In today’s world of technological advancements, the question of security and safety is something that hugely concerns the property owners. Be it a personal property or a commercial property, the best way to prevent it from technically advanced modern day burglars and other sources of threat can be installing CCTV surveillance systems. CCTV subsystem consists of cameras and other digital recording equipment and devices that are used to monitor people, places, processes and the properties. It is a form of visual security which can be recorded by transferring the data to other devices like computers, mobile phones etc using IP i.e. Internet Protocol solutions.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV), also known as video surveillance, is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors. Closed circuit TV system, otherwise known as CCTV, is a type of video monitoring system that has been around since the 1940s, when it was first used by Siemens AG to observe rocket launchings in Peenemunde, Germany. CCTV systems are based on strategically-placed video cameras, which capture footage and then broadcast it to either a private network of monitors for real-time viewing, or to a video recorder for later reference.

There are some restrictions on installation, with cameras not being installed in an area where there is a “reasonable expectation of privacy”, such as bathrooms, gym locker areas and private offices. Cameras are generally accepted in hallways, parking lots, front offices where students, employees, and parents gather, gymnasiums, cafeterias, supply rooms and classrooms. The installation of cameras in classrooms might get objected by some teachers.

Recent spate of traffic offences, Bank robberies, Housing society thefts, school murder, all send wrong signals and the need for having a safe and secured system of security needs to be undergone with utmost care with eye catching methods of CCTV cameras and other related gadgets to give full security for sensitive places. Gurugram school murder widened the scope for increasing the security measures in all schools with an approved security agency covering the sensitive places.

Schools are experiencing an increased need for security surveillance, especially at the Junior High and High School levels. Many school systems have taken to using CCTV as a way monitor student flow in hallways, classroom conduct, and potential incidents in cafeterias, gymnasiums, auditoriums and parking lots. Security cameras have become a tool to curb offenses like graffiti, fights, vandalism and drug use on school grounds, as well as protect students by monitoring individuals entering and leaving the campus. Parental care and need for creating awareness are of utmost importance in a school atmosphere having children of nursery and above.

The safety of school children assumed with greater importance after a series of offences committed on children especially against girl child. School bus poses the first security aspect. Even though I-card system is established, still there is inherent risk. School surroundings should come under surveillance as the children are attracted and dragged to different bad vices by outsiders. School security should be beefed up to provide full protection to children of all ages.  After all security of the citizens is to be guaranteed by the government and other public services will have to update the security measures on war footing and not to give scope for lapse on their part. And there lies the real success.
