Civic and railway authorities, at disagreement over the crucial Gokhale bridge, which is shut to pedestrians and motorists since November 7, will meet on Friday afternoon to decide who will take on the responsibility of razing the structure above the railway lines. Over the past few days, both the agencies have refused to demolish the bridge. Meanwhile, the BMC is still to float tenders for reconstruction of the bridge in Andheri and officials said this is likely to be done within the next 10 days. The BMC has also contacted IIT Bombay to clear the design of the bridge over the railway portion at the earliest. Officials said once the contractor is in place, fabrication of the girder on the bridge’s railway portion is likely to take a minimum of three months and may go up to February 2023. Thereafter, the launching of the girder would take another two months and the top slab construction and finishing two more months.
