Prime Minister Modi’s popularity is clearly on the wane though returning to power next year would not be a problem due to an divided opposition which is in disarray and leadership vacuum to give a real fight to the Party in power. However, ‘acche din’ as promised by the Prime Minister is nowhere in sight as most citizens struggle to make both ends meet with rising inflation, unemployment and corruption the real issues facing the nation today. PM Modi undoubtedly is a capable leader who puts in a lot of hard work but he now needs to deliver on his promises by taking tough decisions for the betterment of the nation.
Corruption should be fought on a war footing and money generated or saved by targeting illegal activities should be utilised on public welfare programmes that directly support the poor. Policies should be employment generating and self-employment should be encouraged. Inflation can come down if hoarding of commodities are targeted. Next term for Prime Minister would be challenging and he needs to work in right earnest by delivering on his promises to regain public faith and improving his declining popularity!
