Drug addiction is the scourge of humanity and narcotics trafficking is a heinous crime punishable by death. The ones who are indulging in drug trafficking and distributing them at each and every corner of the country are committing a major crime. Most of the people fall prey to the narcotics sellers due to their own ignorance about its perils. The youths today are head to toe in drugs. The extent to which this problem has reached is heart rendering. Today kids in the age group of 10-12 have started consuming drugs. Nowadays, there is no part of the world that is free from the curse of drug trafficking and its addiction. Millions of drug addicts, all over the world, are leading miserable lives, between life and death. Alcohol abuse is a complex socio-economic issue that requires a multi-stakeholder and integrated approach towards a drug free society, capture in the National Drug Master Plan.

The disintegration of the old joint family system, absence of parental love and care in modern families where both parents are working, decline of old religious and moral values etc lead to a rise in the number of drug addicts who consume drugs to escape harsh realities of life. Drug trafficking is known as one of the major crime. Addiction ruins lives, tears families apart and leads to homelessness and even death.

Drug trafficking is a scourge that can bring down a mature and intelligent society to intolerable levels of depravity. It is better to nip this crime in the bud so that our country doesn’t follow the horrible western malady.

Creating awareness of dangers of the substance abuse in society and effecting behavioural change are integral parts of the National Drug Master Plan. There should be no leniency when talking about peddlers and pushers who destroy the victim and his kith and kin and put him into unalterable habit which will make the individual commit several crimes including murder and rape. If we need to stop this menace from spreading then harsh steps must be taken and stringent punishment must be awarded to drug peddlers. Only love and affection can help the youth from falling into clutches of drugs. The most effective way to prevent adolescent drug abuse is to invest in youth and keep them interested and involved in life. Government should increase funding for after school programs, mentor programs, skills building/job training programs and summer job programs. Societal control is necessary along with legislation to curb drugs. Let us develop our lives, our communities, and our Identities…Without Drugs.”
