on its part is busy making announcements but they are not reaching people at the grassroot level,” Sena said in an editorial in party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.

“While the CM says the government is working efficiently and no comments will be tolerated, suicide attempts make us question if people are getting the justice they deserve. While it has been two years since the new government came to power, have things changed for the people,” it asked.

It said the government may in future decide to frisk visitors on the steps of Mantralaya or stop visitors altogether, but this is not the way to deliver justice to people but amounts to running away from responsibilities.

“Three people attempting suicide in one day outside the CM’s office is not a sign of ‘Acche Din’. Inflation is increasing by the day which is spoiling the image of the government,” it said.

It said that people living in villages and huts only expect transparency from the government.
