What makes you spend time and interact with unknown people in virtual world at the cost of spending time with known people in real world?

I don’t know and it is not very important for me.

How do you view the role of social media in changing political course of the country?

The role of social media has become increasingly important due to the changing social demographics. With families becoming nuclear and life pressures increasing lot of people prefer to spend time in the virtual world and connect with each other. Maybe in the next 10 years social media will occupy a prominent space in politics.

Even though over 2 per cent population of India is on twitter and over 7 per cent is on Facebook, only a handful of people dominates political discourse on social media, most seems uninterested?

Presently it is new and most are immature but it will evolve with time. In the next 10 years, people will gain maturity. They will begin respecting the social media and form their own opinions.

Can we afford to have an unrestricted social media without any govt control, intervention and censorship?

We should have no government control – it should be self-regulated. In the event of trolls or issues we should have a resource to complain but it should not be regulated. Minimum regulation should be there but India does not understand the meaning of minimum or adequate – either it is no or full.

How does it affect you emotionally? Do you get attached to the people online, without even meeting them? Do they become real life friends/foes ?

At times yes – if you have interacted with people for a considerable time then they become your virtual friends and like real life you tend to be concerned about them and their issues do affect you.

Does right-wing control social media hurt the ethos of the country?

Not it doesn’t affect.

Will online support for Narendra Modi or Rahul Gandhi convert into votes?

Not presently but yes in future social media could play a major role in influencing people’s mindset. Presently Indians still want person to person contact.

What is politically more relevant –Twitter or facebook ?

Twitter

Do you think Social media will ever dominate or overpower main stream media?

Not in the near future maybe 20 years down the line.

What is your message to our readers, those who are on social network?

People should interact but with controls. They should maintain self-regulation.

How social network has benefitted you in your growth in all aspirations?

It has been a boon to me and other thinkers and writers as we can voice our opinions on any burning issue and do not have to really wait for our views to appear in newspapers. Social networking is not controlled by any individual so I value the freedom it offers. My views reach out to people in the world in nano seconds enabling a reaction too at the same speed. Social networking sites make the saying come true; ‘strike when the coal is hot.’ I always do that so the effect multiplies in my life as my experience says.

Do you think social media will ever dominate or overpower main stream media?

Yes. It is seen that new technology takes over the world. It can be likened to the fact that old generation makes way for the new. Now in smart phone era do you remember pagers! Gradually it has to happen.

Do you agree that people have lost contact with the real world being on social network?

There is a fine line between the real and the virtual world. Communicating enables you to reach out and network with known and unknown people. Social network in fact brings us closer to the real world.

Is social network is an addition to the 21st century society?

Definitely so and believe me social networking will be a major player in the next few years and reckoned as information generating machine.

Describe the disadvantage of social network.

Irresponsible and cunning people can use social network to malign a person’s image especially criminal and anti-social element, disperse rumours and harm people’s personal life by spreading malicious messages. Compared to advantages, disadvantages are very narrow.

What are the advantages of social network?

Dispersing information, effective means of communication, keeping abreast with national and international happenings, voicing opinions can put social networking in favourable position and multiply your creativity without obstacle of any ideological ism.

What is your message to our readers, those who are on social network?

Use social networking as a tool of communication, to bridge gaps between our world and outside world, make it work in your favour, use it positively to reach out to family and friends and respect each other’s privacy. Latest communication and technology with human face is a blessing for budding stars. USE IT OR LOSE IT. CHOICE IS YOURS.

‘Social media can make the world a better place’

abhay-tiwariAbhay Tiwari is the founder of Sambal NGO. He is also an author, educator, motivational speaker, a business consultant and entrepreneur. He spoke about the power of social media and how it can change people’s lives with our Group Editor Vaidehi Sachin.

What is your own definition of Social Media?

For me Social media is a platform to share content, opinions, insights, experiences. For individuals it is a way to connect and share content with friends, politicians, journalist and like-minded people. For businesses it’s a way to look into what people are saying about their brand, product and services. For Politicians it is a platform to connect with their constituents.

Is social media a major threat? Is it boon or bane?

Social Media is a power of people and just like any other power, even this platform comes with its share of threat issues. Today we talk about social media threat, spread of misinformation which can be done both unintentionally and intentionally. Yes it is a threat if organizations, be it political, corporate, or governmental, spread fake information through a fake profile, making it appear as though it came from a grassroot movement or an individual, in an attempt to gain legitimacy for themselves or smear their opponents. We need to identify it as a serious lapse in the ethical conduct on the Internet, and as a potential threat to the open and constructive Social Media. According to me it is boon if we use it with some responsibility.

Do you think social media is fueling communal passions?

No, it is being fueled by some political parties to gain caste based vote, although social media should not be used irresponsibly, it should not become a platform for those trying to foment trouble. There is always a need for an oversight mechanism to control the spread of misinformation not only on social media but every media. Blaming social media for fueling communal passions is a way for government to come out from their law and order responsibilities.

Do you think social media propaganda can really benefit politician or political party to get voters to polling booth?

Yes it can benefit politician or political party. This is because, at its most basic, politics is about people. It’s about communicating with them and delivering a message. What better way to do this than through a medium such as Facebook, Twitter or YouTube? Traditionally, politicians have relied on letterboxing pamphlets, mail-outs and public advertisements, and while these can be effective, they’re also costly, time-consuming and often require significant manpower. Social media removes these barriers and provides an instant method of connecting with the electorate.

Sharing information about oneself has become so easier with the help of the social sites?

Yes, Social media has brought about a hyper connectivity that was unimaginable just 20 years ago. The voiceless suddenly have a voice that can be heard throughout the world. We can stay in close contact with our friends even though they are on the other side of the world. If we find something interesting, we can share it with our friends and start a conversation around it within minutes.

Teenagers are becoming more socially awkward and growing up having no sense of manners in a public forum?

The impact is both negative and positive. There are some good things that come out of social media for our teens, but it is true that Teenagers are becoming more socially awkward and growing up having no sense of manners in a public forum. Social media has allowed them to take their life online and instead of saying goodbye to friends at school and waiting to see them the next day, they just go home and jump on their favorite social media network and interact with them for the rest of the day.

Teens today who are highly engaged in social media are having an identity crisis. Not all of them are, but many teens are someone else on social media than they are when they are with their family. Social media has made it easy for teens to not be consist and have a “double life.” Every day I see students who tweet and post things on Facebook that totally contradict what their parents, or others that know them personally, think of them. Social media has and is changing the way they live.

The problems this new online society creates are not going away and will continue to grow. Parents must get off the sidelines and get involved! They have the responsibility to protect their children and be aware of what is going on in the online world. Investigate and help your child adjust privacy settings.

How social network has benefited you in your growth in all aspirations?

Using social media, I am able to interact with people around the globe. Social Media, also allowed me to express my thoughts and ideas through writing blogs and notes. It gave me a platform to speak on various burning issues and deliver the fact finding at root level. At the time of Anna’s movement against corruption, people started talking against Democracy, against Parliament and against our Judicial system, I used social media like youtube, twitter and facebook to educate people about the power of Indian Democracy, dignity of Parliament and value of our Judicial system. I wrote few article explaining advantages and disadvantages of Lokpal bill, through social media I was able to deliver my message to aggressive Indian youth.

Do you think social media will ever dominate or overpower main stream media?

No, Social media cannot dominate or overpower main stream media. Social networking reshaped worldwide communication significantly increased the speed of news spread, and connected the world stronger than ever. Although social networking has been such a revolutionary invention for the society, and many researchers have turned towards social media to explore trending topics, mainstream media still remains as the origin of the majority of the news discussed in social networking sites.

Do you agree that people have lost contact with the real world after being on social network?

In my opinion social networking sites on one hand provides a way to connect to our dear ones on the other hand it becomes danger for our culture and society. We spend too much time on social media it is the technology, social media has no fault in itself, we should have control on ourself whether we use it with wrong intention or good. Social networking sites are made to help you connect with others any time. But it depends on how you utilize it. We as a society have become so engulfed in social media that we are failing to realize the level of dependency we now have for it. We are getting addicted, and just like an addict we have built up a tolerance that requires more of the drug to keep us satisfied. Even worse, just like an addict we cannot function normally without being on the drug.

Social network is an addition to the 21st Century Society?

If someone spending too much time using Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media — so much so that it interferes with other aspects of daily life, surely it will become an addition. There’s no official medical recognition of social networking addiction as a disease or disorder. Still, the cluster of behaviours associated with heavy or excessive use of social media has become the subject of much discussion and research. Addiction usually refers to compulsive behaviour that leads to negative effects. In most addictions, people feel compelled to do certain activities so often that they become a harmful habit, which then interferes with other important activities such as work or school. In that context, a social networking addict could be considered someone with a compulsion to use social media to excess–constantly checking Facebook status updates or “stalking” people’s profiles on Facebook, for example, for hours on end.

Describe the disadvantages of social network.

One of the major disadvantages of using social networking websites are the students get addicted to it, they used to spend hours in those websites which can obviously degrade the student’s academic performance. Using social networking sites till mid night or even more which can obviously lead to health related problems. Spending too much time on Facebook, twitter or other social networking sites keep us away from family members. Some people may provide detailed information like phone numbers, address which is very dangerous because they can be easily tracked down by strangers.

What are the advantages of social network?

Social networking provides a great way for you to stay in touch with people who may have moved away. Normally, people try to stay in touch with friends via phone calls and the occasional letter or e-mail, but busy lives make it difficult to maintain contact. However, social networking is such a regularly used medium that it’s easy to stay in touch with people even when they move away.

You can use social networking to get feedback on ideas immediately, or to ask questions and get answers quickly. If you’re developing a product or even just an idea, you can bounce it off your friends and social networking contacts and find out what they think about it. You can also ask questions and receive answers in near-real-time, if your contacts know the answer or if you’re a student in touch with teachers.

What is your message to our readers, those who are on social network?

Social media has the power to make the world a better place, and social media success will come when you use it with responsibility. Maximize the use of social media for awareness and social growth. While at work or with family, limit the time you spend attending to your social media sites, don’t get addicted to it. Use good judgment about content and respect cyber laws. Do not share personal or confidential information. Do not use language that is threatening, defamatory, illegal, obscene, infringing, harassing, abusive, hateful or embarrassing to any person or entity.

What is your own definition of social media?

Social media is a platform to reach out to millions worldwide even from safe confines of your home or office. It curtails travel, enables one to one connectivity and is an excellent form of communication tool. The most important feature is its bilateral and not unilateral form of communication without anyone’s monopoly. It’s an absolute democracy.

Is social media a ‘major threat? Is it boon or bane?

Every invention has its good and bad points. It’s up to us how we utilise it. If used in positive way it will surely help to build our profile, share news, and garner information as to what is happening in the remotest corner of the world. So it’s a boon for people like us. It’s bane for some news channels and paid media because social media exposes their hypocrisy and cerebral corruption.

Do you think social media is fuelling communal passions?

No, I do not think social media is responsible for spreading communal passions. Communal passion and violence has an ancient history which cannot be matched with comparatively infant social media! Communal passion is basic instinct of radical human being. It has nothing to do with social media.

Do you think Social media propaganda can really benefit politicians or political parties to get voters to polling booth?

Certainly any new technology of communication would be beneficial for genius propagandist and its propaganda machinery. In history we have seen Goebbels and Lenin for example who used the then prevalent communication tools for their propaganda.

Has sharing information about oneself become easier with the help of the social sites?

Yes, sharing information has surely become easy and convenient as it enables us to reach out to millions worldwide in matter of seconds.

Teenagers are becoming more socially awkward and growing up having no sense of manners in a public forum?

Social media has enabled the teenagers to raise their voice providing them an effective platform where their voice won’t be snuffed out. They can speak their minds, give opinions, keep themselves abreast with latest happenings and incidences; maybe political or apolitical and motivate change in right direction. Social awkwardness and lack of social manners is a disease of suppressed hypocrites’ society. Social media only expresses the symptoms and is not responsible for its origin.

Personal lives are getting affected as people have started sharing their personal things on social sites?

Sharing personal data is an individual’s wish. People who want to be discreet have the option to be so. Social networking sites are a better platform for those who want to be vocal, heard and seen, share photographs and personal information. It’s a good way of communicating with your friends and families and celebrate occasions. One can see increasing number of people who use social sites to promote their talents and businesses. In fact it’s a kind of psychological remedy in this lonely world.

How social network has benefitted you in your growth in all aspirations?

It has been a boon to me and other thinkers and writers as we can voice our opinions on any burning issue and do not have to really wait for our views to appear in newspapers. Why is Indian culture losing its richness?

Indians are known to follow the old culture and respect elders. Everyday, we pray to the almighty and also follow various rituals. On the other hand, people have adopted the modern lifestyle and have stopped following Indian culture. We live in the era of globalisation which has proved to be a boon for people as they can purchase quality goods at competitive prices. On the other, globalisation has come with its own share of problems as it has created problems like inequitable distribution of wealth thereby creating a huge gap between the rich and the poor.

Indian culture is regarded as one of the oldest cultures of the world and is followed by the entire world. It teaches an individual about how to lead a life. For example, Lord Rama had shown the path to people about how to life a perfect life. We are Indians but we are forgetting our language, culture and are always aping the west. Are we not putting our own self image, our self respect, our mother India’s pride at stake by doing so?

Why we have started eating burgar instead of chapati? Why we drink tea and coffee instead of milk? Youth are saying hi and hello instead of touching feet of their elders. Instead of having food directly we are using spoon and forks. Why are we not following our culture? If people are blaming films for the degradation of Indian culture then it is not true. It all depends upon what you see, hear and think. Youth should accept the good things life has to offer and don’t forget about their nation’s culture.
Indians are losing their cultural roots, and drifting towards Western culture and language. Today people blindly emulate everything which is shown on television. Adopting modern life style is good but it comes with its own share of drawbacks. People need to realise that every religion says the same thing love all and help the needy. Our culture is decaying as we do accept the western culture very instantly. We learn good manners from our ancestors and Indian culture is the best. Let’s not forget our own culture and also spread it across the world.

No matter we respect other country’s culture but at the same time we should not let our culture down. A country is known by its culture, in western countries our diverse culture is praised and appreciated so why should we forget it ? We should be proud that we live in such a country with rich culture and traditions, so why not to stick with it? Steps must be taken to strengthen India’s rich and diverse, multi-cultural, multi-linguistic cultural heritage so that it remains a vibrant, dynamic and living part of community life.

Shinde kept “Ambedkar” on Hold

AmbedkarUnion Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde who was supposed to inaugurate Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue at Damu Nagar, Kandivali (E) at 3 pm kept people and media persons waiting by reaching the venue two hours twenty minutes late at 5.20 pm. Ambedkar followers had to face huge hardships as they had to wait for a long time for Shinde to arrive at the venue. Finally, Shinde arrived and unveiled the statue amid lot of chaos. Journalists who visited the place for covering the event too had to face a torrid time as they were waiting for Shinde’s arrival at the venue.

A resident from Kandivali on the condition of anonymity said, “All of us were eagerly waiting for function which was scheduled to begin at 3 pm. Since Shinde turned up late for the function hence all of us became anxious as we had to wait for more than two hours. It is the responsibility of every politician to be punctual and reach the venue at scheduled time. Since politicians’ time is precious they too should value our time.”

Chief Minister of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan’s photo missing from the posters erected for the inauguration event.

Posters of Ambedkar statue inauguration event were installed at various places in Kandivali. However, CM Prithviraj Chavan’s photo was missing from the poster which contained photos of several leaders of the Congress party. The posters had the photos of UPA chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Rahul Gandhi, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam and Eknath Gaikwad, Mumbai Congress President Janardan Chandurkar, local MLA’s Thakur Ramesh Singh, Aslam Shaikh, Chandrakant Handore, NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar, NCP minister Narayan Rane but Chavan’s photo was missing. A question which arises here is why did the party ignore CM Chavan?

Minimal crowd and lack of amenities at the venue

Sushil Kumar Shinde’s rallies are known to attract huge crowds. However, lesser crowds were visible in the Ambedkar statue inauguration event. Around 2000 people had attended the event including the Congress party workers. The organizers had failed to make adequate arrangements which would have enabled electronic media to cover the function properly. They only offered stage to the media after some journalists raised this issue with them.

Organizer of the function gave a blink and miss appearance

Even though the event was organized under the leadership of Member of Parliament Sanjay Nirupam but he failed to check about the arrangements been made before the commencement of the function. Finally, Nirupam arrived with Sushil Kumar Shinde and both shared the stage.

A political stunt to attract Dalit and OBC voters

The event has been organised with an intention to woo Dalit and OBC voters. Since Narendra Modi belongs to the OBC community and the RPI has joined hands with Shiv Sena hence Congress has unveiled Ambedkar’s statue to lure voters belonging to these communities.

NCP rigid on 22 seats

NCP-rigid-on-22-seatsThe Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is adamant on its stand to contest 22 seats out of 48 parliamentary seats in Maharashtra. On the other hand, the Congress has been favouring 29:19 seat sharing formula in the Lok Sabha election as NCP had performed badly in the last election especially in western Maharashtra. However, the NCP is unwilling it accept this decision and has already announced to contest 22 seats in the state. The NCP is ready to swap few seats with its ally. Both the parties have been involved in a tug of war with each one of them trying to outdo the other. Often NCP has criticised Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan for making slow-paced decision which resulted into policy paralysis in the state. The party will soon finalise the seat sharing agreement with Congress. It aims to win 12 to 15 seats by contesting 22 seats in the Lok Sabha election.

NCP spokeperson Nawab Malik said the Congress performance has weakened after the assembly election. He said, “The Congress party has been routed out of the power in four states in the recently concluded assembly election. The seat sharing decision will be taken by our party president Sharad Pawar. We will fight election in 22 seats in the state. There is a possibility that Aam Aadmi Party will give a tough fight to Congress in the state.”

Earlier, Maharashtra Congress chief Manikrao Thakre had said that that seat-sharing 2009 formula was based on the 2004 poll results. He also added that since Congress has improved its performance in the 2009 election the party deserved three more seats.

NCP, which is number two after the Congress party in the local self government and top in the civic bodies, is quite keen to improve its tally from eight which it won in 2009 elections. NCP state president Bhaskar Jadhav said all efforts will be made to increase party’s tally.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has taken a decision to field new faces including youths, professionals, women in addition to ministers in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections to take on AAP and also the saffron BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.

Further, NCP chief and union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar exhorted party members to learn and effectively use social media including face book, tweeter, whatsapp in a serious bid to reach out a large number of voters especially youths.

He indicated that NCP would approach voters purely on development plank. Pawar reiterated that he won’t contest ensuing Lok Sabha elections but enter into the Rajya Sabha.

Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel said that the party chief Sharad Pawar will not contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections due in the second quarter of this year.

AAP on street for membership drive

aap-in-mumbaiEver since Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) formed government in Delhi the common man, businessman, NGOs and even cobblers too are keen to join the party. AAP party activists are appealing to the people to join the party and have started registering new members by erecting stalls outside railway stations and many other public places. Many persons registered their names at Bandra railway station where new member registrations were held. Even the online registration too is picking at a faster pace. AAP has claimed that the enrolment of new members in the party has increased tenfold. Donations are pouring in and volunteers are lining up to join the party.

Today people are already fed up with rising corruption and inflation which is surging day by day and they are desperately seeking for a change in governance. People are upset with the ruling party as they have been running the government in an old-fashioned manner where decisions are taken by few leaders through closed-door meetings.

Preeti Sharma Menon, Secretary of Aam Aadmi Party, Maharashtra said, “Everyone is joining our party irrespective of their financial background. Recently the shoe the cobbler’s association had joined our party. We have erected stall and are inviting people to join AAP.”

Shirish Ashiyani, a student of Thodamal Engineering College, Bandra said, “I am really impressed with the mode of functioning adopted by the Aam Aadmi party. Hence I am joining them with an aim to eliminate corruption from the society.”

The manner in which things are changing only goes to show that people wouldn’t take bad governance any longer. Arvind Kejriwal’s popularity too has risen after his party formed government at Delhi. People appreciated the decision taken by him to lower electricity tariffs and provide drinking water. This now poses an immediate challenge to mainstream parties in the upcoming Lok sabha elections. Congress and BJP are already watching the governance model followed by AAP and they too are trying to emulate it. The UPA government had hurriedly passed the Lokpal bill in an attempt to project that it is serious about fighting corruption prevalent in the country.

Taranum Qureshi, a student of Rizvi College, Bandra said, “AAP is doing a good job hence I want to become its member so that I can work for the welfare of the common man.”

Satyawan Mandawkar a student from St Andrew College, Bandra said, “It’s good to see that AAP is inviting the common man to join the party. I believe that the common man should join this party as it works for their welfare.”

Sunil Yadav, a shopkeeper from Bandra said, “Many parties have been functioning in Mumbai for so many years however they failed to provide good governance. I am joining AAP as I expect that it will transform the society.”

Many prominent faces like ex-Infosys board member V Balakrishnan, Remo Fernandes, Samir Nair and Pawan Munjal have joined the AAP. Party worker, Dilip, said, “We got Rs 50 lakh per day after December 8.”
Most of the new faces have quit their jobs to join the party. Former Royal Bank of Scotland executive Meera Sanyal has also joined the AAP and has offered to contest from the Mumbai South Constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha Polls.

Sukhdev Patel, Convener of AAP asserted, “Our membership has increased manifold.”

Party worker, Kiran Shaw said, “Professionals are getting more and more interested in pursuing political career and AAP has obviously offered them a very interesting platform for doing that.”

Congress on ‘AAP ke kadam par’

NirupamThe rise of AAP is giving sleepless nights to Congress party as it is keen to follow its footsteps for remaining in power. Close on the heels of 50 per cent tariff cut by AAP in Delhi AICC Secretary and Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam and MPCC president Manikrao Thackeray has demanded a tariff reduction of power consumption of less than 500 units per month in Mumbai. Nirupam has already sent a letter in this regard to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. The Congress which had received a severe jolt in the recently concluded assembly election wants to undo the damage by announcing people friendly policies. The party is closely watching the steps taken by AAP party in Delhi and trying to emulate it.

Talking to AV, Sanjay Nirupam said, “Middle class persons should be entitled to receive electricity at affordable price. I not bothered about the commercial class.

Nirupam said that an inquiry should be set up to investigate the pricing mechanism that is adopted by the companies which distribute power in the city.

Sanjay Nirupam threatened to agitate if the government fails to implement the welfare schemes. He said, “People residing in slums should receive some relief from the recurring electricity price hikes. If the government fails to implement this policy then we will protest.”

He pointed out that whenever the power was reduce in the past years, only the power companies benefited from the subsidy announced. Adding that benefit of the subsidy should only be passed on directly to the consumers.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said that it has already put forward this proposal before the cabinet. NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said, “One and half month ago we had formed a committe under the leadership of Narayan Rane for overseeing the reduction in electricity tariffs. The Congress and AAP have only got into action now.”

Opposition parties are alleging that the Congress is blindly following AAP party and indulging in publicity stunt to woo voters. They also questioned why the Congress remained mum on this issue for so many years? Why the party didn’t demand for a reduction in electricity charges when they were in power?
Neelam Gorhe, Shiv Sena spokesperson said, “Why is the Congress worried about these issues now and what were they doing for the past five years. Since the general election is just round the corner hence Congress is indulging in such acts to lure voters. The party is also worried that if they don’t improve governance then they might have to face defeat in the election.”

BJP state president Devendra Fadnavis said, “Why did the Congress overlook this issue earlier why are they worried about it now? It’s a cheap tactics of the party to seek publicity.”

Maharasthra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said, “We will look into the power tariff issue. The decision has nothing to do with AAP’s announcement to lower electricity charges in Delhi.”

Speaking out of jealously

Speaking-out-of-jealouslyShiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray’s pungi wala remarks made against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has not gone down well with Mayank Gandhi president AAP party Maharashtra unit. Mayank said Uddhav has become insecure after observing the growth of AAP in Delhi. He also added that Uddhav is now worried that AAP might play spoilsport in the next year’s Lok Sabha election.

Mayank Gandhi said, “Sena is aware that AAP will bring some kind of revolution hence they are scared of the party. They are only making irresponsible statements against our party. We are connected with the people hence they will vote for us. People are already fed up of rising corruption cases in the country hence they want clean governance which can be provided by our party.”

Earlier Uddhav Thackeray had called Arvind Kejriwal as pungiwala and also compared him with RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav who too was popular among people but is now facing charges for the fodder scam. He had added that it’s early days for Kejriwal and he is yet to prove himself. Uddhav stated that Kejriwal too will meet the same fate like Lalu who was once considered as messiah for people. He criticised Kejriwal for refusing security and travelling in metro trains which will only create more inconvenice for the common man.

“Once upon a time, Lalu Prasad Yadav showed the same zeal which Kejriwal is showing today. He had also created an aura by playing the pungi. The same Lalu could not do anything when he had power in Bihar and is now jailed on corruption charges,” Uddhav said.

In an editorial in his party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ Uddav stated, “It has to be accepted that AAP performed a miracle in Delhi. The common people in Delhi and government employees voted for AAP,” he said. “Our democracy is wonderful. It is not certain behind which ‘pungi wala’ it will run. (Pungi, also called the been, or bin is a wind instrument played by snake charmers in India).

Now, it is Kejriwal who is playing the pungi and the people of Delhi are swaying (to the tune),” he said. “One’s competence is not proved by routinely branding others as agents and corrupt. Those who govern must behave like rulers and rule,” the Sena leader said.

Uddhav wanted that BJP should have formed minority government in Delhi. He also was confident that the party could have fulfilled all the promises made by it just like AAP. “BJP got 32 seats. They could have formed a minority government. We feel that it would have been nice had they done so,” Uddhav said.

“If AAP government is able to provide free water and power at concessional rate, it would be said that the same was possible for the BJP government too,” he said,

There was a huge crowd at Ramlila Maidan to witness Kejriwal ministry’s swearing-in, Uddhav said, adding, “There are certain techniques to gather crowds. If these techniques are used carefully, the crowds gather.”
