
Veteran media personality and Ramoji group chairman Ch Ramoji Rao, who revolutionised the news and entertainment industry, passed away at a hospital early on Saturday. He was 88.
Rao, who had been admitted on June 5 due to respiratory problems, died at 4:50 am, as per Eenadu sources. His mortal remains have been transported to his residence in the renowned Ramoji Film City.
A visionary in the media industry, Rao’s groundbreaking initiatives with Eenadu newspaper and ETV channels garnered him the Padma Vibhushan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the loss, describing Rao as a pioneer who set new standards in media innovation and excellence.
Modi further remarked on X that Rao’s extensive contributions left a permanent mark on journalism and films, adding that he was fortunate to have interacted with Ramoji Rao. Leaders from various sectors, including former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, extended their condolences.
Ramoji Rao’s service to Telugu language and culture will be cherished forever, Venkaiah Naidu stated. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed that Rao’s funeral be conducted with official honors, emphasizing the great loss to the media industry and Telugu community.
Telugu Superstar Chiranjeevi paid an emotional tribute, stating that Rao, likened to an unyielding mountain, is now in the heavenly abode. Rao is survived by his wife and a son.
