St Xavier’s College and NGO Pehchaan imparted training to 100 homeless persons Mumbaikars pertaining to the usage of Right to Information Act (RTI). RTI activist Anil Galgali delivered a speech to these displaced persons explaining about their rights and how to demand for the same. This initiative was held at the prestigious St Xaviers College located near Azad Maidan Mumbai.
NGO “Pehchaan’s” head Brijesh Arya delivered a lecture for these 100 homeless people. Galgali explained many facts in regard to the act since its inception in the country in 2005. He said, “Through RTI any government official, government department has become answerable to the citizens of the country. If the queries remain unanswered, appealing on the same will definitely provide results and desired answers.”
Pehchaan’s Brijesh Arya said, “As per notification of the Supreme Court on the 5th May 2010, it is mandatory for every city which has a population of 5 lakhs to build one shelter home per lakh population. However, these norms are not followed. Many funds allocated for shelter homes exist only on paper.”
