Sri Lankan court on Thursday gave capital punishment to five Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu in alleged drugs smuggling case. The fishermen were arrested in 2011 by Sri Lankan Navy.
The fishermen have been given time till November 14 to appeal at the Sri Lankan Supreme Court.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, “We will take up this matter. Judgment is passed by the lower court. We will challenge this case in the upper court.”
