Slowly and steadily the green cover is losing sheen as cutting of trees is permitted for new projects in the city and getting a sanction has become rather easy. Trees absorb, block noise and reduce glare from the sun and a well planted tree can reduce noise by 40 % and it is nature’s blessing. Several trees will have to make way for the construction of Metro 3 car shed at Aarey Milk Colony. Citizens on their part can make a big leap in popularizing tree plantation activities in a big manner with road shows. Some NGOs are doing a good job for spreading the message of tree planting as a part and parcel of our life. Government on their part should see that unauthorized cutting of trees shall not be permitted and see that the Green Cover Revolution take a better shape with their sincere initiative. Cutting of trees will have an adverse effect on the environment.
