Penguins are a welcome addition to the Byculla zoo making it on top of tourist attraction to the city of Mumbai. However, what amazes me is the plight of other animals at the zoo who are ill-fed and in dismal state. Crores of rupees have been spent to get the penguins from abroad while not a fraction of that sum is spent on animals already housed at the zoo. High time the Byculla zoo is upgraded to the best compared to other zoos around the globe and let us showcase Indian breed of animals for foreign tourists to take fond memories from our shores. Not sure how the penguins who survive in cold climate would adjust to Indian condition as a penguin had died earlier at the zoo. Extreme care should be taken and penguins should be deported to the country of origin if their survival is at risk. We can’t be cruel to animals and we must respect their habitat!
