The Mangaluru autorickshaw blast is likely to be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), sources said on Monday.
The police have identified the accused as Sharik, who has been admitted to the Father Muller Hospital in Karnataka’s Mangaluru after he sustained 40-45 percent burn injuries due to a low-intensity blast that broke out in an autorickshaw in the Kankanadi police station area in the Mangaluru city at around 5 pm on Saturday.
The auto driver and the passenger sustained burn injuries and have been admitted to the hospital, the Commissioner of Police (CP) of Mangaluru City N Shashi Kumar said on November 19.
Notably, in a major breakthrough in the Mangaluru autorickshaw blast case on Sunday, Additional Director General of Police Alok Kumar visited the spot and said that the bomb was implanted with an aim to disrupt harmony in the area.
“There was an attempt to disrupt harmony in the area,” the senior police official said. ADGP Kumar also informed that the blast was a low-intensity explosion.
“It was a low-intensity IED explosion. There was an attempt to disrupt harmony in the area, and it was averted. Right now, we’ve no info to suggest this blast related to the Coimbatore blast,” he added.
In the wake of the horrific Shraddha Walker murder case in the national capital, another similar case has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Azamgarh, where the body of a woman was chopped and disposed of in distant locations.
According to the Azamgarh Police, they have recovered the body of the deceased who was identified as Aradhana Prajapati, from Paschim Patti village under the Ahraula police station of Azamgarh district, while the main accused in the case, identified as Prince Yadav, has been arrested.
As per the police statement, the disposed of body parts of the deceased have been recovered from two different locations, with the skull having been found in a pond, which is at a distance of 6 km from the well where the rest of the chopped body parts were recovered from.
The alleged murder took place on November 10, while the body of the deceased was found in a well on November 15.
According to the police statement, the family of the deceased woman had filed a missing person’s report which said that she was missing since November 10.
On November 15, the local police found the body parts of a woman in a well with the head missing.
According to the police statement, when approached by the police, the family partially confirmed the identity of the deceased, however, due to the skull missing, they were not convinced.
Following this, on November 19, the police detained one Prince Yadav, who was found to be the ex-boyfriend of the deceased girl, said the police.
As per the police, after questioning, Prince confessed to his involvement in the crime. The police then took Prince to the crime spot and it was at his identification that the police were able to recover the head of the deceased woman from a pond some six kilometres away from the well, as per the police statement.
According to the police, Prince was arrested on Sunday following an encounter, when he tried to escape from the spot where the police had taken him to recover the missing head of the woman.
Another accused in the incident, Sarvesh Yadav, who is Prince’s cousin, is absconding, as per the police. A total of nine people have been involved in the crime, either in the execution of the plot to kill the woman or harbouring the culprits, according to the police.
Speaking to media, Anurag Arya, Superintendent of Police, Azamgarh said, “A dead body of an unidentified woman was found in a well on November 16. The head was missing and the rest of the body parts were missing. It was a challenge for the police, it was a crime related to the women. 5 police teams were on the job to work out the case. The accused has been arrested today. The prime accused in the case, Prince Yadav was arrested today after a police encounter. He sustained a bullet injury in his right leg. Illegal arms have been recovered from him.”
The official said that the accused had a relationship with the deceased two years ago. The woman was married in February this year when Prince was outside the country. Upon knowing about the marriage, the accused returned to the country and plotted to kill the woman.
“After the interrogation, it came to the fore that he had a relationship with the deceased two years ago. The deceased was married this year in February. He was outside the country then. When he came to know about her marriage, he was offended and returned to India. He attempted to threaten the deceased to break her marriage and also lured her to stay with him. He was aided by his relatives which include his maternal side and also his parents. When the woman did not agree, he along with his parents and cousin named Sarvesh hatched a plan to kill her and dump her body in such a way that it could not be recovered and he could not be caught,” the police official said.
Detailing the plot, the SP said that Prince had taken her out in the name of visiting a temple and strangled her to death in a sugarcane field.
“He called the woman on November 10, and roamed with her in the name of visiting a temple, and took her to the field of his maternal side and strangled her to death. To dispose of the body, he along with Sarvesh Yadav chopped it by keeping it on a wooden log. He threw the rest of the parts into the well, and threw the head in a pond along with her clothes,” he said.
Arya said that the recovery of the deceased’s clothes and other pieces of evidence has been accomplished. “Based on the interrogation, the police have recovered everything. The clothes of the deceased have also been recovered. The wooden log on which the incident took place has been recovered. Evidence collection has been done from the field. There are a total of nine accused, of which one Prince Yadav has been arrested. The other accused Sarvesh Yadav, who is Prince’s uncle’s son is absconding. An award of Rs 25,000 has also been announced,” he said.
The other accused in the incident will be arrested soon, the official said. “There are 7 others who were involved either in the planning of the incident or in harbouring the culprits. They will be arrested soon,” he said.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
In another horrific incident that came to the fore earlier this month in the national capital, Shraddha Walker, a woman from Maharashtra was allegedly strangled to death by her live-in partner, who was identified as Aftab Poonawalla. In the latest development in the case, the officials of Delhi Police on Sunday continued the probe in the dense forest area of South Delhi’s Mehrauli with an aim to recover the dismembered body parts of Shraddha Walker, believed to be disposed of by her murderer Aaftab Amin Poonawala across the national capital.
Earlier, Delhi police, after recovering around 12 suspected body parts disposed of by Aaftab, the accused in the Shraddha murder case, later brought him to the jungle to recover other body parts, according to police sources on November 13.
According to the sources, Aftab, during his interrogation, told the police that after killing Shraddha and chopping her body into 35 pieces, he had first disposed of those parts which could stink quickly.
Sena (Uddhav) leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday demanded the removal of Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari over an “old idol” remark on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj while also seeking Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s resignation on the matter.
Speaking to the media, Raut took on Shinde and questioned if he has the “self-respect” that the Shiv Sena leader claimed, Shinde had cited during the rebellion against the Shiv Sena. This comes after the Maharashtra Governor struck a controversy on Saturday by calling the Maratha ruler an “old idol”.
Slamming the Maharashtra government for keeping “silent” on the issue, Raut said, “The Governor has insulted Shivaji Maharaj four times in one year. Still, the government is silent. PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah consider Shivaji Maharaj as an idol and their national spokesperson said that Shivaji Maharaj apologised to Aurangzeb five times. Is this the BJP’s official stand? BJP should apologise to Maharashtra and remove the Governor right away.”
Accusing the BJP of “insulting” Shivaji Maharaj openly, Raut asked CM Shinde to step down from his post. “I am surprised that the Chief Minister who gave the slogan of self-respect and broke Shiv Sena and formed the government with the BJP, where has your self-respect gone now? The BJP is openly insulting Shivaji Maharaj. You should resign. If you have respect for Shivaji Maharaj, why are you in the government with them?” he said.
Earlier on Saturday, Raut took a jibe at the BJP and said that the party is protesting against Rahul Gandhi’s remarks against Veer Savarkar, and they should now protest against the Raj Bhavan. “His statement is an insult to Maharashtra and Shivaji Maharaj. BJP is carrying out protests against Rahul Gandhi’s remarks against Veer Savarkar. They are hitting out with shoes. Now the shoes should go to the Raj Bhavan from where remarks are being made against Shivaji Maharaj. Then you are the son of Maharashtra, otherwise, you are fake,” Raut said.
Addressing a function at Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University in Aurangabad, the Maharashtra governor had remarked that Shivaji Maharaj has become an “old idol” and the new ones could be found in Babasaheb Ambedkar to Nitin Gadkari. “If someone asks who your idol is, you don’t have to go out looking for one. You will find them right here in Maharashtra. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has become an old idol now, you can find new ones — from Babasaheb Ambedkar to (Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways) Nitin Gadkari,” he had said.
An emotive and iconic figure in Maharashtra, transcending political affiliations, the governor’s remark on the Maratha warrior did not go down well with leaders.
A spokesperson for the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena condemned the governor’s statement saying he is known to disrespect great leaders. “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not only our deity but our source of inspiration. He will always be the idol for all of us,” Anand Dubey, a spokesman for the Uddhav Sena said in a statement. “Going by the governor’s statements, even Lord Ram and Lord Krishna have become old idols. Must we find new deities now to worship?” Dubey asked, adding that the governor’s statement should be strongly condemned.

A woman in Bihar’s Katihar has filed a complaint in the district court alleging that she was married to a Muslim man from Dubai who pretended to be a Hindu. She alleged ‘love jihad’ claiming that the man she is married to was pressuring her to convert to his religion.
According to the woman, who was identified as Julie, the man who claimed to be Raj Singh, was originally named Tauquir and lives in Dubai. The woman further said that they had met on the social media platform Facebook and got married in 2017.
“I told him to take me home after marriage, but he kept neglecting me. Then, one day I came to know from his sister that he is Tauquir, not Raj Singh. He belongs to Supaul and lives in Dubai now. His entire family is now forcing me to become a Muslim.
They are forcing me to eat beef. I cook my food separately,” the woman alleged. She further alleged that Tauquir was pressuring her to convert and live at his place. “He is threatening that he will kill my entire family,” Julie alleged.
Her lawyer, Rajiv Karn claimed, “It is not a new incident for Seemanchal. Love jihad is being spread like a racket. There is foreign funding in this. If the police don’t take action in this regard, there will be catastrophic results in the future.” Further investigation into the matter is underway.
Former US President Donald Trump’s Twitter account reappeared on Sunday after Elon Musk confirmed to reinstate his account. Elon Musk on Sunday confirmed to reinstate Trump’s Twitter account.
“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” tweeted Musk. Vox Populi, Vox Dei, a Latin phrase meaning “the voice of the people is the voice of God.” Meanwhile, Trump’s account reappeared on Twitter after Musk’s announcement. Trump’s once-blocked Twitter account reappeared on the platform Saturday, minutes after company owner Elon Musk announced he was lifting the 22-month suspension on the former president over incitement of violence.
Twitter CEO Musk has put up a poll asking users of the microblogging website to vote on whether to reinstate the account of Trump, who was earlier subjected to a lifetime ban over incitement of violence. “Reinstate former President Trump,” the billionaire Twitter owner posted, with a chance to vote either yes or no. “Trump poll getting ~1M votes/hour,” he said in a subsequent tweet. As per the survey, slightly over 15 million Twitter users voted in the poll with 51.8 per cent voting in favour of reinstatement. Trump had appeared less than keen earlier in the day. “I don’t see any reason for it,” the former president said via video when asked whether he planned to return to Twitter by a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting.
Trump, who on Tuesday launched a bid to regain the White House in 2024, praised Musk and said he had always liked him. But Trump also said Twitter suffered from bots, and fake accounts and that the problems it faced were “incredible”. Earlier in 2020, Trump’s account was suspended in the wake of the January 6 insurrection at Capitol Hill following the US Presidental elections, resulting in legal troubles for the former US President.
This new policy is no surprise as the world’s richest man has made several decisions in this manner, including one to buy Twitter.
On Friday, Musk began reinstating accounts that were previously subject to indefinite bans for breaking the platform’s rules. Author Jordan Peterson and comedian Kathy Griffin were among the first people whose accounts were reinstated.
“New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach. Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted and demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter. You won’t find the tweet unless you specifically seek it out, which is no different from rest of Internet,” Musk said in an earlier tweet.
Unimpressed by the recent changes brought in by the new Twitter CEO, a group of US senators asked the country’s antitrust regulator to oversee the social media platform’s consent decree and compliance with consumer privacy laws. “We write regarding Twitter’s serious, willful disregard for the safety and security of its users, and encourage the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate any breach of Twitter’s consent decree or other violations of our consumer protection laws,” reads the letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair Lina Khan, which was signed by seven Democratic senators including Richard Blumenthal and Elizabeth Warren.
The US lawmakers claimed that Twitter’s new Chief Executive Officer, has taken alarming steps that have undermined the integrity and safety of the platform.
The letter also noted the recent layoffs and resignations that have hit the company since Musk took over Twitter last month. They claimed that Musk has only prioritized increasing profits while disregarding other key aspects of the company.

A Delhi Police team on Saturday recorded the statements of two men in Maharashtra’s Palghar from whom 27-year-old Shraddha Walkar, who was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala in May this year, had sought assistance after she was assaulted by the accused in 2020, officials said.
The team is in Manikpur in Palghar district’s Vasai, which is the native area of the victim and where the couple had stayed before shifting to the national capital.
The official identified the two witnesses, whose statements are being recorded as Rahul Ray and Godwin. Both of them are residents of Vasai region.
The process of recording the statement of one person was complete and the other’s was in progress, he added.

Giving details of these two witnesses, the official said one of them is a rickshaw driver and the other is currently unemployed.
The four-member Delhi police team, which landed in Mumbai on Friday, had earlier recorded the statement of Shraddha’s friend Laxman Nadar, the official said.
