The National Federation of Indian Railwaymen has decided to serve Strike Notice on the General Managers of various Zonal Railways and Production Units on 9th June, 2016 in support of the Charter of Demands. The Indefinite Strike will commence in Railways from 11th July, 2016.

NFIR General Secretary Dr M. Raghavaiah who is also the Chairman of the National Joint Council of Action (NJCA) for Central Government employees said that the response of the Central Government on the Charter of Demands submitted to the Government in December 2015 has been very disappointing and casual, consequently the organizations of the Central Government employees – Railways, Defence, Postal, Income Tax, Central Customs & Excise etc., whose number is over 32 lakhs, have taken unanimous decision on 3rd June, 2016 to go on Indefinite Strike from 11th July, 2016.

NFIR General Secretary, Dr M. Raghavaiah said that in terms of Section (22), sub-section (1) and Rule 71 of the Industrial Dispute Act, 1947, the affiliated unions of NFIR representing over 13 lakhs Railway employees will be serving Strike Notice on the GMs of Zonal Railways and Production Units.

Press Secretary/NFIR Somnath Malik said that though the Federation is keen for negotiated settlement, the procrastination of matters by the Government, has compelled the NFIR to decide to serve Strike Notice on 9th June, 2016 for Indefinite Strike from 11th July, 2016. He further said that the VIIth CPC recommendations are retrograde and negative. These are required to be modified through negotiated settlement with Federations of employees of Railways, Defence, Postal, Income Tax etc., in order to maintain industrial relations.
