Former chief minister Omar Abdullah asked as to why there was no government in Jammu and Kashmir despite the PDP-BJP alliance still remaining intact and said Mehbooba Mufti should break ties with the saffron party and go for fresh polls.

“As far as we know, the alliance between the PDP and BJP is intact because neither PDP nor the BJP has announced that the alliance has broken and it is indicative that the alliance is prevailing. So, the moot question remains if the alliance is prevailing then why there is no government in the state,” Omar told the media.

“The agenda of alliance was made and Mufti Sahab assumed office, so what changed in past ten months that despite having numbers in the assembly they are refraining to form government,” he added.

Omar asked Mehbooba to give a deadline to the BJP and then call off the alliance and get ready for the elections.

“We don’t know what kind of confidence building measures Mehbooba Mufti is demanding,” he added.
The National Conference leader also made it clear that his party would never join hands with the BJP in the state.

“The BJP had explored many options before also but the National Conference is not ready to talk to BJP. The BJP during the time of Vajpayee and the BJP of now is totally different,” he said when asked to respond on any possibilities of the National Conference forming an alliance with the BJP.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra had earlier written to leaders of the PDP and BJP, asking them to clarify their stand on government formation by Tuesday.

The PDP, with 27 MLAs in the 87-member assembly, and the BJP with 25 legislators ran a coalition government headed by Mufti Sayeed for 10 months before his demise on January 7.
