100pc political vendetta coming out of PMO: Rahul Gandhi on National Herald case

RGReiterating that it was political vendetta as far as National Herald case was concerned; Congress vice president said on Wednesday that it was BJP’s way of doing politics.

“100 per cent political vendetta coming out of PMO. This is their way of doing politics,” Rahul said while coming out of Parliament.

Asked about Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu’s charge that Congress was using Parliament to threaten judiciary (by disruption), he said, “It is the other way round. Who is threatening judiciary.  We all know.”

However, he added, “I have full faith in judiciary. Truth will come out.”

In Chennai, as the National Herald case involving Congress’ top brass snowballed, a defiant Rahul Gandhi had charged the BJP with adopting “vendetta politics” and vowed to continue questioning the Narendra Modi government and not “budge an inch.”

“Let them do what they want. They can do whatever they want to. I am not going to budge one inch. The same questions I am asking the Prime Minister (Modi) or the government, I am going to continue asking them,” Rahul had told.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and others were directed to appear in person on December 19 by a Delhi court which allowed their plea seeking exemption from personal appearance for the day in the National Herald case.

Senior advocates Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Harin Raval and Ramesh Gupta appeared for the Gandhis and other accused and moved separate pleas seeking exemption from personal apperance for their clients for today only.

“We are very keen to come before the court,” Singhvi told Metropolitan Magistrate Lovleen, adding, “Please give us a date of your choice and that of the convenience of Dr. Subramanian Swamy.”

Swamy, who has filed the case, however, told the court that there are seven accused in the case and today’s date was fixed in September itself.

The magistrate, however, told the defence counsel to ensure that all the accused appear before the court on the next date of hearing on December 19.

Delhi High Court rejects to restrain odd-even vehicle formula, says its ‘Premature’

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to restrain the city government from enforcing its decision to allow even and odd number cars to ply in Delhi on alternative dates, saying the decision is on a “trial basis”.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath refused to pass any order on two PILs against Delhi government’s a decision and posted the matters for December 23.

“It’s premature. Why are you filing these petitions? Delhi government is discussing this with groups of people. They will implement it from January 1, 2016 on trial basis. There is no policy/notification now. There is a proposal. You can`t use these PILs just to pressurise the government,” said the bench while adjourning the case.

Appearing for the Delhi government, advocate Rahul Mehra opposed the pleas, saying the government has been discussing the issue with groups of people and the pleas should be dismissed.

One PIL was filed by advocate Shweta Kapoor and the other by Sarvesh Singh.

One of the PILs said the government announced its plan to restrict the number of cars on roads without first conducting a public debate and a study of the pros and cons of a system based on whether the registration number of a motor vehicle ends in an even or odd digit.

It said the decision taken without considering the disturbing effect it would have on the public at large.

To bring down the increasing air pollution level in the national capital, the Delhi government has decided that from January 1, private vehicles would be allowed to run on the streets on alternate dates depending on whether their licence plates end in odd or even numbers.

Narendra Modi to visit Pakistan next year, says Sushma Swaraj

Amid growing tension over various security issues and to pitch for better bilateral ties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit, which will be held in Pakistan in 2016.

The 19th SAARC summit in Islamabad will be hosted by Pakistan and this was announced by Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while addressing the 18th SAARC summit held in the Nepal.

Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in her statement in Islamabad on Wednesday confirmed that Modi will attend the SAARC summit in Pakistan and also hinted that she will also come along with the Prime Minister.

She said that India is ready to work with Afghanistan and Pakistan claiming that “the heart of Asia cannot function if its arteries are clogged.”

She extended a hand of cooperation to Pakistan and said that India is ready to adjust to Pakistan’s pace and work with them.

“India extends its hand to Pakistan as well. It is time that we display the maturity and self confidence to do business with each other. For its part, India is prepared to move the cooperation at a pace which Pakistan is comfortable with,” Swaraj had said.

The External Affairs Minister claimed that it is the “collective duty of all to ensure that the forces of terrorism and extremism do not find sanctuaries and safe heavens in any name form or manifestations.”

FIR lodged against Russian diplomat for rash driving, arrest unlikely

An FIR was registered on Wednesday against a diplomat from the Russian embassy, who was booked for rash driving and assaulting a traffic police cop on duty.

However, the Russian official is not likely to be arrested because of the diplomatic immunity enjoyed by the foreign delegates.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police is also sending a detailed report relating to the matter to the Home Ministry.

The Russian diplomat, who was severely intoxicated, rammed into a police barricade in Moti Bagh late last night and also rear-ended a motorbike, injuring two people.

The incident happened late last night around 1:30 am when the diplomat was asked to stop by the police after his car hit a bike. However, instead of stopping, he slammed his car into the barricade.

The diplomat refused to come out of the car and allegedly punched and abused a constable on duty.

“He was so intoxicated that he could not control the car and he was practically unconscious. He was driving really fast and was unable to stop. His car is so badly damaged and this is proof of how hard he rammed into the police barricade. When the police tried to get him out of the car, he refused to do so,” one of the bikers who sustained minor injuries said.

Besides the other biker who has been admitted in AIIMS, the Russian official also sustained injuries and was seen with a heavily bleeding nose.

The diplomat was later taken away by his friend, who had a lengthy discussion with the police.

Congress heavyweight Narayanasamy holds slippers for Rahul Gandhi, says ‘proud of it’

At a time when Congress has been attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his autocratic functioning, a new video showing its senior leader bowing down and placing a pair of slippers before Rahul Gandhi as he toured the flood-hit Puducherry has now raised questions over alleged ‘culture of sycophancy’ prevalent in the party.

The video, which has become viral on social media, has come as a major embarrassment for the Congress party, which has been very critical of Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah.

The video shows veteran Congress leader and former Union minister V Narayanasamy bending before Rahul Gandhi – a junior to him in politics but senior in the party hierarchy – and offering him a pair of slippers to wear as the Congress vice president removed his shoes and decided to tour the flood-hit Puducherry bare foot.

In the video, the Congress vice president is seen putting the slippers on without much fuss.

Narayanasamy, who represents Puducherry, has categorically dismissed criticism and references to the much-criticised ‘culture of sycophancy’ in the country’s oldest political party.

“As a courtesy, I offered my chappals as Rahul Gandhi removed his shoes to walk barefoot in the water,” said the 68-year-old Congress veteran.

What is wrong in it. He was our guest and we have a tradition of welcoming guests in south, Narayanasamy commented.

Referring to a question on ‘culture of sycophancy’ in Congress, Narayanasamy said, “We don’t have such a culture in the party. Rahul carried his shoes throughout and he didn’t even let his security personnel carry them for him.”

I am very proud of my leader Rahul Gandhi and what I did for him, he added.

Narayanasamy was minister of state with the Prime Minister’s Office in the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government which lost power last year.

Besides Puducherry, Rahul Gandhi also visited Chennai, which is struggling in the aftermath of massive flooding after record rainfall last week.

Ranveer Singh says he was ‘Born to Play’ Bajirao

RanveerActor Ranveer Singh, who will soon be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, said that he always wanted to play the role of a warrior onscreen.

Bajirao Mastani casts Ranveer as Maratha leader Peshwa Bajirao I, Deepika Padukone as his warrior queen Mastani and Priyanka Chopra as his first wife Kashibai.

“At a critical stage of my career, I have given more than one year to a project and haven’t done anything else. Also, I went bald. This project has taken so much time. You could do three films meanwhile. It’s a big gamble. It’s a risk. But, somewhere I knew that it would pay off. It will be worth the effort,” said Ranveer.

“When I decided to do it, a lot of well-wishers asked me if I was sure about doing the film. And now that the trailer is out, they see it and understand why I did it,” added Ranveer.

The Gunday actor said that he always wanted to play a warrior and a gangster onscreen.

“I always wanted to play the character of a yodha. I also want to play a gangster. But in my eighth film, I got a chance to play a mahayodha. It is a moment of joy. My name is Ranveer and it means yodha, warrior. I think I was born to play this part. I like the genre of historical drama. So, I was waiting to do a film like this. I was excited about it,” said Ranveer.

“When I heard the script, I understand that it’s a challenge as there are war sequences, emotional drama and the canvas is huge. All of this is going to be difficult and will require a lot of hard work. There is no simple day. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, everything is grand and huge. It’s like getting ready used to take two and a half hours,” added Ranveer. Ranveer also said that there is no formula for success.

“Nobody has a formula to know what is going to be a success or what is not going to be a success. You should trust your creative instincts. I was very excited about this film as it’s a powerful story,” said Ranveer.

Bajirao Mastani is scheduled to release on December 18.

RaniRani Mukerji on Wednesday welcomed her first child, daughter Adira, and the actress says the baby is God’s greatest gift for her and husband Aditya Chopra.

A healthy Adira was born on Wednesday morning at Breach Candy Hospital. The 37-year-old actress thanked her fans, friends and well wishers for their “unconditional support and blessings”.

“I would like to thank all my well wishers and fans. Today life has given us God’s greatest gift with Adira. We thank fans our friends and well wishers for their unconditional support and blessings. With joy we begin this new chapter in our lives,” Rani said in a statement. Yash Raj Films, headed by 44-year-old Aditya, made the announcement on their official Twitter account.

“Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra become proud parents to a baby girl named ‘Adira’,” the post read.

Wishes have started pouring in from Bollywood, with filmmaker Karan Johar, actor Ayushmann Khurrana and Parineeti Chopra being the first ones to congratulate the couple.

Rani and Aditya secretly tied the knot in April last year in Italy. It is the first marriage for Rani while Aditya, who is known to be a very private person, was previously married to Payal Khanna but they got divorced in 2009.

Government must focus on sustainable growth

In India, we require growth that can be sustained over a long period of time. Solar Energy can be used to generate electricity, cooking, heating and drying. Solar-powered electrical generating systems help you reduce your impact on the environment and save money at the same time! Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced at Wembley that the government will electrify 18,000 villages in 1000 days. He also added that there are several places in India which don’t have 24 hour power connectivity. The Indian prime minister said that by the year 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, he would ensure that there was 24 hours of electricity all over the country. However does the government have any roadmap to achieve this objective? Modi has said that FDI into India has increased by 40 per cent since last year which shows the increasing global confidence in the country.

We need to have agricultural growth and industrial growth for boosting domestic consumption and augmenting exports. The government needs to ensure that the goods manufactured in the nation is of superior quality and cheaper than those available in foreign countries. For achieving this objective an amicable work environment is needed.

Modi also pointed out that even though UN existed for the past 70 years it has not been able to define terrorism. This is because of the fear that it might lead to “profiling and linking problem with any religious faith”. Even in India we have not been able to arrive at a consensus on what constitutes terrorism. Instead of waiting for acche din people must start working hard as the government can’t do everything. The government must take steps to provide training to youth so that they become employable. Even though India has large number of workforce below 30 years of age but many of them lack skills to survive in the modern world.

I have not heard Rajnath Singh talking about increasing agriculture even though he hails from agricultural background and knows more about it. The Modi government has failed to take steps to address the issue of farmer suicides. The government must provide financial assistance to farmers affected by drought. They must also waive off the loan taken by farmers and increase the minimum support price for crops.

Availability of water, conservation, recycling, avoiding waste are the things on which our government should act instead of unveiling statues of our social reformers on foreign land. If you like those leaders, you follow their ideals and practice them here in India or do you want UK citizens to follow them?
