Betting racket prevails

Controversies concerning cricket betting are haunting Indian Cricket for over 50 years. Even though the Board is washing, its hand saying that no one is involved and then keeping the names of superstar cricketers in a closed cover, the bookies larger syndicate is still working wonders. With IPL season coming up cops identify 29 bookies in cricket betting racket. People involved in betting racket escape because of the huge money they possess earned through the betting circle. The team of fixers are involved in more league and tournaments across the world and earning easy money sitting with lap tops and mobiles in dugout meant for illegal fixing and transferring money to various agencies before being detected by police or CBI. It is an open secret.

Congratulations to Bharat Ratna winners

Conferring Bharat Ratna on Pranab Da is the best thing to happen in recent times. The award went to the deserving person. Though he missed the Prime Minister’s post many times, his tireless focus to the welfare of the country commendable. Thanks to the NDA for honoured him at the right time as a living legend. Pranab Mukherjee, one of the elders of our time deserves such honour and award Nanaji Deshmukh and Bhupen Hazarika have had their contribution in their respective field and their recognition is greatly appreciated. We must all raise to congratulate the recipients and government. It is a pity that Congress chose to compare Pranab Da with Lal Krishna Advani. The latter is great in his own way but not like Pranab Da who has been in government serving nation for seven decades a teacher has risen to this level. All three are distinguished persons in their chosen field. Long live the Republic of India.

 Refreshing move by Prasad

The recent interview of BCCI’s Chairman of Selection Committee MSK Prasad, regarding World Cup cricket selection process, appears to be a refreshing move put up with a clear and concise intent. The selector’s role to pick the squad for the upcoming World Cup cricket tourney will be playing a critical role. As there is no much time left for the World Cup and preparations are yet to begin, the Chairman has struck the right chord by letting the world know that the selection process is almost complete. The decision so made perhaps is an outcome of the recent performance of the young blood during the Australia-New Zealand series, the recently concluded Ranji tournament and the pool of players available from a wide spectrum of talent in domestic cricket.

Hopes of many talented domestic cricket players too shouldn’t be undermined and the selectors should also make the best decision to pick them up for World Cup squad thus helping them to get a chance in the team. It is also welcome to note that as recommended by Lodha Committee, for the matters related to picking up Number 4 batsman and other opportunities that may arise to the World Cup team; the decision rests completely with the Team Management while ensuring zero interference from the Selection Committee. Such a clear stand by BCCI will help the Indian cricket team to focus well on SWOT analysis during the tourney.

Though the decision to trim the BCCI Selection Committee from five members to three members is in place, the implementation of Lodha Committee reforms now has a positive impact for both BCCI administrators and cricket players. It now needs to be seen as to how soon the World Cup squad will be announced by the BCCI Selection Committee and finally pick the best players to the team for the cricket tournament.

Solution to Swine flu

It is a very sorrowful matter that the number of Swine flu affected people is keep on increasing day by day in India, particularly in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and various other states. Children are compelled to use masks in classroom during the study as they have become afraid of such killer diseases. However, unfortunately, the recent government became like a statue, it doesn’t take any corrective step to eradicate this disease and provide the facilities affected children. Everybody is feeling unsafe on the surface of India. I request the government to search for any solution to remove it completely from the country.

 MLA’s murder is condemnable

It was disheartening to learn about the brutal killing of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Satyajit Biswas which has really added the fuel to the raging fire over political violence in West Bengal ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. He was mercilessly shot dead by gang miscreants at a Saraswati Puja event. Now, the incident prompted the ruling TMC party to point an accusing finger toward the BJP which has firmly denied the allegations. However, the incident is totally condemnable and the government must carry out a probe to reach the real factors of murder so that other political leaders of the country should be protected from such bad elements.

Mamata extends support to Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu’s fast

mamata and chandrababu

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday extended support to her Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu over his day-long hunger strike in New Delhi.

He began his fast in the national capital demanding that the Centre grant special status to Andhra Pradesh and fulfil all the promises made before its bifurcation in 2014. “Our party chief Mamata Banerjee has expressed her support towards Chandrababu Naidu’s hunger strike. She asked our party leader Derek O’Brien to visit Naidu at the venue of hunger strike and express solidarity. The opposition stands united in the fight against the Modi government,” a senior Trinamool Congress leader told media.

Brien will visit Naidu, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief, around 12 pm, the leader said. The TDP had walked out of the BJP-led NDA last year protesting the “injustice” done to the state after its bifurcation.

Naidu had last week come down to Kolkata to express his support to Banerjee, who was on a dharna from February 3 to 5 to “save the Constitution” after the CBI’s failed bid to question Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with chit fund cases.

The Andhra Pradesh had also taken part in the mega opposition rally convened by her at the Brigade Parade Ground on January 19.

Be Happy and Enjoy Life!

quote on enjoying life quotes about enjoying life be happy make your life great it is

Most people tend to equate happiness with fun, good living, plenty of money, etc. If happiness were synonymous with this, the rich and influential people with all their luxuries and countless parties would be perpetually happy. However, in actual fact, they are frequently acutely unhappy despite their riches and ability to indulge in fun activities at will.

Happiness remains the goal of every individual whether he or she is the president of the country or a matinee idol or a faceless commuter. Every one of us wants to be happy. But happiness is not a fruit waiting to be plucked off a tree, nor is it sealed and wrapped, complete with an expiry date, available for a price on the nearest supermarket shelf. One can achieve happiness only by working for it, Happiness is perhaps a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but to reach it we must find the way and build a road leading to it, notwithstanding the fact that, at every moment, the horizon appears just that little bit farther away.

The way to happiness is not a smooth, broad highway along which we can cruise at a comfortable speed. It is a path through rocky and rugged terrain and the going can become very tough at times. At these times we have to roll up our sleeves and with pitchfork and shovels make our way towards it. This pursuit of happiness lasts a lifetime and we must be prepared to consistently build on without ever saying “thus far and no farther”.

Great happiness is earned only by great effort, and effort not in spurts but diligent, constant effort. In this connection, we are confronted with another fallacy that fun and pleasure mean happiness and thus pain, its corollary, must be synonymous with unhappiness. It is because of this misconception that people avoid the very endeavour that is the source of true happiness. Things that bring us happiness, more often than not, involve some amount of pain. Difficult endeavours such as the raising of children, establishing deeper relationships with loved ones, trying to do something worthwhile in life hold the promise of a world of happiness but none of them comes without some pain.

Another prevalent belief is that if one were rich enough not to have to work one would be blissfully happy. However, a job is more than just a paycheque. Work holds the key to happiness; doing something which increases confidence and self-worth. It brings on a feeling of satisfaction, of contributing something of value. Job satisfaction comes less from how much one earns than from the challenge of the job. Of course, the pay-cheques matter.

Worrying about the next meal would naturally mean forcing happiness to take a back seat. And if we accept that the satisfaction of our basic needs, as well as the satisfaction of doing something worthwhile, is necessary for happiness, we must also accept the need for consistent effort to achieve this.

A man is not an island entire of itself, he cannot be happy in isolation. Humans live out their lives in the company of their family, friends, colleagues, superiors and even total strangers in buses and lifts. And brick by brick, they must build up their relationship with each one, to lay a secure foundation for their road to happiness. One has to work hard to establish, develop and maintain a deep and lasting bond with those who matter in one’s life. The same thing may be observed in the family as a unit. Happy families value pleasures that involve personal effort. When one builds a house and makes a home, it isn’t the actual construction of the building that makes it so special. Happiness is not in things; it is in us. Happiness becomes the work and love one puts into any achievement as a family.

We often carry a picture of a model family in our heads, but family life does not always match our expectations. Strong families know they cannot anticipate all the twists and turns on the road. Their secret ingredient for happiness includes flexibility rooted in love, understanding and a real desire to overcome the odds. Happiness is not the absence of problems but the ability to deal with them. The potholes must be filled in, the bumps levelled as one trudges on. It is important to accept that one is not, and cannot be, happy all the time. Tragedy strikes in the form of sickness and death. So one must work to overcome the grief and try hard to reconcile them to the sorrow.

True happiness may come from things as simple as hanging out with friends or reading a good book. As Joseph Addison once said, “True happiness arises from the enjoyment of oneself and the friendship and fellowship of companions and kin.”

So be happy and enjoy life. That’s all I want to tell you.

Winds of Change, Modi unwelcomed

lead 3In recent months, a survey conducted by a leading news media revealed that Modi’s popularity has dropped from 53 per cent in January 2018 to 49 per cent in July 2018. PM Modi’s victory saw overwhelming majority especially by the young voters in 2014 elections. However, today, the Modi government has continuously been under attack for various reasons. Huge psychological mood-change can be seen across India among the voters including those who voted for Modi in 2014. While Modi is trying corrective measures to sustain the tide of favour in his court, growing discontent can be observed among the voters as they don’t want to be taken for granted anymore.

Ahead of the elections, it is apparent that the BJP wants to entrap Northeastern states as its new vote bank. In a recent visit to northeast states — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Tripura — PM Modi laid the foundation stones of various development projects to woo the voters. However, Modi faced huge protests and condemnation by the activists in the northeastern states over the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill which commits to provide Indian citizenship and full constitutional rights only to the Hindu migrates arriving from neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Though the bill has provisions for Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, and Christians, it does not include Muslims. This decision by the Centre has evoked the allegations of religious discrimination from human right activists and political parties.

BSP Maharashtra General Secretary Jay Rajkundal stated, “PM Narendra Modi has implemented deadly decisions like demonetisation and GST; the government has given a boost to unemployment. However, since Modi came to the power, the Hindu-Muslim crisis has increased. During Modi’s government, the attacks on Dalits have increased manifold. Modi has failed as the Prime Minister which can be seen through the protests by people in every state.”

Modi received black flags welcome with slogans like “Narendra Modi, Go Back” or “Modi go back, BJP Murdabad” by angry activists from several civil society groups, human right activists across the northeast including the All Assam Students Union (AASU), Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (YJYCP) and from the students of Guwahati University. Nude protests were done across the Guwahati streets, fierce condemnations were done by burning effigies of the PM. CM Sonowal, and Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were also targeted in protest by AASU.

Fierce agitations have also been intensified across Nagaland, Manipur, and Tripura by the regional parties and civil society groups in a call to boycott of the Prime Minister’s tour. Interestingly, the BJP’s former alliance party the ‘Asom Gana Parishad’ also staged a massive torchlight march against the discriminatory bill on Friday evening in Assam. Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar too saw massive protests from students of Rajiv Gandhi University, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) and Himalayan University too staged a protest against the PM and his party.

Modi tried to assure the entire Northeast that the Citizenship Bill won’t affect their interests and that the government will try to uphold the cultural ethos of the region.

BJP MP CR Patil told Afternoon Voice, “The people, who don’t belong to our nation and have penetrated in the country, have protested against Narendra Modi. The citizens are happy with the Prime Minister. He is always working for the welfare of the nation. He will be victorious in the elections.”

While the recent Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh election results revealed that the hypnotised voters of the BJP have came out of the Modi’s hangover; West Bengal too seems to be a tough ground for Modi and clan as the TMC too protested strongly in rallies on the streets of Kolkata against the NDA government with ‘Anti-Modi and Anti-BJP’ posters when CM Mamata Banerjee was on a dharna against the confrontation between the West Bengal government and the CBI.

On Sunday, Modi faced a row of protests in Andhra Pradesh as CM Chandrababu Naidu too protested against him. Modi has taken the ball in his stride by sternly retorting Naidu that he is grateful to TDP that they have asked him to retain the same position in Delhi. Discordant voices can be heard from BJP’s former alliance parties Rashtriya Lok Samata Party from Bihar, the ‘Asom Gana Parishad’ and the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra on various issues, whereas, the opposition fronts too are fastening their belts to penetrate Modi’s invincible fort. Political unrest has begun in India as the opposition parties are coming together with a single-minded determination to stop the Modi government from repeating the previous victory.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Tariq Anwar said, “PM Modi has lost his credibility. Commitment and assurances given by him remained unfulfilled. PM Modi knows how to polarise the votes on communal lines. The Rafale scam exposure has diluted his anticorruption image. BJP will see its decline in upcoming elections.”

Though the brand Modi has surely been overused and apparently the magic is now wearing off, the mighty fighter Modi is fighting back in full vigour with new strategists ahead, like alleged hijacking of media or subdued strategy for social media sees Modi’s fiercely venomous supporters on social media mellowing down these days. During his tenure, certain policies might have worked against him like demonetisation, GST, digitisation, failure of creating the jobs, failure of promise to deposit Rs 15 lakhs in common man’s accounts.

If NDA government sustains next polls, Modi can still be considered a strong contender for the prime ministerial post because of two aspects in his favour i.e. the absence of potential alternative of his stature and the personal credibility within his party.

Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik asserted, “Whatever Narendra Modi promised to the people while campaigning for the 2014 polls, all landed up being Jumlas. Indian citizens were fed up with the Congress and were looking for an alternative; they elected Modi and he too has disappointed everyone in the last four and half years.”

He went on saying, “Many parties supported Modi’s campaigns in 2014 but now the same parties have turned against him. The political scene of this country has changed and Modi wave is also faded now.”

We, the Slaves of Independent India

After Gandhiji was shot dead, there is still a debate; some think it as a reaction for the action taken during India-Pak separation. Lakhs of innocent lives were sacrificed for no reason and that was the first brutal communal riot under the Congress rule after independence. Even today, Nathuram Godse is labeled as a Hindu terrorist and Gandhi’s killing is labeled as the first terror activity. Why did Godse kill Gandhi? I think that’s a fair question to ask before labeling him a madman? By saying this, I am not endorsing Gandhi’s killing but just putting across a thought that the extreme of everything ends with tragedy and disaster. Hindustan got its freedom with separation and innocent killings and there started the Congress rule and communal violence. Gandhiji’s one decision ruined the peace of this country and between the two communities even today.

Though, even during his last moments, Gandhiji was in favour of peace and intolerance. Today, many of us have become intolerant towards others’ point of view. At least we should introspect on what principles our country’s freedom was based on and where we are heading today, instead of blindly mimicking the West in everything. Stop praising or criticising someone blindly; none of the principles or philosophies suggested by Gandhi was his own. As the situation permitted then, he advised people to behave. We actually don’t know what forced him to take such drastic decision of dividing the country; if this decision wouldn’t have been taken then, no separation issues ever erupted in India.

Now, there is no one like Mahatma to guide the country or the Congress, there is a severe leadership crunch. None can inspire us with their oration and lead the countrymen; people during the times of Nehru and Gandhiji were indeed fortunate to have leaders like them or we are seeing a better leader than them, is still a debate! Whatever may be said about Nehruji, there is no denying that he was a great orator and his ability to put together a few sentences that make at once both a lasting impact, as well as a pithy pen-picture of the matter at hand, is nonpareil. Where have all such orators gone, those who could inspire with just the spoken word? We have no politician alive today in India who can match Nehruji in this area and on the world stage, perhaps, only Barack Obama comes close.

We are the fourth generation after Mahatma’s death that talks volumes about his words and deeds. Mahatma is the most loved and hated freedom fighter of this country. Gandhi’s deeds are the noblest and place him on the top of the world leaders. India’s rich culture is emboldened through the lives of such towering personalities. A pain undertaken by Gandhi during his lifetime are immeasurable today but so is the pain Indians bear in coping to live amidst the directions of today’s leaders. On the other hand, what Godse spoke after the assassination of Gandhi should also be published and emphasised everywhere. Then perhaps, he can be condemned unanimously by one and all to the hell, but before that he derives an explanation. Gandhiji was really greatest among the leaders of the Indian freedom struggle, especially due to his broad mindedness to forgive others, by which he was elevated to the divine level and his life was the living example of the dictum. At the same time, it is easy to criticise Mahatma but it is very difficult to raise our lives to the spiritual heights of pardoning everyone for everything instantly. There were many freedom fighters like Godse, Savarkar, and Tilak who were labeled as extremists at that time, just because they were not buying Gandhiji’s peace approach by dividing this country. Nehru was born with a silver spoon, however, Gandhi had his own good time, and there were many rich and prosperous freedom fighters with their own political ambitions at that time. However, people like Lala Lajpatrai, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sardar Patel, and Sarojini Naidu were given back seat when it came to ruling the country. Anyways, that era of politics was much more polluted and was on the line of dynasty rule.

Savarkar has suffered rigorous imprisonment in Andaman under the British. There is again a debate on whether Savarkar was a freedom fighter or not? He appealed for clemency when jailed and gave an undertaking not to take part in any struggle. Let it be Gandhi, Nehru, or the other freedom fighters, everyone has contributed to the freedom of this country. Some are worshipped and some are forgotten heroes. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel said a bitter thing in 1948 that the government should take strict action against such radical organisations or the history may repeat itself in future too. Communal and caste factors have been among the politics all along especially more so during elections. Now, the art area is giving more and more place for this among writers and film personalities. The press and other media including the social speakers should better avoid these topics in totality and leave to the politicians who are handling much better since all the parties are trying to satisfy the minorities and religious people.

Now, sometimes I feel that we lack freedom of expression and sometimes looking at the other media channels, it seems to me that we are taking this right for granted. The primary issue in this country is the so-called freedom of expression. In the name of SC/ST atrocities, all sorts of corrupt despotic leaders like, Mayawati, Ram Vilas Paswan etc. have started to teach him a lesson using such an obnoxious clause. Understand how our law maintenance organisations and corrupt legal systems deal with such cases getting illegal gratifications through courts where such cases are dealt. On the contrary, in this information age under the obnoxious clause of OFFICIAL SECRETS ACT, corruption is happily sustained in defense and security establishments away from public glare! We Indians are used to straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel. What is the use of discussions and debates if we cannot say what we want to say?

India is suffering from various issues; Mahatma and Nehru might have got the freedom to this country, but they left it in the clutch of dirty political legacy. Mahatma was pleading to demolish the Congress if the country has to live at peace. Our hierocratic ruling party and politicians use these names only for political gains but never implement what he wanted them to do. Extremism is nothing but answers to the atrocities. Why to blame people like Nathuram Godse who could see thousands of innocent killings and separation of such a large country just because of one man’s foolish decision to please his blue-eyed boy.

We, the Indians, are slaves in this Independent country. If this continues, expect the reincarnation of the Goddess.

Temp dips to 3 deg Cel in Nashik, grape growers light bonfires

Cold winter

The minimum temperature dipped to 3 degree Celsius in Nashik district of Maharashtra, forcing grape growers to set up bonfires to save the crop from damage, officials said on Sunday.

Two bodies of beggars were also found on the Godavari river’s bank in the city on Saturday evening, with police suspecting that they died of severe cold conditions, an official at Panchavati police station said.

The unidentified bodies were later sent to the Civil Hospital for post mortem, he said.

A minimum temperature of 3 degree Celsius was recorded in Niphad tehsil, the agricultural belt in the district famous for grape production, at 7 am on Saturday, a MeT department official said.

Frozen dew drops on sugarcane, wheat and grapevines prompted the farmers to light bonfires to save the crops from perishing, an official at the district collectorate said.

As day temperatures also remained low and cold conditions persisted, people in the city were seen lighting bonfires to keep themselves warm.

Cold conditions are likely to continue in the district for next two to three days, the MeT official added.

Man kills pregnant wife, sleeps beside corpse before surrendering

dead body 1A man allegedly killed his pregnant wife and slept beside the corpse through the night before alerting police in the morning in Maharashtra’s Osmanabad district, an official said on Saturday.

Omerga tehsil resident Vinod Dhansing Pawar had an argument with his wife Priyanka Rathod on Thursday night and strangled her, a Murum police station official said.

“He then slept beside the body and came to the police station on Friday morning to confess to his crime and surrender,” the official informed.

He said Pawar was a borewell commission agent while Rathod was a nurse at Tuljapur, adding that the couple had married nine months ago and the deceased was five-month pregnant.

The woman’s kin have told police that the accused used to demand money from her parents and this led to frequent quarrels, the official said.

A case of murder has been registered and further probe was underway, he added.

Once under ISIS influence, men in Maharashtra make a new beginning

bccl

Jamil Ansari (name changed) runs a mobile phone repair shop in Maharashtra’s Beed district. But, nobody would imagine that only two years ago, he was on the verge of joining the dreaded terror outfit ISIS by travelling to Iraq, thousands of kilometres away.

Thanks to an initiative of the Maharashtra Anti- Terrorism Squad (ATS), Ansari changed his mind and underwent an employment training programme after escaping clutches of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) online ‘recruiters’ who had almost radicalised him.

He is not the only one. There are many such young men in Maharashtra, mainly in the industrially backward Marathwada region, who had once fallen victim to ISIS’ propaganda but are now leading a normal life with the help of the employment training programme, a senior ATS official told PTI.

Ansari, a 35-year-old graduate, lost his job as a salesman in 2016 and began spending a lot of time surfing online, where he came in contact with some ISIS sympathisers and soon got radicalised.

“His online activities brought him under our scanner,” the official said.

The ATS sleuths realised that Ansari had become a victim of ISIS propaganda and he was counselled in a bid to de-radicalise him, he said.

The official said the ATS runs a de-radicalisation programme for such people to once again join the mainstream with the help of religious leaders and clerics.

In Marathwada, the ATS in the last two years identified as many as 400 young men who were suspectedly under the influence of ISIS.

CM Naidu to sit on hunger strike in Delhi demanding special status for AP

naiduTDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will sit on a day-long hunger strike in the national capital on Monday demanding special status for his state and fulfilment of commitments made by the Centre under the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The Telugu Desam Party had walked out the BJP-led NDA last year protesting the “injustice” done to Andhra Pradesh after its bifurcation.

Naidu will stage the ‘Dharma Porata Deeksha’ (a day-long protest for justice) at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in the national capital from 8 am to 8 pm on Monday. He will also submit a memorandum to President of India Ram Nath Kovind on February 12, an official statement said.

The chief minister will sit on a hunger strike along with his ministers, party MLAs, MLCs and MPs. Members of state employee associations, social organisations and student organisations will also join the fast, it said.

Naidu is scheduled to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat and also to the Ambedkar Statue at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan before sitting on the hunger strike. Leader of several opposition parties are expected to extend their solidarity to the Andhra Pradesh chief minister’s protest, the statement said.

It may be noted that Naidu had staged an indefinite fast at the Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in October 2013, demanding that if a separate state is carved out of then unified Andhra Pradesh, both should get equal justice. He was forcibly shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital the fifth day after his health deteriorated.

Last year, the chief minister had observed fast Vijayawada on his birthday on April 20 demanding special status for the state.

After quitting the NDA in March last year, the TDP had also moved a ‘no-confidence motion’ in the Monsoon session of Parliament in July 2018, which was defeated.
