South Mumbai clinch Dumb and Deaf Open Cricket trophy

Viklang Kalyankari Organisation headed by Mrs Mukta Nalawade and Anil Chouguley, organised the ‘7th Dumb and Deaf Open Cricket Tournament 2016’ which was held at Thakur Shyam Narayan Stadium Kandivali on 14th and 15th April 2016. Thirty two teams consisting of deaf and dumb players from all across India participated in the said tournament which was held for three days. The teams participated from Kolkata, Haryana, Hyderabad, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. DSC_0157 The tournament was inaugurated by D P Mehta Chairman of Transportation Committee, Mumbai and Ashok Khayani, President Satsang Parivar NGO. While the Satsang Parivar sponsored food, beverage and T shirts for all the players, the tournament was co-sponsored by ESOPS, Mukesh Bhandari (Baba Amarnath Group), The event was graced by the presence of Gopal Shetty, BJP MP, Thakur Ramesh Singh (MLA), AK Sinha (NIHH Bandra), Yogesh Bhoir Corporator, Ram Ashish Gupta Corporator, Ashok Khemani (SPA), South Mumbai won the final match by defeating Hyderabad by 20 runs. South Mumbai Team (South Mumbai Deaf and Dumb Association) defeated all the other 31 teams and emerged as winners. They were honoured with a cash prize of Rs 66,666 and a trophy. The first runner up Hyderabad team (Hyderabad Deaf and Dumb Association) won cash prize of Rs 33,333/- , second runner up Marathwada team( Marathwada Deaf and Dumb Association ) won cash prize of  Rs 11,111/- and third  runner up Maharashtra Team (Deaf and Dumb Association walked away with the cash prize of Rs 8888/-. Best Batsmen Gopal Mahanta (South Mumbai ) ,Venkat Silva Krishna (Hyderabad) ,Samiullah Pathan (Marathwada), Govinda Babu (Maharashtra) were honoured with cash prize of Rs 500. They also were felicitated with trophy and medal. Similarly Best bowler – Pravin More (South Mumbai), Venkat Reddy ,(Hyderabad), S Rathod  (Marathwada) Vinod Kamble (Maharashtra) were also honoured. Ms. Vaidehi Taman Editor, Afternoon Voice awarded best players with a prize money of Rs 2000 each and certificates. Mrs Mukta Nalawade, President of Viklang Kalyankari Organisation spoke to Afternoon Voice and said, “The main objective of the tournament was to motivate deaf and dumb children. As my own kids are deaf and dumb, I try to work for their betterment. Our organisation has also successfully distributed Sewing Machines and hearing aid to these kids. We conduct job fair for the deaf and dumb kids and also help them with their education.”
