Mumbai cops reach out to stranded people

The Mumbai police have asked people who have got stranded due to heavy rainfall to dial police emergency no 100 or send message on their twitter handle to seek any kind of assistance.

Thousands of Mumbaikars were stranded on railway stations and other places due to disruption in train services, water-logging on streets and slow movement of road traffic.

Police personnel have fanned out on streets and lending a helping hand to the Mumbaikars who are in distress, an official said.

“We are sending our constables to help the Mumbaikars who are in distress. We are trying to provide whatever help they want,” said DCP and Mumbai Police spokesperson Rashmi Karandikar.

In one such incident, police officials from main control room directed the inspector of Sion Police Station to check three school buses which were stuck near Sion hospital in Central Mumbai, she said.

People in need of help can dial 100 or send message on the city police’s twitter handle for assistance, another official said.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner Datta Padsalgikar and Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Deven Bharti were monitoring the situation in Mumbai from the main police control room, the official said.
