We have always been advocating about developing model villages through corporate participation. I had already mentioned about constructing toilets for village women folk, skill development has consistently been uppermost on our minds. We are happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid emphasis on these tasks in his speech from “ Lal Quila”. Modi gave up the bullet proof enclosure security and spoke extempore.
The Planning Commission worked well initially when there was no other think tank and there was a need for an institution to guide the government. Subsequently, this body became the haven for political favourites and the parasites. The organisation should be replaced by a body of experts who possess experience in various fields who can study, generate data and guide the government efficiently instead of creating obstacles.
Toilets in schools have mostly been built in cities and small towns, but there is lack of sanitation facilities in rural areas. There is shortage of clean drinking water in these schools but Modi forgot to mention about it though his intentions sounded good. Construction of toilets in villages for common use of women needs to be undertaken with the help of Panchayats and BDO’s and supervised by local MLA and MP. This job must be done on a priority basis.
Modi said that MPs should adopt a village and develop it but most of them avoid visiting rural areas except during election. Therefore, the MP must persuade a businessman or industrialist to oversee this task.
There is an urgent need to create a capable work force by imparting training to our youth in various employable skills through the assistance of foreign trainers if needed. Today there is an urgent requirement of good electricians, machinists, computer aided designers, plumbers, carpenters, paramedics etc. I am pleased that Modi understands this and is working towards it.
Foreigners will come, invest and work in India if our administration is made efficient and corruption free. We already have read reports about Censor Board Chief Rakesh Kumar being booked for seeking bribe for clearing a film. Modi forgot about declaring intent for corruption free administration. He also forgot to mention about electric power generation, transmission and distribution without which, expansion of manufacturing industry is impossible. Modi had invited the global business community to set up manufacturing activities in India and gave a slogan ‘Come and make in India’. The PM has sent across a good message but if machines fail to work due to shortage of electric power how will manufacturing activities pick up? He also failed to mention about controlling population but he must be congratulated for a spirited enunciation. Let us become united and march on the path of progress and wellbeing of the nation. Good days will come.
