Make sports in schools AV

While addressing the gathering after laying foundation stone for multipurpose Indoor Hall, Swimming Pool and SAI Girls Hostel, in Puducherry, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that sports should be made as a compulsory subject in Schools and Colleges and extra marks should be granted in examinations and there should also be an employment quota for sportspersons.

Nowadays, sports is important as education. Students should compulsorily take part in sports to develop the spirit of sportsmanship. A student should study hard to become successful in competitive examinations. But, he should also play games and sports to enjoy the health and vigour of life. The students should be made aware that sports helps them cultivate team spirit, and set new goals, while it shows them the way to succeed despite odds. Everyone should participate in the sports activity at least for a small duration in a day. Sports are necessary because it brings physical and mental fitness to the person involved in it on a regular basis. A healthy body comes with a healthy mind as well. When students engage in sports actively, they are able to develop a sense of increased alertness. Regular exercise not only keeps a person fit but also confident, energetic and fresh for the rest of the day. It keeps the body flexible and the heart healthy. If we have a look at the history, we see that sports are given much importance from the ancient time. In the modern era, the growing popularity of other entertainment activities like video games, television, etc is decreasing the demand for sports and games in the life. The physique then needs extra fuel. Regular participation in outdoor games in such cases makes the body fit and at the same time gives the relief required. Good health and a peaceful mind are the two most important benefits of sports.

Sports are the best way to get involved in the continuous physical activities. Furthermore, making sports compulsory can increase the possibility of getting college sponsorship. It is very difficult for some students who hail from the lower income families to continue their education due to financial problem. However, students who participate in sports can get an opportunity to pursue studies further through scholarships sponsored by few renowned colleges. It teaches us to go ahead in life by removing all the weaknesses. It makes us bold and gives a feeling of happiness by reducing the occurrence of anxiety and angriness. A person interested in the sports can develop a great body strength and make his/her career bright by participating in any sports at national or international level. Physical problem is the real concern in the modern era. With the growth of obesity due to the mechanical lifestyle, it’s an essential part of staying healthy. It is generally seen that a person involved in sports activity from the very young age, develops a clear and a strong character as well as good health.

Without sports, students will become unhealthy, introvert, individualistic and so on. In addition, discipline problems will arise among students when there is no focus on sports in school. No doubt, studies are very important for children, but sports and physical activities should also be given equal priorities if we want to see a strong and healthy nation. History reveals that only supremacy has the power to rule the nation or person.
