Fadnavis flays Raj over remarks on Modi

A day after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray criticised the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for ignoring his uncle and Shiv Sena founder late Bal Thackeray, the party has hit back claiming he has no right to talk about the leader.
Addressing a convention of senior citizens in Mumbai, Mr. Thackeray on Sunday criticised Mr. Modi for second time in a month. “Why did he not even mention Balasaheb’s name in his speech in Mumbai? This is despite both the parties being allies for so many years,” said Mr. Thackeray.
He went on to attack Mr. Modi for calling Mumbai ‘a maternal home of Gujaratis.’ “So what is Mumbai for Maharashtrians? He is just unnecessarily bringing up the issue of Samyukta Maharashtra movement,” he added.
The Samyukta Maharashtra movement in late 50s was responsible for inclusion of Mumbai (then known as Bombay) in Maharashtra and not in Gujarat.
Shiv Sena’s ally BJP has reacted strongly on MNS chief’s comments. “He is a person who was the reason of biggest pain Balasaheb suffered in his lifetime, by splitting the party. What right does he have to talk about Sena chief’s honour?” asked Devendra Fadnavis, President, BJP’s state unit.
He added that, Mr. Thackeray has lost his charisma to attract voters due to Mr. Modi’s wave of popularity. “He is using Mr. Modi’s name to keep his voters intact. But his tactics won’t work this time,” Mr. Fadnavis said.
Last month, the MNS chief had asked Mr. Modi to have a national outlook instead of harping on Gujarat’s success, as he is aiming to be the prime minister of the country.

Dalits in India after Independence

We entered in the 68th year of Independence but we Indians are still unable to adapt the very first Article of our constitution which says “Bharat as a Union of states” and the principles of preamble (equality, fraternity etc). Racist, harsh and discriminatory attitude towards the dressing, physical features, complexion is rampant in our society. Is this the “future” that our forefathers thought of? We are progressing superficially but nothing has changed much. Still, Dalits are discriminated in some parts of India. They are not allowed to enter in kitchen or temples. There is no social acceptance for down-trodden people. On the other side, if we see in metropolitan cities then Dalit youth wants reservations, but they do not accept merits. They are seeking every advantage from jobs to studies, but they do not want to come in main stream competition. We call this nation as an independent country but we lack in mental growth and human progress. I am terribly upset with so called ‘Dalit leaders’ and autocrats, they never bothered about their community. They just play politics on community’s name. If Mayawati, Ramvilas Paswan and Ramdas Athawale who claim themselves as Dalit leaders inspite of self growth they had concentrated on community’s prosperity the way Baba Saheb wanted then today this community would have been more liberated and prospered.

Even the most tolerant person can never achieve open minded thought because, in a cognitive sense, each new experience must be amalgamated with the previous before it can be processed. Based on what has been learned about prejudice so far, human beings have a great deal to learn about each other before prejudice can be reduced. Even in the earliest civilizations, people felt that guilt and misfortune could be shifted from one man to another, known in modern times as projection. Discrimination helps to boost the self-esteem. One guaranteed way to maintain high self-esteem is by having someone to look down on. Stereotyped characteristics are, in some cases, a displacement of personality traits which are undesirable. Guilt, fear, anger, anxiety and greed are some of the most prominent, but not the only emotions for which prejudice serves a functional significance.

The cognitive, social and humanistic perspectives rely heavily on each other to provide a full explanation of prejudice. Woman’s plight is even more pathetic, verbal abuse as well as accusing them of illegal and immoral trade exposed the mindset of our Nation. Only people who have experienced the horror and the brutalising effects of the caste system will understand what it means to be a Dalit in Indian society. A Dalit is considered to be untouchable, invisible, and unapproachable and even, in a way, unthinkable.

Dalits have been suffering, humiliated, martyr from the last two thousand years. Does the world know about this man-made tragedy? Even though untouchability was officially abolished by law in the 1950’s in India, the Dalits still experience the agony of untouchability very deeply in all walks of life: social, economic and political. For Dalit children, the future does not look much better. Fifteen million children are bonded labourers, working in slave-like conditions, and the majority of them are Dalits. Thousands of girls are forced into prostitution even before reaching the age of puberty. Devadasis, literally meaning “female servants of god,” usually belong to the Dalit community. These girls are pretty and have caught the fancy of a higher caste man. Once dedicated as a devadasi, the girl can become the playmate of such a man. Afterwards, she is cast aside and auctioned off to an urban brothel. As a devadasi, she is unable to marry forever.

Dalit women also suffer another form of abuse. They are often raped as a form of retaliation. Sexual abuse and other forms of violence against women are used by landowners to inflict political “lessons”, and crush dissent within the Dalit community. It’s really shameful for all of us that such activities are taking place in our country. After independence everybody was scared that how a country like India can remain united out of it diversity in all walks of life i.e. caste, tribe, religion etc. No religion or nation preaches intolerance or endorses the view to look down upon anyone. If we feel that looking down on someone who is not from our background is justified and flaunts our nationalistic attitude, then we must realize that it is time we review our understanding. A prejudice is a belief about a group of people based on their religion, ethnicity, race, gender, handicap or any other factors. It can be positive or negative, but as a prejudice involves passing judgement on a large group of people regardless of their individual qualities, it is considered to be unfair. Prejudice which causes unfair treatment is called discrimination, and in many cases discrimination can be illegal. Prejudices and discrimination can result in serious problems for both the people that hold them and the people that they are prejudiced against. Most of the people who discriminate against a group do so because of upbringing or societal reasons. However, some prejudices are due to a bad experience with a certain person or a traumatic life event that has caused an individual to stereotype an entire group. Many prejudices develop from fears or misunderstanding of a certain culture or race.

Conflict of interest in job and education are very unfortunate. It may start trust deficit among the Indian. Are we becoming a nation of bigoted folks? By committing hate crimes against the people of the north eastern states, we are sowing the seeds of dissension. If the police don’t apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice, we are putting our pluralistic structure of our country, of which we are so proud, in real danger.

BJP offered Rs. 20 crore to split my party, says AAP MLA Madan Lal

AAP-MLA-Madan-LalThe Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a frontal attack on the BJP on Monday and alleged that Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley and Harsh Vardhan are conspiring to destabilise the Arvind Kejriwal-led government.

Ironically, the AAP, which had refused to take action against its members citing lack of evidence, said it had no evidence to substantiate its claims on the role being played by the top leadership of the BJP.

Leading the charge was AAP MLA from Kasturba Nagar, Madan Lal. He alleged that he was approached multiple times with offers of money and position to make him break away from the AAP resulting in the fall of the government.
Addressing a press conference at the Constitution Club, Lal said he was first approached on the intervening night of December 7-8 when he received a call from an international location. The caller offered to fix a meeting with Arun Jaitley the next morning, Lal said, adding, the call was routed in such a manner that he could not call back.

“I said shut up (to the caller),” Lal said.

After the results were declared, a advocate approached me with a similar offer, Lal added.

“Then ten days back two people came to me. One of them said he was from Gujarat. He said that he will help me to form a new party and that I can become the chief minister and others (who join the rebellion) can become cabinet minister,” Lal said.

“He said I will get Rs 20 crore and others will get Rs 10 crore. I had informed the party about it other party leaders told me,” he said. Lal said he was revealing the truth now as his name is doing the rounds in the media that he is in talks with AAP rebel Vinod Kumar Binny to pull down the government.

Binny along with two other MLAs Rambeer Singh and Shoaib Iqbal had yesterday held a press conference and said that they will withdraw their support to the government if Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal did not fulfil its promises in 48 hours.

When probed by a reporter on whether he had any proof to substantiate the serious allegations made by him against BJP leaders, Lal replied in the negative.

“Proof is needed to file a case in court but I don’t want to do it, I only wanted to expose the truth,” he said.

The MLA added that he has no interest in joining any political party and stressed that there is no leader like Arvind Kejriwal in the country.

Senior AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh were also present at the press conference.

Singh said the Arun Jaitley, Harsh Vardhan and some other leaders are working to ensure the downfall of AAP government.

“Arun Jaitely with help of his friends in the media will try to defame the government, he is part of the conspiracy, Singh said.

He announced that AAP will launch a campaign to expose both the BJP and the Congress.

“The AAP government has decided that we will expose them. We will launch a Pol Khol campaign against them from Tuesday,” he said.

Just eight ageing helicopters for VVIPs, Air Force warns government

Air-Force-warns-governmentThe government has just eight choppers to fly VVIPs like the President and the Prime Minister and all are over 30 years old.

The Indian Air Force has sounded alarm bells on the state and number of VVIP helicopters after the government cancelled the 3,600-crore AgustaWestland helicopter deal last month. The eight Mi-8 helicopters for VVIP use will outlive their utility by the end of this year, say sources.

Air Force has reportedly asked the Defence Ministry and the Prime Minister’s office to decide quickly on buying more choppers from Russia that are mostly for rescue and combat missions but can be issued to transport VVIPs.

India had signed a deal for 12 VVIP choppers in 2010, but scrapped it in January following allegations that middlemen based in Europe bribed top Indian officials, including former Air chief SP Tyagi, to push the deal.

Three AgustaWestland helicopters delivered to the air force last year have been mothballed and stored away since the cancellation of the contract does not allow any warranty or product support from the company.

India has already paid Rs. 1,150 crore to AgustaWestland but has recovered about Rs. 250 crore from the bank guarantees that were furnished by the company at the time of signing the contract. The rest of the money is stuck in litigation after the company secured a stay from an Italian court.

Even then it could at best be an ad hoc arrangement since Mi17s do not meet the stringent specifications that exist for VVIP helicopters under which Agusta choppers were bought.

AIADMK and CPI-M in alliance, says Jayalalithaa

Barely months away from the upcoming lok have Sabha polls, AIADMK and CPI-M had announced an alliance for the general elections on Monday.

Speaking on the issue of the prime ministerial candidate, Jayalalithaa said that the discussion has no relevance for now and it will be taken up after the results.

The announcement was made after Tamil Nadu CM met the General Secretary of the CPI, AB Bardhan, at her residence.

The alliance came even as DMK snapped ties with Congress and has the support of the Left Parties from the last four years. AIADMK is likely to benefit from the alliance in several constituencies.

Cartoonist Aseem set to challenge Sriprakash Jaiswal on AAP ticket

AseemRiding high on its outstanding performance in Delhi elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is likely to field cartoonist-turned-activist Aseem Trivedi from Kanpur Lok Sabha constituency against Congress’ Sriprakash Jaiswal and Samajwadi Party’s candidate Raju Srivastava.

“Yes, talks are on with the AAP leaders pertaining to Lok Sabha ticket from Kanpur,” said Aseem Trivedi.

“I am ready to contest against Sriprakash Jaiswal if AAP offers me ticket. Let’s see,” Aseem Trivedi added.

Noteworthy, Sriprakash Jaiswal has been elected three times as an MP from Kanpur’s Parliamentary constituency. Currently, he holds the coal portfolio.

Aseem Trivedi, a Kanpur-based cartoonist-turned-activist, hogged the limelight after he was arrested by the Mumbai Police for allegedly mocking the Indian Constitution by means of his political cartoons during an Anna Hazare rally. There was widespread outrage after his arrest as the supporters alleged that his arrest episode is politically motivated and he is being punished for backing Hazare’s anti-corruption campaign.

Also, Aseem Trivedi was one of the contestants of the reality TV programme Bigg Boss 6 in 2012.
AAP on Thursday had released its first list of probable candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Hoping for a cash reward, 3 students set out to nab Dawood Ibrahim

Three school students embarked on a “mission” to get-rich-quick by hunting down Dawood Ibrahim and handing over the underworld don to authorities. The sheepish students are now back home after they ran out of money.

The class nine students of St. Michael High School in this Bihar capital went missing last week and only returned home after their mission to catch Dawood Ibrahim failed, said police on Monday.

Patna police is stunned over their motive and mission. Police have now appealed to parents to take greater care of their children.

“Please take care of your wards and keep a watch on their activities, so that they don’t take the wrong path,” Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said.

India’s top intelligence agencies are trying hard for years to catch the fugitive Dawood Ibrahim. And till date they have failed to make a breakthrough.

But the three students, either inspired by films or TV serials, decided to make plenty of money in a short span of time by catching Dawood Ibrahim.

“Three of them decided to go on their mission in school itself. They felt that by catching Dawood Ibrahim and handing him over to the Indian government, they would get crores of rupees as reward which they can use to enjoy life later,” he said.

Manu Maharaj said that police got to know of their motive when they began the search to locate the three missing boys.

“Police managed to trace one of them Bipin Kumar, who said that they were not interested in studies and chalked out a plan to catch Dawood Ibrahim to make millions,” he said.

Another police official, said that three boys were confident of nabbing Dawood Ibrahim.
“They decided to approach (Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United legislator) Anant Singh for financial help to catch Dawood. They tried to meet Singh but failed.”

According to police officials, the students decided to go ahead with plan when they were on way to school.

“First they visited a mall before leaving Patna and reached Mokama and then went to Kolkata. Soon after reaching Kolkata, they realized that mission is impossible. They soon decided to return home as they had few hundreds left with them,” police officials said.

Manoj Jha, a police official, said two separate cases had been lodged.

Manu Maharaj said parents must teach children to concentrate on their studies. A teacher of their school said on condition of anonymity that three three boys were least bothered about their studies.

AAP seeks probe against Sheila Dikshit in unauthorised colony scam

The Delhi government on Monday wrote a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee asking for a probe against former chief minister Sheila Dikshit for issuing fake provisional certificates to unauthorised colonies.
On the report submitted by the Lokayukta on the issue, the President had asked for the chief minister’s recommendation.
This is the first enquiry that will be conducted by the AAP government against Sheila Dikshit.
In 2008, the Congress government gave provisional certificate to unauthorized colonies. In January 2010, the BJP had filed a complaint.
In 2013, the Lokayukta gave its judgment and indicted the Sheila government and wrote to the President. Their main contention was that it was the violation of code of conduct and integrity.

Bollywood bitten by sequel bug

There was a time when film makers used to start working on their next project after the success of their current movie. The movie might have become a blockbuster but they would still come out with fresh ideas and work on a completely different script. With the passage of time, film making has undergone a drastic change. Today if a movie becomes successful at the box-office then film makers start planning about making its sequels. The trend of sequel had begun from Hollywood where the sequels of successful films like Terminator, Evil Dead, Lethal Weapon, Transporter, Rush Hour, American Pie, Die Hard etc have been made. Bollywood too has been gripped under the sequel fever. Thus we have already seen the sequel of films like Krissh, Dhoom, Hera Pheri, Dedh Ishqiya, Vaastav, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, Dabanng, Masti, Jism, Murder, Jannat etc. This year one can look forward to sequels like Welcome back, No Entry Main Entry, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Bhootnath 2, Ragini MMS 2 etc.

Nowadays film makers announce the sequel of the film even before its release. If they are not making the sequel then media starts questioning them about it. Many times directors don’t get the right script for continuing the series hence they have to wait for a long time to make the sequel of the film.

Nowadays directors feel that if the original film has worked then its sequel too will rake in moolah at the box office. But a question which arises here is whether it is necessary to make the sequel of every successful film? Every sequel has not been as successful like the original film. For instance, Ishqiya was a hit but its sequel Dedh Ishqiya tanked at the box office. Vaastav’s sequel Hathyar lacked the steam to make it memorable. Once Upon a Time in Mumbai was a hit but its sequel was a complete washout at the box office.

Even though Murder and Murder 2 were loved by viewers Murder 3 was huge disappointment and failed to live up to the expectations of the audience. Ramgopal Varma’s Satya 2 failed to set cash registers ringing. Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster returns failed to repeat the magic of Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster. Bheja Fry received critical acclaim but its sequel Bheja Fry 2 found no takers. Hyderabad Blues 2 was a major let down at the box-office. Makers of Dhamaal were unable to do justice to its sequel Double Dhamaal which had some irksome comedy scenes.

Many times, film makers dole out substandard scripts while making sequels. Today the film industry has become commercialised as it more concerned about making money instead of concentrating on good scripts. Most of the times, directors blindly copy the script and scenes of Hollywood movies. Sometimes there is no connection between the sequel and the original movie. Thus film makers should only plan about making the sequel of the film if they possess good script. They should not blindly jump into sequel bandwagon merely to cash in on the success of the original film. If directors don’t have good script for making the sequel they should drop the idea and instead start working on a new project.
