Ryan Coogler AVRyan Coogler, the critically-acclaimed director of films such as “Creed” and “Fruitvale Salvation”, said he is open to the idea of making a “Black Panther” spinoff focussing on the women characters of the film.

During a nearly two-hour-long masterclass at the Cannes Film Festival, Coogler was asked if he would ever make such a film.

“Oh man. That would be amazing if the opportunity came up. They did it in the comic-book version,” he replied, according to Variety.

“Black Panther”, which was released earlier this year, was the first superhero film to be primarily led by an all-black cast and was a massive success at the global box-office.

Critics especially praised its strong women characters such as Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), Okoye (Danai Gurira), and Shuri (Letitia Wright).

“There’s a whole section of the film where T’Challa is out of the movie and you’re just following the women. That’s one of my favourite parts of the movie when I watched it, and I didn’t expect that.

“That part of the movie you feel like you’re watching something fresh and new. That part of it was exciting. We have these actresses who could easily carry their own movie. Some of them have before. We were so fortunate. I would watch a movie with them!” Coogler said.
