JNU Kanhaiya Kumar-AVEarlier in the day, high drama took place outside the Patiala House Court when a group of lawyers assaulted journalists. Also, Kanhaiya Kumar was manhandled by the lawyers outside the courtroom.

Reacting to the events, the Supreme Court rushed a team of six lawyers with police protection to assess the ground situation in the court, hours after it had issued a series of directions to ensure peace in the court in the wake of Monday’s violence.

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said that no clean chit has been given to JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar.

Meanwhile, there are reports of scuffle outside the Patiala House court in Delhi. Lawyers raised slogans outside the court premises. The same lawyers who were seen assaulting journalists and JNU students on the Monday were again leading the protests today. This is the second instance when lawyers have resorted to violence outside the Delhi court. On Tuesday, some lawyers beat up JNU teachers and students, as well as several members of the media, on the court campus. In both instances, the assaulters were led by a Vikram Singh Chauhan.

The court is hearing a sedition case against Kanhaiya Kumar, charged after some students raised anti-India slogans during a public meeting on the JNU campus last week.
