After 10 days of search, the Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday arrested one Mohammad Sanaullah, seems to be the main accused in the gang rape and religious conversion of a Madrasa teacher, from Sohrab Gate area in Meerut. This case was a stray incident as per police officer and if somebody has reason to disbelieve UP Police reports then they can always demand for a CBI probe, as they have done in case of Badaun rape case. UP police says, they always hear some or the other talks of conversion of Christians and Muslims in the state into Hinduism. They have, always, been insisting a thorough investigation on the complaint, in view of the conflicting reports and if found merit, a fair-trail be conducted to hear both the sides, fairly. Sanaullah was apprehended from the Nauchandi Police Station area. Recently, the police had declared a reward of Rs.5,000 to anyone providing information regarding Sanuallah’s whereabouts. Confirming the arrest, Meerut DIG said, teacher alleged that she was abducted by Sanaullah and his two aides on July 23 and was forced to convert on July 29. Sleuths have already arrested Nawab, his wife Samar Jehan, daughter Nishat and Mohammad Kalim in connection with the case. Gul Sannawar and Wakeel Ahmed, aides of Sanaullah, are also in the police net.
Meanwhile, the supplementary report of the Meerut woman’s medical examination has not confirmed that she was gang-raped. The new finding is in contrast to the preliminary report which confirms rape. Team of experts has confirmed that she was sexually assaulted by more than one person. However, experts have suggested more tests of the victim to reconfirm the tubular (ectopic) pregnancy and the operation. Earlier this week, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Omkar Singh had told that the woman was in a relationship with Mohammad Kaleem. Kaleem took the woman to the Meerut Medical College and they signed a consent form as “husband and wife” before she was operated for ectopic pregnancy. Following his arrest, Sanaullah told the police that he was undergoing treatment at a Delhi hospital after suffering chest pain. Sanuallah claimed the complainant had paid for a lawyer to get an affidavit declaring that she was changing her religion. She thought she will get a better job in a madrasa if she changes her religion. Later, she went to a madrasa in Muzaffarnagar on July 29 for a job. However, her request was turned down. So, she stayed in Sanuallah’s house that night, but he was not there in his house that night.
Teacher claims that she was brainwashed to become Muslim since she was 17 by her trained jihadi Muslim friend, then she was subjected to sexual harassment in madrasa by mullah who teaches Quran. She was forced to do an abortion and lost her uterus and fallopian tube, which leads that she will never become mother. The question here is, why she was quiet for three long years and didn’t inform her parents about molestation. Why she continued her service of teaching there? Anyways, how can a guy brainwashed her for such a long time? I don’t deny the possibility that she might have not been molested there but she could have quit at the first instance.
The woman had earlier said four persons, responsible for her sexual abuse, confinement in a madrasa and forced conversion, had bundled her into a van and taken her to a clinic for a rushed surgery. Her relationship with Kaleem surfaced with the help of a call detail report (CDR) in which it was found that the woman had spent hours talking to this man before her disappearance on July 23. That lady, accompanied by Kaleem, had approached local gynecologist Sushila Jairath after she suffered acute pain in her abdomen. After medical examination, the woman was found with ectopic pregnancy, a condition in which the embryo gets implanted in one of the fallopian tubes. She had been carrying this for 45 days. She was prescribed immediate operation. On July 23, the couple reached Meerut Medical College and signed a consent form as ‘husband and wife ‘ after which the surgery began. The woman stayed in the hospital till July 27. Then she again met Kaleem on 29th, during this period her parents filed missing report. The girl might have got scared, as she had undergone surgery.
Police said probes were still on to gather all the facts. The Meerut incident has seen various twists in the past 10 days. Sanaullah’s wife Samar Jahan and the girl’s friend from the village identified as Nishat Anjum (19) already facing the arrest. Politicians across political parties are trying to spread misinformation in the area and fearful people are reacting violently. Rumour mongers have become active in the area and are trying to foment trouble between the communities. Observers point out contradictory statements by police officials. On August 5, referring to the case of alleged conversion and gang rape, ADG Mukul Goel had said the woman was converted, but she was not gang-raped. Within minutes, people from the two communities clashed in Kharkhauda area. Similar clashes were reported on from rural Meerut when Meerut SSP Omkar Singh said the woman had an affair with Kaleem and she was pregnant when admitted to the hospital on July 23.
Meanwhile, to counter the atmosphere of mistrust and rumour, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has asked her party workers to fan across the region, and caution the Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims to not get involved in any violence. However, her move is not without political calculation; Mayawati has been blaming both the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for trying to divide the communities. BJP wanted to make this matter big, so that, they can get political mileage in future. More than 200 cases of communal violence have occurred in Uttar Pradesh in the last two-and-a-half years, and every time BJP activists were behind it. Expect more such incidents in future because the BJP is in power at the Centre and the SP in the state. The BJP won 2014 Lok Sabha elections by dividing the communities. They are continuing with their game plan for the future elections. However, Akhilesh government will give befitting reply to them soon.
Anyways, whatever happened in this case cannot be called as rape. Everything was consensual. It will also be unveiled soon that the girl was forced to raise a false alarm of rape because of pressure from some vested interest for some financial gains as she was jobless and quite desperate to get one.
Moreover, police has her call records, Sms’s and other activities and they are also tracing other things. Let’s see what the investigations prevail further.
