Though the two leaders don’t get along well and share cold relations, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, in a pleasant gesture, on Wednesday asked her party lawmakers not to take Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name while he was present in the Lok Sabha.
The Congress chief stepped in to tell her party lawmakers not to name PM Modi as they escalated attack on the NDA government on a host of issues including the DDCA scam.
The incident occurred when Congress lawmaker Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was in the Well of the House, began to shout a slogan against PM Modi.
Sonia Gandhi, who was present and seated in the front of the Opposition benches, stood up and told the Congress lawmaker that while he must raise slogans against corruption, he should not name the PM.
Surprisingly, no slogan was raised thereafter against PM Modi while he was in the house. The Prime Minister, however, left for a two-day visit to Russia shortly after that.
Importantly, Sonia Gandhi has led the Congress attacks on the NDA government during the entire Winter Session, which came to an end today.
PM Narendra Modi had recently sought to break the ice with Congress president Sonia Gandhi when he met her and former prime minister Manmohan Singh and invited them to his Race Course Road residence.
