After Vyapam, another admission scam rocks MP, high court judges under scanner

A day after the Supreme Court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe all cases related to the Vyapam scam and over 40 deaths linked to it, more details about the involvement of Madhya Pradesh High Court judges and top ranking government officials into another admission scam here have now come to the fore.

A list of top High Court judges with alleged links to the murkier Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) recruitment scam, also called the Vyapam scam, has been handed over in a sealed envelope to the Chief Justice of India.

Whistleblowers have told the apex court that the ‘kith and kin’ of judges, IAS and IPS officers are among those who bought seats in private institutions, medical and dental colleges.

Whistleblower Anand Rai said that he and some others had submitted the names of judges linked to the admissions scam in private colleges to Chief Justice HL Duttu in a sealed envelope.

On the basis of these documents, the whistleblowers have reportedly contended before the apex court that since the “kith and kin” of judges are beneficiaries, the judiciary in Madhya Pradesh cannot be objective in the hearing of the admission scam

The whistleblowers also informed the Supreme court about the threats to their lives in their resolve to expose the ‘big fish’ in the Vyapam scam, including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Whistleblowers also alleged that the scam is not just confined to government institutions, paid seats were given out in private medical and dental colleges to relatives of ministers, judges and bureaucrats.

There have been over 40 deaths in the scandal, in which thousands of people are alleged to have paid bribes in return for government jobs or for college admissions.

The Supreme Court yesterday said that the CBI would investigate the scandal as well as the deaths linked to it.

Nearly 2,000 people have been arrested since the scandal erupted in 2012, including a former state minister, several top bureaucrats and hundreds of students.

The top court also yesterday issued notice to the MP Governor Ram Naresh Yadav while responding to a petition seeking his removal. He and his son were accused last year of accepting bribes in a First Information Report or FIR by the Special Task Force of the state police that is investigating the Vyapam scam.

Drunk driver like “dead unconscious” man behind wheels: Court

A sessions court has upheld the jail term of a man convicted of driving his car in drunken condition, saying he was like a “dead unconscious” man behind the wheels who posed “mortal danger not only to himself but also to all other persons using the road”.

Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal, while dismissing the appeal of Nikhil Shankar, a resident of Karol bagh here, against the two-day jail term awarded to him by a trial court, said, “He was a menace to the public at large” and such conduct must be deprecated.

“The quantum of alcohol content in blood of the convict was very high i.e. 17 times of permissible limit. He, in these circumstances, could be stated to be almost a dead unconscious man behind the wheels who posed a mortal danger not only to himself but also to all other persons using the road.

“He was thus a menace to the public at large. Such type of conduct of appellant/convict must be strongly deprecated and cannot be condoned under any circumstance,” the judge said.

The court refused to show leniency towards Nikhil and said that the fact that he was heavily drunk is itself aggravating circumstance which does not warrant any leniency from court.

“Keeping in view the circumstances in which the present offence was committed, the convict is not entitled to be released on probation of good conduct and thus his plea in this regard is declined,” it said, adding that the trial court had already been lenient by awarding only a two-day jail term.

The court’s decision came on the plea of Nikhil, who was found driving a car in a drunken condition with alcohol content of 524.1 mg per 100 ml blood which was more than the permissible limit of 30 mg per 100 ml blood.

In its May 11 order, the magisterial court had, besides jailing him, imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 and had impounded his driving licence for a year. Nikhil had challenged only the sentence.

In his appeal, he had argued that the trial court had passed a very harsh sentence after convicting him under section 185 (drunken driving) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Nikhil, who is working as a sales executive in a garment shop, had sought leniency from the sessions court, saying he was a first-time offender and has a two-year-old daughter to look after.

Health care services for the poor

Wealth must be created but it must be invested in social sectors like free health care and providing meaningful education. I will repeat, power in sinews, skill in the fingers, a smile on the face that always lingers. If you watch television, the youth are not able to articulate correctly. They must say “Hamare haanthon ko kutch kaam sikhado, rojgar hum swayam bana lenge”. Every body seems to say, give me a secure job. Few days back, I heard some job aspirants appearing for bank P.O. examination saying that state bank job is better as there is lesser work while work pressure is more in private banks.

The government must say, we will provide skill training to you and you will bring good days yourselves. They can’t do much work now as Lok Sabha election is not round the corner. Time has come to make them accountable. There is shortage of electricians in our country. Therefore the government must start offering training to 1000 youth. They can also seek the assistance of trainers from foreign countries but the objective is to create skilled work force.

The government wants to set up AIIMS but will doctors practice in villages or tehsils? Instead training must be imparted to youth for two years which will enable them to prescribe medicine for common ailments, carry out simple surgeries. For major illness they can refer to city doctors. You don’t need specialists for village level health centres. “Compounder saheb davai banaye dihin hamka, aab hum theek hoi gaye”.

Why should you go very far for treatment? Dr Naik who stays near Antop hill charges only Rs 40 including checking the throat, blood pressure, fever plus medicine. He will not charge any money. If you go for second visit then he will charge only if medicine is to be repeated. Maintaining cleanliness, moderate wages, strict discipline, high ranking technological achievement is necessary for achieving good governance.

Quality of a Good Dance Teacher

Craze for dance has become so big that person of every age wants to learn to dance now. Reality dance shows like Chak Doom Doom and the DID L’il Masters have evoked hysteria amongst the kids nowadays. Recently, I was in Bhopal, Jaipur, Guwahati and Chandigarh for some workshops and almost every one I met said how do we choose the correct dance teacher? Do the reality show stars really make a good dance teacher? Does the popularity in dance really mean one is an excellent dance teacher?

My advice to all those people who cannot go to a big city to learn from big and popular teachers, is that look for a good dance teacher in your own or your neighbouring city. You might just hit the jackpot by finding a true teacher.

I always keep insisting that a good dancer might not be a good teacher, so be careful in your choice of the dance teacher because the wrong decision would mean wrong techniques and an incorrect growth as a dancer. I have mentioned below some qualities of a good teacher that can help you find your guiding light:

Experience
How long has the teacher been teaching? How long has he or she been dancing? Find out what dancing certifications, if any, he or she has. While credentials are important, don’t overlook retired professional dancers. These dancers often become exceptional dance teachers, with no previous certifications.

Qualifications
Does the teacher teach different styles of dance? Some dance teachers conduct classes for several dance genres, such as ballet, tap, modern, hip-hop, jazz, Ballroom, Bollywood, Classical and folk. Make sure the teacher is actually qualified to teach the style you prefer and don’t simply fill up his or her enrolment book.

Dedication
Does the teacher seem truly dedicated to dance? If he/she was a professional dancer, you can probably assume a great deal of pride and dedication for the profession of dance. Observe the way he or she teaches and conducts a class. A dedicated dance teacher will appear to be completely in love with the idea of teaching others how to dance.

Punctuality
Is the dance teacher always running behind? Do classes continuously begin late? A good dance teacher will always strive to be an example of responsibility, as responsibility is a trait of a good dancer. If you feel as if you are always standing around waiting for the teacher, it’s probably time to look for a new one.

Respect
Do you feel yourself invisible in your dance class? Every student in a dance class should feel important and respected. Even if you are dancing on the back row, the teacher should make an effort to make eye contact and communicate with you. A respectable teacher will pay attention to each and every student and correct them individually, helping them to gradually build their technique. A good teacher will respect every one of his or her students.

Passion
Above all, is the passion for the art form. A good teacher is one who lives his or her passion. Teaching with full being, not bothering about the time, place or the environment what explain the passion of a teacher. A passionate teacher is the one who will offer their students all the knowledge he or she possess without suppressing anything.

Tips for finding a dance teacher
If you’re looking for dance teachers in your area, check the yellow pages or the local newspapers. You can even browse the internet and find out dance teachers close to your area, check out their website and other information on the internet. Many schools, colleges and clubs also offer dance classes in the evening, as an extra curricular activity and usually at very reasonable rates. Also check local health clubs and fitness centres, as many people are realizing the health benefits of dancing. The best way is to visit the places where the dance lovers meet, have seminars, lecture or party that’s the correct place to find a good teacher, when you will observe a student dancing well just get the name of their teacher and there you have found your Guru.

Priyanka wonders why nobody talks about male-centric films

Priyanka (4)Actress Priyanka Chopra, who will be seen playing a tough cop in Prakash Jha’s forthcoming project “Gangaajal 2”, says films with female protagonists should not be typecast as “women-centric”.

The 32-year-old actress was in the city along with Jha to shoot the film, whose prequel “Gangaajal” had actor Ajay Devgn essaying role of an IPS officer.

“Why do you stereotype yourself in a particular role.. Nobody talks about film with a male lead in it. No one terms them ‘men-oriented’ films,” she said, when asked about female-centric movies doing well at the box-office lately.

The “Fashion” star, who has an army background as her late father served defence forces as doctor, said she finds a difference in playing role of a police officer and an army personnel.

Gajendra Chauhan should voluntarily retire: Rishi Kapoor

Rishi-KapoorGajendra Chauhan, whose appointment as Film and Television Institure of India (FTII) chairman has faced protests from its students, should “voluntarily retire”, says veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.

Chauhan, who played ‘Yudhishthir’ in “Mahabharat”, was appointed as the FTII chief last month. This was followed by protests from students, who believe he lacks the stature and vision to head the institution.

After several film celebrities supported the voice of the students, the 62-year-old actor took to micro-blogging website Twitter to express his opinion.

“Advice. After all the protests and controversy, Gajendra Chauhan, the FTII Chairman should voluntarily retire. Will do good to the students.

“If they don’t want you, they don’t want you. By pushing for the chairmanship is getting you nowhere. Let self pride play a role and retire,” Rishi, who belongs to Indian cinema’s globally popular Kapoor clan, tweeted.

Earlier, his son, actor Ranbir Kapoor too expressed support for the students, stressing on how it is only legitimate for them to demand a chairperson, who is an “aspirational figure” that they can look up to.
