Former Union minister V Narayanasamy received a letter at his residence in Puducherry on Monday morning which said All India Congress Committee vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be blown into pieces.
Rahul is scheduled to visit Puducherry’s enclave Karaikal on Tuesday to address a public rally ahead of the May 16 assembly election in Puducherry.
The threat letter, says the Congress, are written in Tamil. According to the Congress, the letter says that party is responsible for the closure of industries and Rahul would be killed.
Rahul Gandhi, along with other members of his family are protected by the elite Special Protection Group, the highest level of security in the country. Only Prime Ministers and former PM and their families are protected by the SPG, apart from the Gandhi family.
In 1991, Rahul’s father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide squad belonging to the LTTE during an election rally in Tamil Nadu.
Rahul’s grandmother and another former Prime Minister in the Gandhi family, Indira Gandhi, was also assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards in 1984.
