Instead of finding solutions to address farmers hardships Danve is making a mockery of them says Sena and Congress.

Congress and Shiv Sena criticised Maharashtra BJP chief Raosaheb Danve for asking opposition to furnish a guarantee that offering loan waiver will stop farmers suicides in the state. They said that Danve is only making a mockery of farmers and is not bothered about their plight. At a time when farmers are committing suicides due to rising debt burden Danve’s statement only shows his immaturity said Sena and Congress. On one hand BJP is investing crores of rupees in improving infrastructure on the other hand the party has failed to offer loan waiver to farmers.

Even Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also had said that the state’s economy will suffer if farm loans are written off by the government. Sena also added that Danve should refrain from issuing such controversial statements. Danve had issued these statements while visiting Sai Baba temple at Shirdi. Already the opposition parties like NCP and Congress had held sangarsh yatra campaign across the state to highlight the plight of farmers during the BJP led government’s rule in the state.

When AV spoke to Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan he said, “More than 900 farmers have committed suicide till today. Still the government has no plans to offer loan waiver to farmers. Instead of helping them, party leaders are issuing irresponsible statements. Due to arrogance of government Raosaheb Danve is issuing such statements. The farmers of Maharashtra will teach a lesson to BJP.”

RTI activist Anil Galgali said, “When BJP was in the opposition they had demanded that if a single farmer commits suicide then the chief minister should be held responsible and action must be taken against him. But now they are taking a U turn. Instead of finding solutions to address this issue, leaders are a making a mockery of farmers and this shows their immaturity. The senior leadership should oust Danve from BJP to save the party’s image.”

When we tried to contact Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe she remained unavailable for comment.

“Danve has only made fun of farmers and his statement only shows that he is not bothered about the problems faced by them. Instead of working for their welfare he is busy issuing such controversial statements. Loan waiver is not a permanent solution but it is an immediate help that should be given to ensure that farmers live,” said Sena mouthpiece Saamna.

“Nowadays farmers are facing huge hardships due to crop failure. The state government must take steps to provide financial assistance to farmers as they are the backbone of the economy,” it added further.

The Sena claimed that 4,000 farmers have committed suicide in the state in last two years.
