The consumption of harmful eatable products like gutka is rampant in India. Owing to a lack of government supervision, vendors openly sell this dangerous product to people, including children. The problem with the open sale of such injurious substances will continue to persist unless the concerned authorities take strict action. Why do the authorities let vendors sell such harmful products in the first place?
The higher authorities can take the following remedial measures to deal with this persistent problem. First, heavy financial penalties should be imposed on shops that sell substances unfit for human consumption. Businesses like bookshops should be encouraged so that profiteers spend little on products that are destroying the future and health of people.
