Protocols should have no place in a democracy!

Ministers on board flight can land but ordinary citizens in need of emergency transit cannot takeoff in the name of ‘protocols’ whenever VVIP’s are traveling which is undemocratic and a bane on our electoral system where people elect governments. A young doctor pleaded with folded hands to a minister to let her flight takeoff from Imphal airport as she wanted to attend her niece’s funeral but her pleas fell on deaf years as the airport was marooned for hours because the President was to land. Ambulances with critical patients are stopped on roads whenever VVIP’s travel and this is a mockery of our democracy.
Junk protocols is the demand of the citizens of this country to our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi who himself had a humble beginning and is a common man’s PM. Let’s emulate some of the European countries where Prime Ministers too live like ordinary citizens and often are seen at queues to do their own work. We don’t expect VVIP’s to stand in queues but at least the citizens should not be troubled by their movements. PM Modi, I am sure would look into it and VVIP protocols would end in his tenure!
