In a tragic accident on Friday at least twelve people including nine women and three men were killed and five others injured when a minibus collided with a truck near Itigatti village in Karnataka.
The accident took place on Friday around 7 am when they were heading to attend a family function in Goa. The minibus was carrying 17 passengers, mostly women, from Davangere district of the state.
According to the police, ten women passengers and the driver of the minibus died on the spot. While the other injured people were shifted to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Praveena, Poornima, Preethi Ravikumar, Manasi, Paramjyoti, Rajeswari Sivakumar, Shakuntala, Usha, Veda, Nirmala, Manjula, and Ranjini Srinivas. While the identities of injured people have not revealed by the police yet. All hailed from Davangere district, said an official.
After the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the deaths and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured on Twitter. “Saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident in Karnataka’s Dharwad district. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. I pray for a quick recovery of those injured,” tweeted PMO India.
