The scarcity of water in drought-hit Latur district of Maharashtra has now forced the people to leave their villages.

Around 400 to 500 hundred people have left Latur district in the last four years. These people have moved towards Mumbai, Pune and other big cities in order to lead their lives. These people, who did not have even water to drink in their villages, are getting proper water facilities and even jobs to earn their livelihood.

Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had yesterday announced that Latur would get water by railway tankers. With all the water sources of the city being dried up due to drought of last two years, water scarcity has worsened in Latur from February end.

The authorities in Latur have imposed an order prohibiting the gathering of more than five persons under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in areas around 20 water storage tanks until May 31 to avoid any possible violence over water.

The District Collector imposed the order as a preventive measure to tackle possible violence over water around the Latur civic body-run tanks.
